"But, what if he... the worst happens?" she whispered so that Li Fei wouldn't hear. "We just have to pray that all goes well. We cannot tell them just yet," said Jing Yue. A long while later, the doors to the ICU were opened and Li Fei snapped her eyes to look in the direction. When they saw a stretcher being pushed out, they all stood up and ran to the place.
It was him unconscious and she caught sight of the bandages that were wrapped around his head. "Doctor how's he?" Jing Yue asked. "He is stable although not yet out of danger," replied the doctor and the nurses drove him away. "Can I see him?" asked Li Fei anxiously. "Not yet. He's still under observation," he replied.
"Please," she pleaded. "I'm sorry but we can't risk it. I will be sure to inform you the moment he's alright to receive visitors. Please excuse me," said the doctor before leaving.
Liling placed her hand on her shoulder and said," FeiFei, trust in the doctors. They will save him." Walking back to the seat, Wang Mel decided to go home for a while after knowing that his boss was no longer in critical condition. Jing Yue too decided to take a stroll around the hospital.
Remaining the two of them, Li Fei looked at Liling and asked," What am I going to tell our baby if something happens to him? That I am responsible for it's father's absence?" "What do you mean? Don't tell me you're pregnant?"
She nodded her head and Liling's eyes widened in surprise. "That is so... wonderful. Is it the result of the other night you told me?" she asked and she nodded again.
"Congratulations. That gives Jin Liwei another reason to fight. He will make it," she said and Li Fei didn't know what to think.
"FeiFei, it's lunch time. Let's go get something to eat," she proposed. "I will stay here. You can go." "Come on. You've been crying and you haven't had anything to eat. Do you want to lose your baby?" she asked. She shook her head. "Let's go then. Eat something for it's sake."
When they reached the cafeteria, Liling went to order food for them and Li Fei remembered that she hadn't informed her mother yet.
"Mom," she called when she picked up. "FeiFei. How are you?" she asked. "I'm not alright. I'm in Shanghai. Jin Liwei was involved in a nasty accident." "What?!! When did that happen?" "Today very early in the morning I was told. You can't imagine how terrible I am feeling right now." "Oh God that is so bad. How is he?" "The doctor told us that he is not yet out of danger?"
"Had you informed him already? About the pregnancy?" she asked. "Not yet. I wanted to do it in person but I regret it." "Why?" "He wanted to commit sucide because I told him that I was marrying Jianyu, Mom. Had I called him yesterday night then, all this wouldn't have happened," she said as she watched Liling come with their food.
Her mother took a while to say," You shouldn't blame yourself because no one knew that this was going to happen. Do you need me there with you?" "No Liling is here with me." "I'm glad. And Jianyu, did you two talk?" "Mother, right now I'm concerned about Jin Liwei. I will see Jianyu later."
...
"I know you have no appetite but you have to eat these healthy foods," said Liling. "Thank you," she replied looking at it. "When did you find out about the pregnancy? How come you didn't tell me?" "I found out just yesterday night when I took the test. I actually called to inform you yesterday but you didn't pick up."
"Yeah I found a missed call yesterday but I was so tired to call back. Yesterday was so busy at the restaurant." She nodded in understanding. "So you decided to call off the wedding?" she asked. "Of course and I wanted to inform Jin Liwei but I didn't want to do it over the phone. You know that this is all my fault. Had I called him yesterday then he wouldn't have done it." "FeiFei, eat some food. If you want to make it up to him then waking up to the news of a healthy baby will be the best." she said and Li Fei got the chopsticks.
"And I think that after here, we should go to the doctor's and see if the baby is okay," she suggested and she nodded.
After the lunch, they went back to the waiting area and found Jing Yue back. "My love, let me go with FeiFei to the doctor's," Liling told her husband. "What happened to her?" he asked. "Well...," Liling looked at Li Fei as if asking for her permission and she nodded. "The thing is, FeiFei is pregnant," she told him. "Congratulations. But uh, if you don't mind, may I know if it's Jin Liwei's?" he asked. "Of course Jing Yue. How can you ask that?" asked Liling. "I don't mean to be offensive but Jin Liwei and you told me that she was getting married. So I thought..."
"It is okay Jing Yue, I understand. You are right to ask but I have never been with any other man in my life. It has been only him," she said and he nodded in understanding. "Well then, I'm happy for the both of you. At least some good news he will be waking up to," he said. "Thank you," she told him.
When Jing Yue saw that they had disappeared in the corridor, he stood up and left the place.
Reaching a certain door, he knocked once before getting in. "Doctor, we need to stop this," he said. "Why? Is there any problem?" he asked. "I think we have done enough. His woman is pregnant and you know how sensitive they can be. If anything happens to that child, he will not be able to forgive himself," he said. "Alright," he replied. "Where's he?" asked Jing Yue. "He is in the room."
"Okay. Don't tell him about the pregnancy though. She will be the one to do that," he said and the doctor nodded.
