Zura turned his head to look back over the distance at the sight of a beautiful woman bound and gagged in chains kneeling on the ground, her golden teary eyes bored into him, pleading for him to run. Then, he looked next to the woman at the kneeling chained man with his head held high staring at him with a furrowed brow and golden eyes that held absolute resolution, as if he was ready at any moment to die and refused to go without a fight. Zura knew his parents wanted him to escape, however he knew he couldn't. Not at that moment. It just wasn't in his nature. He told them once that he was not afraid of the beast and it was the truth. He holds no fear for the beast beyond the seal. If anything, he had a slight expectation. In the time since Zura learned of his fate at 10 years old, his views of the world in which he lives had been broadened. The planet Earth. To the commonwealth, it is a world in which humans stand at the top of the food chain and technology is King. Even though they lie, cheat, steal, harm, and kill one another in a plethora of ways, for the most part, it is a place where the majority of the population are able to live a life of relative peace. Zura knew this. However, what he did not know was the price that was paid for that peace to exist. Humans alone are not the only intelligent lifeforms on the planet known as Earth. Various beasts, monstrosities, and creatures reminiscent of those in fiction have existed since the beginning of man. The only thing is, they exist in a dimension that has long been sealed by the power of the Gods, however it has been left to humans to maintain the seal. And that is where the ridiculousness is born. Once a year, the seal weakens and it kicks up strange phenomenon that lasts all year round. These seals exists in multiple parts of the world and there are families that are meant to guard the seals. Zura's family, the Ren family, are one of them. Their kingdom exists inside what the outside world knows as the Bermuda Triangle. It is a beautiful kingdom that had always known peace following the lead of the royal family. However, in Zura's opinion, humans are quite ignorant and mostly stupid. Because the portal to the dimension of "monsters" creates distortions to the area surrounding the Kingdom of Ren, and the various other locations in which portals exists, the humans, through their own interpretation, have decided that "exceptional" individuals must be given to the portal in order to ensure the stability of the seal and maintain the protection of the Gods, or at least, that is what was written in the past, and had been mostly practiced in the present. However, Zura believed that belief only spread after a lot of hypothesizing, speculation, and superstition. It is foolish to think that simply because at one point in time, when it is believed the portals began to influence humanity leading to the deaths of countless lives in wars fought between men, and a few individuals took it upon themselves to be sacrificed to the portal and then the world knew peace (supposedly), does not mean that it is necessary to continue sacrificing, nor does it mean that the sacrifice actually resulted in the stability of the portals, or the dissolution of war. It is all just logic based around fear and that is why Zura found the idea of himself being sacrificed to be completely nonsensical in a time when facts lord over superstition.
