Chereads / Wrong Mate / Chapter 2 - Awkward Meeting

Chapter 2 - Awkward Meeting

God, where do I put these things?

Sally's a rich brat I tell you guys, I do accompany that girl through all her shopping sprees, though I escaped on some, she never missed to buy me things. Things that she thinks I needed most like flashy expensive short dresses. Sparkly clothes and tight ones. She might be a freak when it comes to painting her rooms and her things but she got a nice sense of a combination of colour and pattern when it comes to others wardrobe.

Right now, she bought me a pair of high heeled shoes. Burgundy. Many would think that I'm leeching off Sally but that's not the case. Everyone knows it. She's like a walking Santa giving gifts and things to anyone she met and since I'm the one who is close to her then I mostly received all the shower of her kindness. I've tried declining her gift once and that ended with me following her around for a week just to apologize. And I tell you, a whole week of her ignoring me then doing all her theatrics, please include the sprawling on the floor like a kid, is very traumatic. I don't want a repeat of it. So even if I can afford to buy things for myself expensive or not I had to accept the gifts with a smile.

Deciding to just place the shoes beside my closet I stood up and fixed my room. It needs a little fixing since I was unable to tidy my bed when Sally barged inside my room and dragged me out just to accompany her to shop.

After I fixed my bed and picking some of the trash around my room I went down to check the packhouse. It's the weekend and the place is naturally quiet because everyone is out. Out on dates, doing patrol rounds and training. I sauntered across the living room and rounded the corner leading towards the pack's kitchen. I made myself some coffee and showed my way out of the packhouse. I ended sitting on the small stairs facing the backyard of the house.

Our packhouse is quite huge. Here in the backyard, I can see the thick vegetation of tall pine trees, the left side of the vegetation shows some fruit-bearing trees. I can also see the healthy bushes and vines of grapes and berries crawling on the ground. Herbal plants coloured the ground's surface everywhere. A group of omega was assigned to make a trip down the woods for fruit picking every day. I once joined them and it was fun, just like the old times. Amalia did herbal picking too.

If you guys are going to ask me where the training area of the pack is, it's located deep in the woods. Wood is a good place to build a training ground you know. We got vast meadows too where everyone can do their daily runs. Werewolves need that a lot. The pack infirmary is located within the heart of the town where werewolves and humans work together, though we got a mini one inside the packhouse and Amalia is handling it. She's a really good healer. Speaking of her I saw her emerged from the side of the house, she is about to walk into the woods. Maybe one of the pack members got injured again.

"Someone got injured again?" I mind linked her. She stopped and looked in my direction. She waved and continue her steps. "I see you're enjoying the weekend peacefully. I envy you right now. I got hormonal teens to deal with, two of them." I chuckled. Well, that can't be helped. A healer's always on call even on weekends. "I know right. Good luck with the hormonal teens." I heard her laughed back and disappeared into the trees. Mindlinking someone is not that easy. You can link someone if they're open but they will always want their privacies so it's not common.

Slowly sipping my coffee, I roamed my eyes around the huge territory again. I'm indeed lucky to have free time every weekend. It is my rest day and I only open Solace half of the day on Sundays so I'm good. I'm just peacefully happy that Sally's manning the mart right now. Originally, its Alvin's sched but since she got off early the past weeks then she grudgingly said yes as a replacement when Alvin needed to take a day off because he was feeling under the weather. Yes, werewolves got sick too but we heal faster. Usually the sickness was not life-threatening too. One of the perks of being a werewolf.

I smiled sipping the remaining coffee in my mug. I would love to enjoy this kind of peacefulness with someone. I like being left alone a lot and having a lot of time to just think, explore the peace, but this kind of peace I would probably want to share with someone.

My mate.

Thinking about him makes me giddy but then a splash of cold battering truth whacked my face every time I remember what happened in that car. Him kissing another man.

Damn.

I cursed feeling the curling pain settled in my pumping muscle. Where could he be right now? I don't know but what well happened if my mate did swing the other way? A mating bond's hard to escape and as far as I know, I'm the only one having this kind of situation. Well, around this area and the other packs.

Sure, we got those wonderful people swinging the other way but all the cases rest on humans. They are well-acknowledged in the pack. What's happening to me right now is a different story at all.

I don't mind having a gay mate. I don't care about their inborn physical features but their feelings. Nothing's impossible when it comes to it. One can be born a man and feel wrong about it but the feeling, emotions will never be wrong. You can love anyone you want. You can befriend and appreciate anyone you want because it's all feelings and emotions.

My mate can love a man like him but that doesn't mean I can't change his heart or he can't love a woman. The hypothalamus does it all. Feelings. Emotions. That will be my ace and the bonus is the mate bond.

I sighed in sadness. How am I going to be with my mate when he's with someone else? My conscience, my morality can't take the thought of me barreling my way between two persons probably loving each other. It is just so wrong.

