Leaving the doctor's, they didn't find Jing Yue where they had been sitting. "I want to use the restroom. Would you like to come along?" Liling asked and she replied," Yes."
...
"I think we've dragged it enough Jin Liwei. Our plan has worked out perfectly," said Jing Yue. "Are you sure? She might be reacting that way because she thought that I was going to die and the moment she sees that I'm fine, she will leave me," he said, his head leaning against the headrest. "That won't happen. Poor thing is crying until now. I'm sure she won't leave you because Wang Mel said as you instructed. She was blaming herself for hurting you. I think we've done enough."
"Okay then. Where's she?" he asked. "She went to the doctor's to...." "To do what? Is she hurt?" he asked. "She just has a headache probably due to excessive crying. That's all."
Jin Liwei felt bad for making her cry but the course was worth it, to win her back.
"I will make it up to her," he said.
The doctor came in then and Jing Yue said," I will inform them that you can meet visitors."
"I'm going to give you a sedative so that it appears like you are unconscious," said the doctor. "No. Why?" asked Jin Liwei. "Because your emotions might get the best of you especially in the presence of your loved ones," he explained. "I can't do that," he said. Jing Yue intervened and said," I agree with the doctor Jin Liwei. You might screw up when Li Fei gets in. Listen, she might forgive you even when she finds out but Liling will roast me alive if she finds out about this scandalous plan I swear."
Jin Liwei wasn't pleased because he wanted to hear Li Fei saying sweet words to him, as she declared her love for him and begging him not to leave her.
Seeing the doctor connecting him to false machines, Jing Yue stepped outside.
Going back to the waiting area, he was glad that he didn't find the two there. It took a short while for the two to come back. "Where are you coming from? I thought you were at the doctor's?" he asked looking at them.
"We later went to the restroom," said Liling as she sat next to her husband and entwined their fingers. "What did the doctor say?" "Luckily, she's fine. The pregnancy is in good condition," replied Liling with a longing look. "That is good," he replied before adding," I forgot to tell you, I'm so stupid. The doctor came to give us an update but you were not here." "What did he say?!" Li Fei asked, looking at him anxiously. "Relax Li Fei. Everything is fine. He said that he is out of danger now and anytime soon, we shall be able to see him." "Really?" her eyes lit up at the thought. "Yes," he replied and Liling looked at her then said," I told you he will be fine." Li Fei nodded, as she anxiously waited for the moment when she will get to see him.
Not long after, they saw the doctor coming and Li Fei stood up immediately. "Can I see him?" she asked desperately. "Yes. One person at a time and please, keep your voice low," he said and she nodded attentively.
"Can I go in now?" she asked. "Sure, go ahead," he told her and she didn't hesitate to take quick steps towards the room.
Opening the door, she stopped by the entrance to see him sleeping lifelessly on the bed, his life being supported by machines.
Tears gathered in her eyes as the thought of losing him crossed her mind. What if the worst had happened and she completely lost him? She was sure that she wouldn't have been able to take it.
Walking forward, she went to stand next to his bed where he was laying. She saw a bandage wrapped on his head that had blood stains on it. She couldn't help the hot tears that stained her cheeks as her hand reached for his cold one. Wrapping her fingers around it, she said," You're so foolish. Why did you have to kill yourself just because I was getting married to someone else?" On asking the question, she remembered that she too had attempted to commit sucide when he had told her that he had never loved her. "I guess we are both fools," she commented.
"I'm so sorry. Please forgive me It's all my fault. I wouldn't have dragged the issue as far as marrying someone else. I would also have called you yesterday but I didn't. You can punish me in any other way you want but please, don't leave me. Don't leave us," she said amidst tears. She later remembered something and said,"How foolish of me not to tell you that I'm carrying our child. In my belly is the fruit of our love. So please, wake up. There's no way I will be able to look our child in the eye knowing that I'm guilty." Raising his hand, she placed a lingering kiss at the back of his palm and she gently placed it back.
Looking at him right now, she couldn't imagine the pain he might be going through. How many stitches did he get? She couldn't even tell. She walked to the head of the bed and passed her hands through his thick hair, massaging his scalp. She then realized that she might be hurting him and she took a seat next to him, waiting for the time when he will wake up. "Wake up please," she said as she massaged his hand.
As she was still looking at him, a thought crossed her mind and her eyes widened. What if he wakes up with memory loss and he doesn't remember her at all? She had heard that such scenarios often happened to accident victims. Or worse, what if he wakes up with partial memory loss and he only remembers the time when she had caused his wife's death?
That would be the worst thing to ever happen because she couldn't stand his hatred. Of the two, she preferred the former.
