Chereads / Tricking The Vampire King / Chapter 30 - Curiosity About Rein's Origins

Chapter 30 - Curiosity About Rein's Origins

Reina stared at the door connecting the two rooms for a while longer and only looked away after making sure of something.

'They entered the office room.' She surmised as she was already aware of how different doors sounded when they were opened and shut.

This only made her feel pity for Rein Melk who had stored this unnecessary information in her mind, making Reina feel pathetic for possessing it right now.

The poor cross-dressing chamberlain was too devoted to the King that she would wait with bated breath for the moment he would call upon her to serve him.

Rein spent time alone in her room and waited for when the door to the King's chamber would open, informing her of his arrival so that she might do her best to make him comfortable due to her efforts.

This memory that had triggered, brought up mixed feelings in Reina's heart.

She felt pity for her predecessor who took pride in recognizing the minor difference in the sounds each door made but at the same time, that pathetic information had come in handy to her now.

Therefore, she decided to no longer mope about obtaining this memory and make the best of it.

Confirming that the King was in his private office on the other side of his bedroom, Reina turned her attention to the old man who had not yet left her room.

Doctor Bundt was just about to leave when he saw the young vampire staring at him with the same curious look in his eyes as before.

However, more than the curiosity he could discern, the old physician was more interested in the color of those eyes.

'Truly fascinating!' He exclaimed inwardly while admiring the pale eyes of this chamberlain.

It was common for vampires to possess eyes of various colors when compared to humans.

However, he had never met someone with the vampire bloodline who possessed such pale eyes.

Vampires of the same family inherited the same colored eyes which would be passed down through generations.

Since it was difficult for their bloodline to procreate, vampires were fewer in number but possessed greater powers which gave them the title of higher beings compared to every other race that lived in this world.

Having lived for so many hundreds of years, Doctor Bundt was proud of meeting many people from different races and even different families of vampires.

However, never once had he seen someone who had the eye color that this chamberlain possessed.

While he had seen many with the color blue for their eyes, not one had the same cool icy toned eyes that Rein acquired.

This made him curious to know who he was and which family he belonged to.

'Melk… Melk…' He repeated the last name of the young man, wondering if he had heard of any family with the same name.

However, he had come up with a blank as his memory held no one with the surname 'Melk'.

Thus, the physician's curiosity to know about Rein's origins remained intact.

Glancing at the man before him, Doctor Bundt was observing his face closely to recall any other information he had about him.

He had never been called to attend to anyone other than the King as he was King Zander's personal physician and the few times that he had visited their Monarch, this young man was not around.

It was the old butler who was present at those times, therefore, Doctor Bundt had seen this man named Rein Melk for the very first time yesterday.

He knew who Rein was and had even heard about the ill-treatment he received from the other residents of this Palace through his trusted sources, the gossiping maids.

However, he had never gotten the opportunity to meet him as he lived in a separated enclave within the Palace premises where he spent most of his time experimenting and researching on various matters that caught his eye.

The King rarely called upon him so he was left to his own devices a majority of the time and utilized his free time to create new medicines that could help their vampire race.

Now that he had gotten the chance to interact with the young lad, Doctor Bundt soon realized that there was so much that the others did not know about him.

'Where is he mousy and scared enough to not even open his mouth?' He scoffed as he had witnessed how this young man had shot his mouth off at Treegan Molt, unafraid of offending the King's other aide.

Rein had even conversed so well with him for hours now, never displaying any signs of being timid and shy.

Therefore, Doctor Bundt was seeing him in a new light after their encounter and did not hold the same impression of him as the others did.

'The King saw something in him to keep him by his side.' He trusted his King's judgment and did not hold any prejudices against this recovering patient of his.

Reina had no clue about the budding positive impression she had created in Doctor Bundt's mind regarding Rein Melk.

Neither did she know that this inquisitive old man was curious to know about her family background and her origins.

If she had known then she would be both appalled and intrigued as she needed to keep her information secret but at the same time, she also wished to know who Rein truly was.

Reina still had no memory of who Rein Melk was or where she was from or what she did before she met King Zander and became his chamberlain.

The gaps in her memory were yet to be filled but she needed to take that journey to gain knowledge by her lonesome.

Getting help from someone else, especially a man who was loyal to the King like Doctor Bundt would only make matters complicated for her.

Therefore, it was a blessing that Reina did not know the inner workings of the physician's mind and was clueless about his curious thoughts.

However, she was well aware of the curious thoughts in her head which she wished to reveal so that she might know more about them from this knowledgeable old man.

Doctor Bundt was patient as he waited for the chamberlain to put forth what was on his mind.

He saw the young man rubbing his flat stomach and wondered if there was something wrong with his insides.

"Do you still feel uncomfortable?" He inquired so that he might help the chamberlain get better soon.

Reina nodded her head in eager agreement as this was what she was about to disclose.

"Last night…" She muttered in a low voice with a complicated look on her face.

While Doctor Bundt sat in silence, Reina revealed the hunger she had felt last night.

Even after eating that sandwich she had made, her stomach felt empty by the time she returned to her room.

The urge to consume that she had felt was difficult to explain to the physician but she did her best to put that feeling into words.

"Like... I was full but not full at the same time." She chuckled awkwardly, knowing full well that she wasn't making complete sense right now.

Contrary to the confusion that she had expected on the old man's face, he nodded as though this was not something strange and had heard of this condition in the past.

Turning his head to the right, his eyes scanned the bedside tables on either side of Rein's bed.

Reina too followed his gaze when he halted at a strange-looking empty vase placed on the bedside table on the side they were seated, right next to the large open window.

"You seem to have run out of your stock of pills." He muttered before turning back towards Reina.

Whiplashing back to face the bearded physician, Reina frowned.

'Pills?' She pursed her lips when a certain thought came to her mind.

'Rein Melk, you popped pills!?' She widened her eyes in shock at this discovery about her predecessor's personal life.
