Chapter 2 - Volume 1 – Chapter 1 – A little beyond what I expected …

I was flooded with a sea of memories that did not belong to me.

I never imagined that, in a sense, I could experience another person's life in such detail.

I was inside a large room, it looked like that of a nobleman, while I was in a corner of it I heard a deafening noise, the screams of a newborn.

Within the room, there was a silver-haired woman of medium height with an angelic face and blue eyes.

She was lying on the bed surrounded by her servants after she gave birth she cried out:<< Dear! Oh dear, look! A male child !!. Finally, after two girls I gave you at the end a son! >>

I saw a man running as fast as he could, with a moustache and a monocle, he was very young (about 26 years old). He swooped into the room, made space between the servants and took that woman's hand (I assumed she was his wife):<< Oh dear Abigail, you can't imagine how happy I am. How are you instead? >> he held the woman's hand for a few seconds.

Then he turned to a servant who was holding the new creature in her hand, she gently handed it to him.

<< Here you have sire, as said by your wife, it's a male >>

The man took the crying baby, as soon as he held it, he stopped crying. Then he said: << Good, good boy good >>

then he looked at the woman:<< Abigail, what would you like to call him? >>

Abigail replied: << He is our first son, I thought he must have a glorious name, what do you think about Attila? >>

<< Oh, in honour of the great leader of the Huns ... I like it! >>

That child was me ...

I was there, motionless as if I were watching a video that conveyed the life in the first person, of another human.

While I was witnessing this happy scene, two little girls appeared (both with silver hair) who looked, with tears of happiness, at their smiling parents.

After a few seconds, they ran to their mother, climbing onto her bed and hugging her.

An almost heavenly scene, I said to myself: << Wow, I could never think that this scene could give me so much warmness ... >>

All of a sudden a voiceover, which surely belonged to Nadia, said: << Don't worry, it'll be over soon ... >>.

The happy family, before me, disappeared ...

I started to hear cries of rage: << You, damned noble bastards, you must all die !! >>

and another voice: << Yes, that's right, be ashamed of yourself filthy pigs !! >>

I was in the arms of my mother who ran with my sisters and my father.

It was clear that they were running away, but from who?

I turned around, I saw some peasants with pitchforks that were chasing them, it was from the pursuers that came to the cries of anger I had heard.

My parents ran as fast as they could, but there was nothing they could do, other people with pitchforks spat in front of them

They were surrounded.

It was then that my parents stopped and knelt in front of them, begging them: << Please, we don't care about us as long as you spare our children! They didn't do anything to you !! >>

The one who seemed to be the leader of the revolt came forward: << Hahaha you noble shit, you continue to tax us, even more, to reduce us to hunger and now you want our pity?! You think you are so full of yourself, from the top of your miserable pedestal of wealth, but maybe you forget that even our children die because we can't feed them !!.

Do you know why ??!! Of course, you don't know, some of our children are dying because we have been idiots until now, and to pay you we have also started giving up on feeding them !! Shame on you dirty nobles !! >>

The crowd: << You are right, be ashamed we will kill you all !! >>

The one who appears to be my father replied: << But how is it possible, we are the only ones not to demand so many taxes in the whole empire! >>

In response: << Shut up noble, don't you understand your situation??! Do not make excuses to save your skin! >>

In fact, in these times, it happened that if the noble exaggerated the taxes then the peasants could rebel in this way. A lot of nobles perished like this. Only after a long time, as the nobility became more and more obsolete, will these kinds of riots lead to city-states.

My mother Abigail lowered her head even more: << I understand that you are angry but I beg you with all my heart, take my and my husband's lives, but leave our children in peace! >>

The crowd laughed, yet a humble woman made her way and walked towards my family without saying anything, she moved her arms in such a way as to ask for the child (aka me).

My mother looked at the woman in front of her for a few seconds, then nodded: << Thanks, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! >>

She handed me over to this woman who walked away with me in her arms.

Two other women came forward and took a sister each. Here my mother too thanked the other women. Only they have dared to take this responsibility.

Once back in the ranks, the peasants got closer and closer to my parents.

Even as their lives were about to end, the expressions on their faces did not convey anguish or fear but relief. They seemed relieved that at least their children were spared.

They sank their forks into their bodies as if there was no tomorrow, almost shredding them (making them become like when you prick food with a fork until it is covered with holes), running their scarlet blood across the floor.

That was how my parents died.

While I looked at them, the newborn and my sisters were crying in the arms of the women.

I changed places, saw the mansion (my house) burn and the peasants cheerfully chanted about their deeds, as if killing people was a heroic feat for them. Even though I was a shadow, a ghost that no one could see or hear, at that moment I began to cry. How painful it can be to see this tragedy up close.

I don't know how but even though everything I saw was fake, it still hurts my heart.

After all this, another voice came strongly all of a sudden:<< Listen, bastard, just because my wife has decided to keep you, make sure you do not go over your head! >>

A bald man, with a sturdy build bordering on obesity and drunk, was beating a little boy. He had closed like a hedgehog to protect itself from the man's violent blows. While the other people in the room were silently watching with a blank stare, as if it were a habit, no one dared to breathe ...

That kid was me, but more grown-up (about 14 years old). Eventually, the old man finished kicking and went to lie down on the bed in another room. When the boy recovered, he went out the door and ran up a hill from which the whole village could be seen.

From here on, my time to see everything from another perspective person ended.

Ouch, what a pain, I thought. But wait ... do I feel pain? I realized that now I was no longer a shadow, but that I was the boy himself.

I sat down and started thinking about everything, trying to rearrange my ideas: I am the son of a noble family, but due to a popular uprising, my parents were killed. Nevertheless, my sisters and I were spared. Now I live in a family, which to vent some sort of frustration, takes it out on me that I am just a kid, also strengthened by the fact that I was the son of nobles.

Now I have to understand things: where am I? What year are we in? What can I do?

Just after I finished thinking: << Welcome Attila, it's still me Nadia - >>

It was that damned artificial intelligence: << - now please be quiet, listen and receive the information I am about to provide >>

After a few seconds it continued: << As already said, theoretically I should assist you during the adventure, but given the chosen difficulty, I will not be available to help you. Now I will give you the minimum information you need to continue. We are in the Holy Roman Empire, Duchy of Lausitz, in Jüterbog (in the main city) on July 16, 1244. At this difficulty, the game will only tell you the date and time of the game and the same for real life. You can only quit the game once every 6 hours or when the headset's sensors recognize that you need to go to the bathroom urgently. Having said that good luck >>

After he finished talking, I tried to answer: << Okay, thanks but it's not enough I need more information --- >>

<< Nadia has finished interacting with Attila, we will meet again later >>

Again, she's gone again in such a way ... what a pain in the ass is Nadia.

Well, let's get started!

(This was how my second life in medieval style officially began).
