Two hours had passed in the blink of an eye and to her surprise, Reina had made a discovery this morning.
The stiff-looking Doctor Bundt had turned out to be a great conversationalist and she enjoyed talking to him.
Through him, she had learned much about this world but made sure to not let him suspect that she was ignorant of the same.
Pretending to make small talk, she had brought up various topics she wished to learn more about, and thankfully, her mind had not forsaken her as well.
Whenever the old man spoke about something she had no knowledge about, the memories residing in her brain were triggered.
This way, she had uncovered a good amount of information after absorbing Rein's memories into her consciousness.
"So that is what happened?" Reina tossed out a question and the old man answered with a nod.
As it turned out, this old man was someone who liked to be aware of what goes around in this palace.
He lived in a separate portion of the Palace assigned to him by the King and had fewer people around it.
This allowed the maids who came to serve him every day to be relaxed and they did not realize that there was someone listening in on the conversations they engaged in while working in the old physician's enclave.
Thus, he would listen to the information passed around by the maids in the Palace, giving him the privilege to know much about the happenings that one would not notice otherwise.
Thanks to this sneaky hobby of his, he had learned of something which he had disclosed to Rein as well, as it had become common knowledge by now.
Not to mention that this matter was related to the young vampire he had come over to check upon.
Thus, he was the one who initiated this new topic and even generously spilled some 'tea' about the hot gossip circulating among the maids working in the Palace.
According to the news he had heard from his sources i.e., the Palace maids, the two ladies who were involved in the poisoning incident had been punished accordingly.
The King had commanded them to remain inside their rooms for the next two weeks to contemplate their reckless actions and if they were to disobey him and try to step out then the consequences would be dire.
Reina was impressed with the stern and swift action that the King had taken against those who had harmed her predecessor, Rein Melk.
She had assumed that the ladies would be left scot-free due to their higher status and the fact that one of them would become his Queen in the future.
However, the scary King had done nothing of that sort and bestowed justice without a second thought.
The part of Reina's brain that was impressed by the decision made by Meteor Sama's look-alike was soon subdued by the rational part of her mind.
'Getting grounded in exchange for murdering someone is not punishment enough for them.' She soon realized that the scales weren't balanced.
Someone had died due to their wicked deeds which had led her to occupy this body but those two ladies were only given a minor slap on the wrist in the name of being punished for their misdeeds.
At the same time, she also remembered that the others did not know about Rein's death, in whose body she was currently residing.
For the rest of the world, Rein Melk had somehow managed to survive Lady Amaira's deadly poison but she knew better as Rein had died from the poison which allowed her to take Rein's place.
Therefore, she was left with conflicting emotions about the punishment being given to the two ladies.
Diving deeper into her thoughts regarding this incident, a new question arose in her mind.
She could not grasp why Lady Marin had targeted Rein and poisoned her.
What would she achieve by killing the chamberlain who did nothing but serve the King with all sincerity?
'Is it because Rein was meek and did not dare to stand up for herself so they thought that she was an easy target?' She wondered whether her predecessor's non-confrontational attitude had led them to believe that she would tolerate their bullying in silence.
The more she thought in this way, the more she felt that poor Rein had suffered an unjust death in this Palace where no one cared for her.
Those ladies had played around with Rein's life on a whim which had led her to a desolate and painful death.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she did not notice that her emotions were beginning to flare once again.
Doctor Bundt could sense that the air around them inside this room was once again getting colder, similar to the time when Treegan had revealed that Lady Marin had sent someone to poison the chamberlain.
"Do not worry, lad, our King will make sure that this does not happen again." He assured the younger vampire, assuming that he was upset about the injustices he had faced in the last few days.
Reina snapped out of her thoughts at his words as that was not what was on her mind.
Instead, she was trying to decipher why such a thing might have taken place and what benefit would Lady Marin gain after poisoning Rein.
She was also doubtful of the reason why Lady Amaira had given her helping hand in the preparation of the said poison.
Doctor Bundt sighed when the room regained its former temperature, indicating that the young man had gotten a hold of his emotions.
On the other hand, when these questions popped up in Reina's mind, another thought or rather, a series of incidents had emerged in her mind.
The answer she was seeking got clearer and she soon realized why poor Rein had to suffer that night and die all alone.
'Lady Marin…' She grit her teeth at what she had just realized once the memories from Rein's consciousness became clear to her.
Just as she was about to inquire something to gain clarity regarding the memories which emerged in her mind, she heard footsteps headed their way.
The old and young vampire both with excellent hearing abilities turned in the direction of the door which had been left wide open ever since the Doctor had arrived.
Through that door, the pair sitting inside saw another pair entering the chamberlain's room.
On instinct, Doctor Bundt and Reina stood up in haste upon seeing that it was their King who had walked inside.
The regal King had his eyes set on the servant who helped him get dressed in the morning and behind the King was his trusted aide and shadow who was always around him.
King Zander's golden irises moved from Rein Melk to the old doctor who bowed before his presence to pay obeisance.
"How is he?" A simple question was heard once his pale lips were parted and the physician hurried to answer.
The King paid attention to the diagnosis reported by the physician before nodding his head.
Everything seemed fine with his chamberlain's body and he could resume his daily duties tomorrow onwards.
'I performed my duties today as well.' Reina held in the urge to roll her eyes and remind the two men who were discussing her work schedule that she had already done what was expected of her today too.
They spoke as though she had been given complete bed rest but the fact was that she had woken up bright and early this morning to fulfill all her tasks with due diligence.
Despite knowing everything she had done, she received no word of praise as the King did nothing to acknowledge her hard work and turned around.
As annoyed as she was, she was also ecstatic that he was leaving.
'Finally!' She sighed in relief as her watchful eyes remained on the door connecting their rooms which the King and his aide had used to enter the King's Royal bedchambers.
From beginning to end, Treegan had not even looked in Rein's direction after what had taken place this morning.
However, Reina shrugged his indifference off because it did not matter to her as long as he received the punishment she had decided for him without any complaints.
'Tomorrow will be a fun day~' She snickered, causing the old man still in the room to become confused by the sudden shift in Rein's emotions.
Just earlier, the young man appeared anxious and troubled, then when the King came, he noticed no emotions but when His Majesty and Treegan left, Rein seemed happy once again.
'Young blood is too energetic.' He sighed while shaking his head as he was getting too old to understand what was going on in their minds.
Reina did not know that her expression of joy at Treegan's approaching misfortune had been misunderstood for Rein's quickly shifting attitude.
Even if she did, she would not have a way to explain why she looked relieved when the King left along with Treegan.
Therefore, the old physician was left to his own devices as he thought of some plausible reason for the young vampire's volatile and ever-changing emotions.