"What am I going to do?" I whispered. The wolf inside my head is also howling in sadness. I blocked my mind from all the other members of the pack and wallowed in my thoughts.

"Excuse me?" jolts, the mug I'm holding fly into the air and crashed into a wall. It did not crash though but instead fell on the wooden stairs in a thud. I whirled around and covered my mouth, gasping. Holy molly, blame my survival instinct for reacting. You don't startle anyone deep in their thoughts. It can be deadly I tell you.

Instead of a hard cemented wall, my eyes met a wall of the chest instead, probably where the mug collided. A smell of lavender and something minty attacked my nose. My eyes shot upwards, meeting the owner of the hard chest. My eyes widened, sockets almost falling.

"W-What are you doing here?" I stuttered my instinct kicking in. My mate. He's my mate I can sense it. My eyes feasted on his perfect face and ended meeting his bottle green eyes, a total contrast to his slightly wavy black hair. Enchanting.

I need to touch him. That's the only way he will recognize me. That is if he's a wolf. In some cases of the werewolf-human mate, the bond needs to spend a lot of time with their significant one for the human to recognize the bond. It will be strengthened onwards. For werewolves, it's just strong that they'll have the urge to mark their mate right away but that still depends on the individual.

Marking is biting the neck of the female. After that bite, smooth scarring will appear on the surface of the bite mark, like a tattoo. In case if one of the mated pair dies, the scarring would disappear. Signalling the death of the bond.

I reached my hand out to grasp his hand but then again my confusion stopped me.

"I'm kind of lost. Are you okay?" He asked in that soft lulling voice. My insides flared in excitement but I fixed my eyes on his chest. I elicited a gasp, the flash of flying mug surfaced again, knowing I had probably hurt my mate. My wolf howled in sorrow.

"Oh my goodness. I've hit you with the mug. I-I'm so sorry." I'm not the crying type of person but at that moment tears welled in my eyes. The questions he asked went unanswered.

"No, I'm sorry. Oh god, did I startled you that much?" He worriedly reached for me, my shoulder to be exact. It was a second too late for me to move out of the way. Not that I don't want him to find out but there's this nagging thought in me that says I'll be in one of those turning point if my life. So, moving out of the way would be a cool option. But, here we are, his hand sat on my left shoulder.

The sudden zapped of electricity travelled throughout my body and fireworks of tingles shook my insides. My eyes connected to his at the same time he did. I saw how his pretty mouth gaped in shock, pulling his hand away from me. Probably, feeling the zapping and tingles.

"W-What the hell happened?" he looked at his hand and me. Back and forth. He looks so adorable and confused with his brows knitted together.

"I-I.." I started but cursed myself for stuttering.

"O-Oh my god. This can't be." My mates voice quivered and stared at me unbelieving. Realization kicking in.

"Atlas? You're here, I was looking for you everywhere." said that voice.

My eyes glanced at the side of the house. My jaw unhinged. Shit. How did I not put two and two together? I was fairly known good at deducing things.

The pain settling in my heart resonated when I saw how Luke placed a kiss on my mate's cheek and the former leaned to it. Yes, Luke. The man I keep on seeing around the territory. The man I'm drawn to because he gives off a little of my mates presence. It is clinging unto him, probably the reason I'm comfortable with him the times we've met.

I smiled sadly. I didn't know this mate bond could hurt this much. Fuck my posh life.

"Mavis? You again. I keep on seeing you around. You're not stalking me, are you?" He jested. My mate's frown met my eye. My heart thudded I can sense the warning his giving off.

"I-I... No. I'm a pack member. I-I live here along with the rest." I forced a smile.

"So you're a werewolf? Cool. You see, being human I can't sense anything unlike you werewolves does." He chuckled at that and I would have laughed with him too if the situation is different. He's human.

"So that means you will attend the Alpha's birthday too?" Goodness, I forgot to tell you guys that the Alpha's birthday's coming around the corner. A month apart from Sally's wedding.

"Everyone's expected to attend," I muttered no longer looking at my mate but Luke. I can feel my mates gaze drilling a hole on my face.

"Cool, we will see you there then. The Alpha invited Atlas. He's a werewolf-like you and I know you know that. He's an alpha male." He proudly told me. So he's an alpha male? I looked at him under my lids. Of course he is. He got this small smile on his lips while looking at Luke. My pain doubled.

"Oh damn I forgot to introduce him it may look weird to you but he's my boyfriend Atlas. Atlas meets Mavis. She was the one who points where the gift shops were located." And the fucking pain tripled. My shoulders tensed from hearing him claimed my mate. Contrary to the public's popular belief, we werewolves, don't attack anyone we recognized as a threat. We are reasonable enough to go through discussions first unless that person hurt you or someone close to you. So my tense shoulders don't mean I'm going to attack Luke. It is more like I'm bracing myself for more jabs at my thudding muscle. Atlas got wary anyway.

