Doctor Bundt needed Rein's help more than Rein needed the pills made by the old man.
It was obvious that one had the upper hand over the other.
However, Reina wasn't forcing him to agree.
If he thought that these conditions were too much for him to bear then he was free to look for another test subject.
Though she had to admit that she was being a tad bit too demanding with her conditions because she was well aware of his desire to have Rein Melk as his test subject.
After he had spoken with such admiration for the purity of Rein's blood, she was sure that in his eyes, no one else would be the perfect fit for this task.
Also, she might have demanded a lifetime supply of the pills but she herself did not know how long she would be staying in this Palace.
She only wanted to ensure that she had a steady supply during the time that she stayed here and served the King.
Once she found a way to leave this Palace, he would no longer have to provide her with his pills.
Therefore, she did not mind being a little bold with her demands as she had not asked for anything too excessive and only for what was within that old man's power.
Meanwhile, Doctor Bundt was lost in contemplation regarding what needed to be done when he heard a voice in his head.
'Accept it.'
Only two words were uttered but the old physician froze upon recognizing who that voice belonged to.
His eyes shifted for a split second onto the door a short distance away but his actions were so quick and subtle that Reina had failed to notice them.
"I accept." Doctor Bundt announced his answer soon after the voice came to an end.
However, Reina was oblivious to the prompt that the old man had received and treated it as him coming to a conclusion after giving it some thought.
She did not doubt that anything was amiss as the old man had done nothing worthy of her suspicions.
Upon hearing his answer, a spark of joy appeared in her eyes which managed to make the old man let out a soft chuckle.
'I finally have my perfect test subject!' He celebrated in his mind while thinking of how he would progress from here.
However, just when the old man thought that Rein's conditions had come to an end and they could start their drug trial, he was proven wrong.
Reina had gotten him to agree with three of her conditions thus without further ado, she hopped to the final one.
"So how much will I be paid for doing this?" She inquired with an innocent yet slightly eager look on her face.
The old man blinked his eyes in utter confusion as to what he was hearing right now.
"Didn't we just agree that you will get pills for a lifetime?" He questioned, as, in his mind, this was the payment for the trial he would soon be participating in.
These questioning words caused Reina to tilt her head and look at him as though he was the weird one in this scenario.
Equal parts amused and infuriated, Doctor Bundt rubbed his forehead which was beginning to ache just as much as his injured nose.
"Why do I have to pay you twice?" He inquired about the absurdity of the young man's latest demand.
Reina chuckled before standing upright and asked him another question instead of answering him.
"How did you pay the people you tested your drugs on before me?" She posed the question that was on her mind.
In the next second, she watched as the old man froze as he tried to look through his memories to find a suitable answer.
With similar cases in the past, he had tested his creations on a few knights and other servants in this Palace.
However, they were all eager to be a part of his research as he was known to create invaluable medicines.
Just being the test subject and reaping the benefits of the medicine they could not possess otherwise was payment enough for them.
"They would call themselves lucky to be my test subjects and that was about it." He ended his short recollection of a few scenarios in the past.
Reina's eyes gazed at him with a little incredulity before she nodded.
"I see…" She muttered in a bland tone, not amused or impressed with what she had heard.
When she was still on Earth, no matter what the trial was or who it was conducted by, the test subjects were always paid a hefty sum to reward their participation.
'Some got paid thousands of dollars just for eating sugar pills!' She recalled that in drug trials, some were given placebos yet were paid equal amounts as the rest.
Thus while looking at the stingy man who did no such thing with his test subjects in the past, Reina could not help but shake her head in dissatisfaction.
"Regardless of whether your trial is a success or a failure, your test subject who has given their body to help you observe the efficacy of your drug should be compensated." She declared in a firm and righteous tone.
Finding that the old man was still a little confused, Reina sighed as her voice became gentle.
"The lifetime supply is supposed to be a good-natured bonus to celebrate the success of your drug." She explained the difference between the two.
Since Doctor Bundt had announced with much confidence that there was no way his drug could fail, she decided to specify what her bonus for this success would be well in advance.
"While the other is the payment for utilizing my services regardless of whether your drug is a success or not." She disclosed her reasoning with a smile.
"Those people in the past did not wish to be paid but I do." She added with a shrug, unbothered and reluctant to follow the same path as the ones before her.
'I do not know when I will leave so I better save up some money before I go.' She decided and gave herself a mental thumbs up for coming up with this brilliant idea to earn some extra money.
"Do you lack money?" The old physician inquired after taking a look at the joy that had bubbled up on the younger man's face.
At the mention of 'money', a memory was triggered in Reina's mind which caused her to be dazed just for a second.
Snapping out of it once the memory flashed across her mind, she looked right into the other man's eyes as she replied.
"Who dislikes money?" She retorted and saw the old man choke at this blunt answer.
'This lad has a sharp tongue.' Doctor Bundt realized after analyzing the conversation they had so far.
Understanding Rein's theory about payment and bonus, he finally gave a nod in acceptance.
The matter about the bonus had already been approved due to someone's secretive interference and now, Doctor Bundt agreed with the other matter about the payment.
Thus, seeing that all four of her conditions had been accepted, Reina rejoiced in her heart for gaining victory in this non-negotiable business deal she had made with the old man.
