August 2024, Earth
All in the meeting room know that the old man in the gray suit is the chairman of Gu Crops. But the young man was a face they had never seen before.
The old man sat on a chair similar to Charlotte's next to the projector screen. He even gestured to the young man to sit beside him while his secretary went to a small white table on the right side of the screen.
The secretary turned on the projector and plugged in the USB he brought. A little later, a large sign appeared on it that read, '2024 New Management Plan for Gu Entertainment'.
Holding his cane, the chairman stood up from his seat.
"Good morning to all of you. Before we start today's meeting, I'd like to introduce my grandson." A young man with brown hair who came in with him stood up. The old man's gesture confirmed that the young man was the one.
The young man introduced himself enthusiastically: "Hello everyone, my name is Gu Wei. I just returned to China after studying abroad for quite some time. It would be an honor to prove my ability to help my grandfather here. I hope my seniors can guide me with anything I am wrong at." He made a light bow to show his sincerity at the end of his words and sat back.
The chairman grins throughout the whole introduction of his grandchild. While the shareholders couldn't believe that this was finally happening and exchanged looks with each other, Charlotte felt like she had heard that name before somewhere.
The chairman pointed to the projection screen with his cane and said, "As you've all seen here, today's meeting is about changing the management system at Gu Entertainment." His cane was put back in front of him once he finished speaking.
The projection screen changed to show all the static usage of money from the past five years. The majority of the percentage was used for production, but 30 percent was lost due to contract breaks with artists.
The room was silent for a moment before everyone began to whisper to each other.
Despite this, the chairman continued, "Our current system is causing contract breaks, and we will need a new management system to prevent this."
Following his words, the room becomes increasingly loud.
Three times, the chairman stomped his cane, then nodded at his secretary to go on. The voices died down as a result.
Charlotte was immersed in her thought process, she didn't even notice that Gu Wei was staring at her the entire time. At first, he didn't believe that this young girl held 25 percent of Gu Crop.
As the image projected on the projector changes, the chairman begins to explain his new system simply and briefly. The data explained the reason for the trend in several ways: the company suffers many losses due to contract breaks, and this is why it should change its current system.
"I strongly urge the company to implement grouping and consistent management of all artists, hence my recommendation. The company's hundreds of artists will be divided into four groups. Each group is under the authority of one of the managing directors. " His explanation finally ended.
Charlotte finally realized what the chairman had in mind. In Gu Crop, there are only three managing directors, which means the fourth person is most likely to be the chairman or the new face, his grandson. Finally, she glances near the chairman to take a good look at the man responsible for this entire overhaul. It made Gu Wei turn away from her.
As the projector was turned off, the chairman said his final words: "Since I'm finished, please raise your hands if you think we should change this. Those who won't raise it, explain why so we can discuss it."
The way he says it, it sounds like he will not accept any rejection. As they have nothing to lose and will not suffer from managing the new system, all of the small shareholders started to raise their hands. Soon, the only person that didn't raise her hand was Charlotte.
The chairman scowled at her behavior. Nevertheless, his expression changed into a smile, knowing that all of the other shareholders were on his side. She was the only woman on the board, and they wouldn't care about her at all if she didn't have the shares.
I would like to know the reason why you did not agree, Managing Director Huan?" he inquired.
While pointing at his grandson, Charlotte candidly told him, "If he is qualified for a position like that, I will be on board with it."