"Nice meeting you guys but I need to go. It's almost time for my shift." I clapped in my mind after delivering those words without stuttering at all. My nonexistent shift can be remedied, I just need to get out of here and fast. "I'm so sorry for accidentally hitting you with the mug too." A small smile was plastered on my lips fleetingly looking at my mate.

"What? What happened? Did you creep on someone again?" he turned his attention towards Atlas. The name of my mate. Suited him. I noticed how my mate bit his lower lip and shrugged. I didn't even notice that I copied his move.

Luke asked Atlas again but I didn't wait for them to finished and instead walked stealthily away from the couple.

I need to be away from the two. They're a couple and me being the mate, I'm the wrecker but I'm never going to be one. I will never be one. This time instead of entering the same door I walked out, I rounded the side of the house and make my way towards the main door of the packhouse. I can feel my mates stare but I dare not look back.

I entered my room and grabbed my car keys and purse. Walking fast, I crossed the living room and went straight to the door rubbing my aching chest.

I backed my car out of the driveway. Stepping on the gas, the wheel screeched as I manoeuvred the car away from the packhouse.

My ball of wolf chanting in my mind to turn back and talk to mate but I resisted. I don't wanna go back and gazed at the couple loving themselves. The important thing is he already know I'm his mate and it will be his decision thereon. Reject or Accept.

As I swiftly drove by the long array of trees on the side of the road, a realization embedded deep in my mind.

I'm mated to a Gay.

--

"Mavvy!!" I covered my ears from Sally's earsplitting scream. She's running giddily towards me. I frowned at her. I'm wallowing in my thoughts right now and her screaming like a banshee snapped me back to reality.

"Oh goodness gracious, stop doing that," I complained pushing her face away from my form. She's not only a brat, she's clingy too, as in literally. She's clinging on my arm right now. I can feel a headache coming.

"Stop doing what?" Her blue eyes fluttered at me and I glared at her. She beamed and I narrowed my eyes at her. "You're making my brain bleed with that scream and I'm like having a hangover headache right now because of it." I sternly said with my face stoic. She just grinned at me like a Cheshire cat.

"Thank you for the compliment Mavvy," she said tightening her hold on my arm. Her long nails digging into my skin. Goodness this girl, she's going to play mean huh?

"Get off me you bat." I patted her hands away from me but she held on as a koala should. "Ouch, you witch!" I added when she smirked digging her nails a bit more. The amusement proudly dancing in her eyes.

"You better be thankful I did not grow my nails back. Ugly Duck!" and that made her gasp and loosened her hold.

"A what?!" she screeched again. My eardrums tingled. I pulled my arm away from her clutches. She's a witch I tell you, she won't let go.

"Just where the hell is your mate? Why did he leave you unattended?" I said pulling her strawberry blonde hair now. She hissed in alarm.

"Not my hair!" she jumped away from me glaring daggers at my face. I gave her an innocent look. She hated it when someone messes with her hair. "You witch." she jumped at me again. Now hugging me full on.

"I miss you Mavvy!" she squealed and I smiled. Me and Sally we are like the best of all friends but then we resort to this kind of insults and playful attacks like everyone did.

"You just saw me an hour ago, drama queen." I hugged her back. With all my depressing thoughts the last few days, I need a hug right now. I did not dare tell anyone my problem, even the encounter, knowing that the wedding's weeks from now. It's been days since I've met and encountered my mate with his boyfriend. I've been a mess but I don't want to ruin their wedding. Ever.

"Alright enough cheating you traitors," said Chris out of the blue. He just arrived and grabbed Sally away from me. A soft smile gracing his lips.

"No! Mavvy! Help my poor soul oh save me from this wicked spawn of a devil!" Sally dramatically fell on Chris's arms. I cringed, she might be a gorgeous girl but she got no future in acting.

"Oh good. Guard take her away." I snickered same time Chris laughed his heart out. Sally's eyes turned to slits as she stomped on the floor like a three-year-old.

"You guys are no fun! Watch me become an award-winning actress someday." She accusingly points her finger at me and dug her finger on Chris's chest repeatedly the next.

"Miss you too guys." I smiled at them. This one is genuine.

"Alright, no theatrics from you two. You make me wanna puke." Chris intervened and lifted Sally on his shoulders. I heard her squealed and I chortled when Sally playfully smacked the ass of her mate. Since she got a really strong hand, Chris almost faltered and dropped her making her squeal in alarm.

Graciousness, I love those two.

Shaking my head, I continued my steps towards Solace before Sally stopped me. It's Sunday and I'm in charge of opening it for half a day. Hopefully, I hope it's a slow day since she's lazy at the moment and sleepy too.

Ah. Life.
