Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - 10000 years

"Those are overpowered skills aren't they?" Asked Xavier as he saw the skill descriptions.

He thought about something and asked," Where is that powerful senior you said would help me?"

[He is inside you. He will help when the time comes.]

"OK then. When can I go out?"

[Now]

As soon as the system said this, the whole space shone brightly and soon Xavier found himself in a room. He was lying on his bed naked. He woke up and saw himself in the mirror. He looked exactly like himself but a bit taller and a bit more mature. He looked around and found out that this place is a little fancy.

He saw a watch like thing on the desk. Its called an omniband.

"This omniband looks very fancy. Did you prepare it for me?" Asked Xavier.

[No. This is the standard omniband which is given to every citizen in the world.]

"Isn't it too fancy to be given as stan..." Xavier's sentence cut of as he saw the date and his eyes widened so much that they genuinely seemed to pop off.

He saw that 10000 years had passed. He was shocked. He asked the system," What the fuck happened? Why is it showing that I'm 10000 years into the future?"

[That's because you are.] Answered the system bluntly.

"Why did it take 10000 years and moreover isn't it supposed to be that you can stop time and like 1 second passed in the real world is equal to 1000 years in the imaginary world. Why did the so much time pass in the outside world?" Asked Xavier with a deep tension in his voice.

[That's because you took 10000 to complete the beginner's course.]

"But you said it would take 1000 years to do it right."

[Who told you to be a complete idiot who can't comprehend basic courses fast enough.] The system said in disdain.

"Well that's true as well."

"But what about my identity? The Federation keeps a strict record on identity you know. Its not like I can pop out of some place and be like 'Hi I'm Xavier, I'm from 10000 years into the past' right?"

[The system has given you the identity you need. Please put on the omniband to receive your basic data.]

'I put on the omniband and got to see my I.D. It was the same as the system said. My identity is squeaky clean. It mentions that I was an orphan who grew up in the Clark's orphanage in Sector London. After attaining the age of 15, I've been sent out to make a living for myself. I had rudimentary knowledge in mechanics and I made a living off repairing stuff for people and made a small amount of money which helped me rent a house and scrape by my day to day life.'

Reading the info he got, Xavier sighed. "This SYSTEM really knows how to cheat the system. It got me an I.D and a good back story as well."

On reaching the end if the information given, he saw a mail which was highlighted in rainbow colours. It was quite mesmerising. As soon as he tapped on the email, the SYSTEM rang out...

[MISSION - Join the Star Academy branch of South Star city as a mechanic. Mission reward - Depends on completion rate.]

In this human empire, there are 3 most desired occupations. Those are Mechanics, Alchemists and Engravers. Of the three the easiest and the most popular are the mechanics. They are the foundation of the new human civilization. Almost everything is built using technology and making this technology is one if the pillars of the civilization.

While Alchemists and Engravers are even more desired jobs than mechanics, they are impossibly difficult. They need immeasurable amounts of knowledge and talent and even more than that, they need money. Because of that, there is about 1  for every 100 billion people and that is the worst grade alchemist and engravers. The higher grade ones are even rarer.

The mechanics are quintessential for society as everything is built by them. It goes from the most basic machines like floor cleaners to the most advanced spaceships.

Engravers on the other hand are even rarer. It is said s we progress towards the central continent, the machines will be too brittle to handle the natural forces and too many moving parts in these machines are too vulnerable. Because of this, the engravers are needed to engrave formations onto the machines. These formations will reinforce the machines with mana.

These reinforced machines will we able to withstand damage far above what these metals can withstand by themselves. Alchemists are even rare. They are called alchemists because they can perform miracles using the potions they concoct. Even the worst of the alchemists will produce miracle medicines like those which can grow limbs within seconds and can extend life by a few decades.

Now Xavier is going to the Star Academy to join as a mechanic. While he has learnt a lot, the one thing he didn't learn was mechanical work. Xavier didn't know why the SYSTEM has given this task but he went on in search of this academy.

Xavier went outside his abode. His home is an apartment in the outskirts if the city. Large buildings, thousands of floors tall make up the outskirts where the common people live. Xavier got out and roamed around a bit, looking at this new environment.

Everything seems new as there are obvious advances in technology as he had seen those basic amenities upgraded to a new level. But still, these technologies seemed to be a little backward. Previously he had lived in the capital of the Origin Planet and even though he had not seen much, what he had seen was enough to determine that the level of tech here is way too backward. It is not even in the same level as the capital of the Planet even after 10000 years. This shows how tight the new tech is kept under regulations by those of the upper class.

As he wandered around, Xavier used his omniband to find out about the route to the academy. It was about a 1 hour walk from the place he was staying at. He started to walk but seeing that he had a little credits to spare, he hired a hovercar and went to the destination.

Speaking of the Star Academy, it is one of the three major academic organisations of the Origin Planet. It has the most branches and almost all the cities have branches of the Star Academy. These branches, while not being as advanced as the main academy itself, they are the best one could hope for while studying.

It is said that the academy was built a 100 million years ago and from then on, it has spread throughout all of the sectors of the world. Some rumors even say that the star academy is the best academy of the whole Solar sub colony of the Helios Colony.

While this may not be true, even sparking such rumors show the vast reach this academy has. The branch academies are one of the first buildings to be built by the city management. This is one of the attractions which can be useful to attract people to the newly built cities.

The Academy forum mentions that this particular branch is a 100000 years old and from this I guess that the city itself is of the same age. After the world expanded, most of the landmass was covered by dangerous forests and forbidden lands, and most if these were all difficult to occupy. And the world itself was not peaceful. People tend to be at risk of dying every second they are in the wild and even after so many millions of years, the world is still unexplored.

This is mainly because of the suppression that the forest creates to any human who enters it as well as the myriad living beings which will kill humans in a moment of carelessness.

And considering all of this, the South Star city is a very new city and as far as Xavier knows, a new city is formed only every 100 thousand years.

On continuing to read the forums, he also found out many facilities which the Academy provides. They include cultivation methods, mana rocks, training chambers, combat arenas and many more.

But as it is a new city, the mechanics department is a bit behind. Even after so many years, the people of the academy prefer to hire mechanics from other well developed cities rather than to train their own people as it cheaper but under the compulsion of the City management, they opened the Mechanics department just a 1000 years ago.

"So I'm joining a fledgling department huh?" Sighed Xavier. He knew that a department needs at least 10000 years to be recognised. This 100 year old department is as good a fledgling.

As he made his way to the academy, he saw a huge line of people standing near the entrance of the academy.

'Today is the start of the yearly recruitment week of the academy. It quite convenient that I got here on this day.' Thought Xavier.

[Hmph, the SYSTEM's plans are flawless] sounded the system in his head.

"Yes, yes and by the way, can you stop reading my mind?" Asked Xavier exasperated.
