Moving out of the house where I grew up was quiet though for me, we had lived in that house ever since I can remember and there were lots of memories well mostly good memories. There was no doubt I was going to miss home, I was going to miss mum and dad, I was going to miss going to the store, I'd also miss our cute little puppy Zeus. My bags were all packed and I was set for my journey. I put all my bags in the trunk and waved dad goodbye, mum was gonna drive me to the airport and head to the store from there. We stopped by the fuel station to fill the tank and zoom, zoom we moved. We decided to stop by Sharon's delight, she makes the best donuts in town and I was a donut addict, I could eat two boxes at a sitting. It was so soft, fluffy, creamy, delicious, delightful oh my just name it, I could go on and on describing how mouth watering her donut is, I had to stop by for a few boxes cause It was the best I've had and one of the things I'll miss, there could be better ones in Chicago but I was convinced it was the best.
Twenty minutes into the drive we heard a sound like air leaving a gas pipe oh no it was a flat tire.
It was a very bright day, the sun was shining like it was sent to us directly. Not now, I thought to myself. I didn't wanna be late, oh no what if I miss my flight, I began to feel so much panic inside of me, mum saw the look of disappointment and confusion all over my face so she braced up and had to be the brave one . We came down and brought out the spare tire from the boot funny enough we stared at ourselves and the tire for a couple of minutes and the laughed out so had. None of us had changed a tire before there was no nearby garage or mechanic shop and that was a problem we were parked somewhere outside town and I had not even the slightest idea of how a flat tire is removed neither how to fix a new one on. An idea crossed my mind and I had no other choice but to flag down moving cars hopefully I'll get response and help from one of them but the first two declined they just droves passed like I was an invincible being, probably they had an emergency or where just in a hurry or didn't care about helping strangers or maybe just being security conscious, not like we looked harmful or something . I began to angrily loose hope until a silver color tinted SUV stopped, the glasses rolled down and it was a handsome young guy driving, oh my! I thought for a second it has been a while I saw such cuteness or even admired anyone but to be honest to myself this one was so fine . Nevertheless I didn't need that distraction I had a flight to catch and I was running late already, yeah most times I usually too serious.
Hello young lady, he said what's wrong?
Hmmm that was obvious dumb head I thought to myself okay I'll just respond politely since he obviously wants to hear me say it
Well we had a flat tire and need help fixing it I said.
What's the pay price? he asked
Omg at this point? Like he said that for real ? I mean people no longer know when to joke, immediately I felt so disgusted like guy I'm not joking here it's been almost an hour an we're stuck here without help. You helping or not? I asked
My mum had to come over an ask politely apparently he couldn't help but offered us a ride to the airport which we couldn't decline because we were running outta time already. Throughout the time Danny kept on talking and yes his name is Danny he introduced himself I mean no one asked and the last thing I was in the mood for was exchanging pleasantries. Danny gave me no choice I mean after all he was a kind guy and selflessly offered us a ride to the airport regardless of where he was headed so I needed to drop my pride and show some appreciation. Mum kept on smiling while he talked about his trip to Africa which as expected no one asked of.
A few minutes later we had arrived at the airport and my flight had already began boarding, yeah I was late and lucky they had not left yet so I hugged mum bye so fast cause there was no time to do the emotional thing, you know just like in the movies; crying, running back for more hugs and more. I told the young man how grateful I was for his kind gesture and off I went. I walked down the departure walkway with so much excitement and sadness at the same time. Sad cause I'd miss home and excited too about the new life ahead of me, whatever it was I just knew I'd enjoy this new phase. Don't ask me what happened during the flight cause I slept almost all through, I sat right beside this old lady and I gave ears to all her discussions about her favorite series "Tyler Perry's sisters" I also enjoyed that movie series too but I wasn't saying anything or acted like I followed it up rather I just let her tell me about it like I had never heard about it nor seen it. She practically told me the story till I slept off. A pat on my shoulder woke me up, we had just landed at Chicago mid way international airport, I felt received as I walked down out of the aircraft. It was so refreshing, the atmosphere was so clear it was like oxygen is different hear it went in differently and I felt this calm sensation oh yeah I love this city I smiled to myself.
