Chapter 9 - Pointy Ears

Trix groaned as she landed with a thud. She looked around and saw darkness.

"Tristan," she called feeling around for him.

"Tristan, where are you," she asked beginning to panic.

Her hands patted the cold hard ground furiously. Suddenly they touched something hard, she immediately pulled her hands back and froze. She hesitantly reached forward again.

It was slippery like glass but warm. Trix continued to feel the odd object when suddenly her hands touched fur. She stopped once more and felt her heart go still as warm air fanned over her face. It had a foul scent, like smoke.

Trix pressed on further and nearly died when giant reptilian eyes suddenly appeared out of the dark. They glowed red and stared directly at her. Time seemed to slow as all Trix could hear was her frantically beating heart, pounding in her ears. She released a forced breath softly and slowly lifted her hands, earning another cloud of warm smoky air in her face.

She slowly began to back away, breathing as calmly as she could. Tears pooled in her eyes and her chest burned. She was having a hard time breathing calmly when she was scared out of her mind. Her feet suddenly stepped on something hard.

The eyes rose as if the beast was getting up, and suddenly a third eye appeared also.

Trix bit her lip and closed her eyes momentarily.

She didn't want to die, especially not in a different world. She didn't want to die without apologizing to her best friend. She wanted to patch things up with her parents. She wanted to go, knowing that the people who were closes to her didn't suffer because she was a horrible human being.

She needed the chance to apologize to everyone.

Trix gulped as she blindly stepped over the beast's tail. One foot was safely over. She quickly, too quickly brought over her other foot, stepping heavily on something brittle that broke instantly. A loud snap went through the air.

A loud roar suddenly sent Trix stumbling back into bars with heap of bones beneath her feet. She cried out tears pouring down her face.

"Enough," a loud voice boomed.

Suddenly the darkness faded and Trix opened her eyes to see a confused Tristan staring back at her.

A devious chuckle brought their eyes to a pointy ear, golden skin, silver eyed man. He had long black hair that caused the tip of his ears to peek out weirdly. Another man appeared with similar features. He had shorter hair with a cropped beard. He slapped the obviously younger guy over the head.

"The Queen said not to harm them," he said sternly.

"But she's a-," the younger man was cut off by another slap.

"Watch your mouth," he said calmly. The man clasped his hand, letting them disappear underneath the sleeves of his floor length robe.

"Where are we," Tristan asked, straightening his back, but he had a slight limp and his shoulder looked weird.

"You are in the kingdom of Faesia, also known as the Sapphire kingdom," the older man replied.

Suddenly Trix understood the men's matching blue attire.

"My name is Lord Kys, one of our Queen's most trusted advisors and this is Symon," he introduced.

"Tristan," Tristan replied dryly.

The pointy eared guys suddenly glanced at Trix, waiting for her to introduce herself. Her mind was pondering the faint recurring dream in her mind. Did she remember seeing pointy ears? And if she did, how and why?

"Our Queen wishes to speak to you in the throne room," Lord Kys said.

Symon turned to look at him with an angry expression on his face.

"They are prisoners. They do not deserve to be in the presence of the Queen," he interjected, squaring his shoulders and staring defiantly at the older man.

Lord Kys regarded him with a side glance. In Trix's mind, he looked as if he wanted to roll his eyes.

"Her wish is OUR command," he said, emphasis on the 'our'.

"Bu-," Symon was silenced by the sudden scraping sound of the metal bars sliding apart.

"Please follow me," Lord Kys said with a slight smile, gripping Symon by the ears and pulling him out of the room.

Tristan glanced worriedly at Trix. She was still in shock. Frozen in her position against the far side of the cage. She seemed deep in thought, fine lines visible on her forehead.

"After you," Tristan's deep voice bounced off the empty walls. Trix flinched and stared at him.

She observed his stricking features, even though he was smeared in dirt. She found herself feeling the butterflies swimming around in her stomach. For a second she thought that she hated him. He was irritable and always bossing her around but he seemed to have a nice side.

"If your done checking me out, I'd like to meet this Queen today. We are running out of time," Tristan retorted walking out of the cell.

Trix bit her tongue and stomped off behind them.

"At least I'm not afraid of the dark," she bit back, as they walked out of the room. As she walked through the door, she assumed that he hadn't heard her but discarded that thought when a iron dagger pierced her head. She smiled sardonically at him as they followed a long narrow hallway to a door.

Tristan opened the door and slipped through slamming the door in Trix's face.

"Such a gentleman," she said sarcastically.

She was about to open the door when she suddenly felt a warm buzzing on her thigh. She gingerly reached down to touch it but was interrupted by Tristan opening the door.

"What are waiting for," he asked raising his eyebrows.

Trix sighed and pushed pass him. Her breathe hitched at the beautiful golden interior of the hallway she just walked into. Every few feet there were stained windows of nature. Though there was something different about it. Trix immediately realized what it was when one of the butterflies' wings suddenly fluttered. A smiled graced Trix's lips.

Tristan stared at her mesmerized. Why did he have such strong feelings for this girl? He literally just met her, yet here he was feeling a weight lift from his chest just from her smile.

"Hurry along," Lord Kys called from around the corner.

Trix and Tristan hurried to catch up with him. They soon arrived at two golden double doors with silver handles and intricate markings. Lord Kys opened them. Symon seemed to have disappeared. There was moore gold and silver inside. Lord Kys ushered the pair inside. They hesitantly entered.

Trix gasped at the fairytale type interior. She smiled and shook her head. She was in a fairytale.

"I've been waiting for a long while," a sultry voice floated towards Trix's ear, demanding her attention immediately.

She gasped at the sight in front of her.

"Oh hell no!"
