Chereads / Laura’s love story / Chapter 2 - Decisions

Chapter 2 - Decisions

It was a bright Monday morning, I could hear melodious sounds from the birds, the sunlight hit my face through a tiny space in my curtain, I woke up with so many thoughts, i missed Kenny around the house it was usually so quiet well unless mum and dad are having an argument , things would have been better if she we're around and if Dad didn't become irresponsible and disrespect mum they won't have had to send her off to Aunt Mia, although she was too young and as usual my parents never wanted either of us to perceive or suspect a fault between them.

Too late I knew already and was glad Kenisha was doing well and although I missed her so much we were on the phone whenever they was an opportunity. I had just graduated from college and I finally had made a choice admits all the issues and absence of peace that has been going on at home, the thought of moving ahead with my plans of relocating always rang a bell in my head, it's been 4 months already and yes I want to leave home apart from the constant issues my parents had which was affecting my sanity I was tired and I won't like to say that was chasing me out, I just needed a space of my own, I needed to be independent and take responsibility for myself. Dad and mum will be fine I thought, before they had us they had lived together for several years before mum conceived me so they should be able to be at peace with each other however and whenever they deem it fit

I had my life to live

I needed to make new decisions

I had a career to chase.

I had graduated as one of the best students from my department, oh yeah if I should say for myself I'd pass as a brilliant student I studied business administration. You might be wondering why I didn't take my mum's divorce idea upon myself well that was because I had heard of worse case scenarios and my parents problem was nothing compared to them. Couple have extra marital affairs outside their marriages, some have children outside marriage, I mean every family has issues sometimes but at some point I almost lost hope on them both but I just had the believe that they could work out things and besides I didn't want a broken home. Dad wasn't hitting mum, it wasn't a case of domestic violence, he didn't bring another woman into the house, he didn't bring a child home. Although his actions cannot be justified I still felt it wasn't enough reason to get a divorce.

My own parents?

Oh no! I won't support that, I thought aloud.

It was a few minutes past 9am and I heard a knock on my door and mum walked in right before I could say a word.

Laura there are some mails for you, she said.

Oh mum thanks for reminding me, hopefully it has some good news I've been expecting. Her face didn't look bright but unfortunately I didn't wanna ask why cause I could guess correctly at a chance.

I had sent out job applications to several organizations across the city hopefully I get hired by one of them.

Being unemployed made me sick, I was very strong willed and had so much zeal in making moves to have a better life for myself although I was usually helping mum at the store I just wanted independence, I needed to take account for myself, make good money off my career, take care of mum and Kenny, probably dad too.

I had turned 22 a few months back, and was less concerned about the opposite sex

Yeah I didn't have a boyfriend and also never had a problem with that. As a student I perceived keeping a boyfriend as a distraction I wouldn't say for others but my opinion was that they would distract me from the main purpose I was sent to school probably the dumbest form of reasoning. I didn't wanna go low on my grades so I was always studying. I spent most of my free time at the library, I didn't have much or any social appearance, I wasn't attending parties or going to clubs, so I didn't get into any trouble in school.

I could say I missed partaking in the fun or experience in college but it didn't bother me at all. I also didn't have a lot of friends well just one and we were so close, her name is Ariel. We meet in our first year in school and have been close friends since then, we studied together, ate together, walked together in school, we did almost everything together, she was my best friend . Ariel was talented, she was a good singer and a brilliant student at the same time. She had the most melodious voice I had ever heard I used to tease her and always said she sang like the angles in heaven even though either of us knew how they sound.

She had always wanted to sing in front of someone other than me, probably to a small audience or a live performance at a show but her parents were not in support of her singing as they thought of it as a distraction but Ariel wouldn't give up she kept on writing songs at any free opportunity she got. After graduating, Ariel was doing we'll for herself, she moved to stay with her elder sister In the Uk and lucky enough she got a job as a manager In a 5 star hotel. We would always speak on the phone she told me about her new environment, she was getting a good pay and had a comfortable accommodation and as expected Ariel was very much into her music and also started singing at a karaoke bar after work hours. All this motivated me to leave home with or without a job, my sister was far away and likewise my best friend. I had some savings and my parents could also add a lil something to support me although mum tried convincing me severally to stay back but regardless I had already made up my mind to leave.

Later that evening, after dinner I decided to check what my mail said

And lo and behold I got it

It was an employment letter

I was finally gonna move, start a new life, omg I was so overwhelmed with joy, Sharclar limited had just hired me to fill the position of a deputy manager.
