Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 16: FIRST TEST OF HIS GENUINENESS

It was a perfect day for us to take a walk been that it was on Saturday, when there was no office duties for him. the paths were a rustling carpet of greenish leaves, and the air hung heavy with the smell of dry Bush cassava stem and bonfires. Jerry and I were walking in the direction of meadows and talking. we spoke at length about the last examination papers that i wrote the day we met, he being eager to hear the story of how the paper went.

the paper was all about; what is Developmental psychology?, it's important to teachers, what are the differences between operant conditioning theory and classical conditioning theory?, specify five factors that affects learning, identify areas of individual differences and show their implications, highlight the postulation of the following social psychological and cognitive stage theories. that's not all anyway.

Wait a minute Rosie, but you didn't explain to me about the social psychological theory in that classroom? oh! sorry for that but Jerry! I can tell you all about it if you want to. then go ahead Rosie! because I want to know about it. that means, you have to pay good attention to all about to say. sure I will listen carefully Rosie. Okay! then,

The social psychological was postulated by some exponents but I will discuss on the person of Karen Horney a German psychiatrists. she became convinced that pychoanalysis was one sided in its emphasis on the genetic and instinctive determinants of Human behaviour and she became interested in other factors that have significant impact in the determination of human behaviour.

So, Rosie what could be these other factors?

In dealing with the problems of patients, she strongly disagreed with Sigmund Freud notion that man is tormented by sexual fixation, rather she believes that man is constantly struggling with problems associated with career, marriage and setting realistic goals for himself.

Hornet's primary concept is that of basic anxiety. and according to her, anything that disturbs the security of the child in relation to his parents produces basic anxiety. she noted that the insecure, anxious child envelops various strategies with which to cope with the feelings big isolation and helplessness. some of these strategies according to Horney may become more or less a permanent feature in the child's personality.

Rosie, I think I like these exponents ideas. because when you take a good look at the society today, careers and marriages are the major struggling in a man.

Oh! You think that exponents is the best? what if I tell you about Harry Stack Suullivan. Go on Rosie, I'm all ears!

Ok! Jerry, Harry Stack Sullivan was an American psychiatrist that sees human personality as the relatively enduring pattern of recurrent interpersonal situation. According to him, Personality is a hypothetical entity, which cannot be isolated from interpersonal situation, and interpersonal behaviour is all that can be observed as personality. but finally, he contended that personality is not determined at an early age and that it may change at any time as a new interpersonal relation develop. he stressed that individuals are not malleable and that personality is sharpen through definite stages of development that includes infancy, childhood, adoptand adulthood. he also believes that social determinants of personality are very crucial and that they affect personality development through the life span of the individual. he concluded that no one particular stages of human development should be given presence to the detriment of the others .

wao...! Rosie that's a nice conclusion. but all the same, I am looking forward for your results to be out.

As we continue to saunter, Jerry noticed that I had the habit of picking up twigs that I would play with for some minutes before sending them twirling away into the bushes. I like the way he carried himself... so at ease in his body. it was obvious that he was clever and highly skillful and that's the more reason why his uncle placed him in his faculty to handle an important aspects of the school and yet, in his manner, he was humble, never ones flaunting his knowledge in the way that some academy staffs and non academy staff carries themselves like they are God.

"I have a small confession for you, Jerry but a small confession" as I laughed tapping him playfully on his shoulders when he stopped dead in the tracks. "I just wanted to say ....well, do you remember when you said that "what do i want to eat" in that examination hall? I felt a bit embarrassed but the truth was that, I was really famished.

But why so embarrassed? he asked

I felt embarrassed because, I don't want to be seen weak! it's okay Rosie, that's past already and now that I'm yours, you won't go hungry again. Let's go back home now, so we can get a good rest. shall we as he stretches forth his right hand to held mine.

**

After refreshing our body with warm bath, it came with a surprise when we heard a knock at the door

*rat-a-tata!*

*rat-a-tata!*

Jerry quickly dressed up as he have too to open the door. I heard the voice of some policemen saying "we want to check your house". where's Your ID as Jerry questioned them. they flipped up their ID and Jerry went through it to let them in.

instantly, I started shivering immediately, Jerry noticed my body movements and hugged me to be firm as he assured me that everything will be fine.

the policemen took the apple system and search through it but to their surprised, it was all my examination paper work they could see. the also search the other system and found out his ICT work for the school. they went ahead in search of wardrobe, kitchen, bathroom, dinning table and cell phone.

Jerry! I called shivering ..." what are they searching for"? so he whispered to my ears they thought that I'm a fraudster that is into "Yahoo"! I guessed someone might have given him wrong information about me. but don't worry Rosie! and besides, "a clear conscience fears no accusations" so let them search to their satisfaction.

After one hour, thirty minutes they started questioning him.

what do you do for living sir!?

I am into ICT and non academy staff of the school and this is my ID as Jerry flipped his identity card in front of them.

How come you have all these?

wao.... I am a web developer and a programmer as well.

oooooooh!

we are very sorry for the disturbance and one of these days, we would like to learn this programming from you. Please accept our apology. as the police men plead for forgiveness.

madam..... please don't be offended ok! please! as he approached me but Jerry responded to them as he saw them off.
