Chapter 4 - Dead Dragon

Lux opened the survival guide and looked at step four:

-Gain 5 runes

-Reach level 25.

-Kill a Boss level monster

-Gain your second skill

Lux was overwhelmed with all the things listed.

"I guess the first three steps were the easy part," Lux sighed.

Second skill? But I don't even have my first! Lux was confused until he saw that the skills tab was unlocked. In the skills tab, there stood a tree of small black squares. There was only one square that was lit up and it read:

Swipe- allows the user to see weak points of a creature and smoothly cut them (Knife skill).

Mastery level: 1

Mastery points left to level up: 10

Lux frowned, it was a knife skill that he didn't have. Even if he used the stone knife with that skill, it wouldn't be as effective as an actual knife.

Still, Lux figured he could at least practice the skill with his make-shift knife for when he actually got a real knife. But to test the skill out, Lux would need a test subject. Lux wondered what monster would best work for this skill.

He shrugged and hunted a fish from the shoreline, it was a long fish with teeth sticking out of its mouth. Lux managed to grab one and suffocated it before using it as a test dummy. He then used Swipe, his eyes dilated as he could now see every spot adequate for cutting with ren lines guiding his knife.

In a few moments, the fish was sliced into three clean pieces of white tender meat. Lux started a fire and cooked the fish while seasoning it with some salt he found in one of the villager's houses. It wasn't the best food but it was definitely better than the food he had been eating yesterday.

Lux stretched his arms and got up from finishing his meal. He needed to move, there was no point in staying here if he couldn't level up as efficiently as before. Coal skeletons were good for XP but since they were hard to find and he would need to kill more than 4 to level up. Lux packed his things and marched off past the castle next to the village.

After traveling for a couple of miles Lux reached the end of the snowy tundra desert and found himself in front of a snowy mountainous region, Lux scratched his head. How was he supposed to traverse through such harsh regions?

Lux wanted to go back but spotted something weird in the distance, it looked like a large rib cage. Lux walked over and found himself in front of a dead creature's body, its head looked similar to a lizard's head with its stern nose and curvy eyes.

"It's a dragon!" Lux was surprised, if it really was a dragon then maybe he could harvest its body for future purposes.

Lux tried to rip a piece of the rib but it wouldn't budge. This dragon bone would do well for crafting if he could get his hands on a crafting recipe that implemented dragon bone to it. Lux heard some rustling and hid behind one of the dragon bones. A gang of goblins lingered around the head of the dragon, they had even set up a campfire in its skull and were cooking some sort of meat that had a weird fragrance to it.

Lux wondered how strong the goblins were, he swiftly moved from one rib to another and got closer to the goblins. He then flung his machete at one of the goblins' heads, it exploded into pieces as Lux retracted his weapon from its corpse. The other goblins were alerted and grabbed their spears and started charging Lux.

Lux quickly spawned in his stone knife as one of the goblins shot its spear at Lux, he managed to dodge it and slice its head off cleanly using Swipe but in the process broke the stone blade from the wooden hilt.

It went flying in a random direction.

Two others charged him as one threw its spear at Lux and the other defended the other, Lux ducked as the spear flew over his head he got back up and into a stance.

The goblin with a spear swung it around like a mace and charged at Lux, he slid under the goblin and cut both of its feet off, and sliced the head of the other behind it. As the other goblin turned around to find its friend dead you could see the hopelessness it wore on its face as it grew pale and frightened.

The goblin started running away in fear but Lux followed behind it like a hunter following his prey. With one clean cut to the throat, the goblin was decapitated as blood spewed out like a leak. Lux checked his stats and saw he had gotten a very good amount of XP from them as he was close to leveling up.

Lux was ready to set camp here when he heard more rustling, it was a weird-looking lizard standing on its two feet looking straight into Lux's soul. The lizard itself was larger than most but still small with only 1 foot tall. It leaped towards Lux and opened its mouth, a flaming fireball was directed for Lux's face. Luckily since Lux already knew the lizard was there he managed to dodge the attack. Lux reached his hand to grab the lizard but quickly took it back realizing there was a heat barrier between the lizard and the air.

If he didn't take his hand back as quickly as he did it would have disintegrated into ash. He couldn't shoot his machete at it because he was afraid it might turn into glass and break down. There was no way to kill this lizard, it was probably a level 13 for all Lux knew.

Lux heard even more monsters coming, this dead dragon body attracted a lot of monsters to it. This place was probably one of the most dangerous places he could set camp at so he started running out of the dragon's ribs. Lux really wanted a sample of dragon bone before he left and leaped on top of the ribs and started jumping over each one of the rib bones.

Another gang of goblins came, and they started throwing rocks at Lux. Although it was annoying Lux maintained his position on top of the dead dragon. He got near the head and jumped onto it and tried to rip any loose dragon teeth, he felt one moving and grew excited.

Maintaining his calm he yanked it out of the dragon's mouth and jumped down before the goblins could reach him. He sprinted far from the dragon corpse and took shelter in a little broken-down shack. Lux closed the door and boarded it up with a wardrobe near the living room. The house was very quiet, Lux figured it was empty and sat down next to the door trying to catch his breath.

"That place is great for leveling up but that lizard was too much." Lux really wanted to go back there but knew the dragon attracted monsters higher than his level.

Lux looked at the tooth he managed to grab and figured he could make a dagger out of it even if it was an amateur one. Grabbing some rope from inventory and attaching the hilt of the old broken knife to the new one, Lux made a dragon tooth dagger from it, it was way sharper than the old one for sure.

He tested the dagger on the wall, he could cleanly carve up letters with a pencil and believed he could even carve a hole in the wall if he wanted. Lux wondered if with this dragon tooth knife he could kill the lizard back where the dragon's corpse laid.

He left the shack after recuperating and went back to the dragon's corpse; there was a battle going on when Lux got there and observed from a rock in the distance. A pack of silver wolves ran around a group of goblins.

One goblin stuck his spear in the gut of one of them but it didn't penetrate. Using its mouth, the wolf snapped the wooden spear in half and rammed the goblin down. It was obvious that the goblins were the ones being hunted. As the faces of the goblins grew helpless, Lux jumped off the rock and approached the battle.

Using the dragon tooth dagger, Lux stabbed one of the closest wolves in the head which instantly killed it. The cut was so smooth Lux almost thought he was cutting jello, Lux quickly jumped to the goblins and decapitated all of them in one slash using Swipe. The wolves growled in anger, they weren't too happy someone was stealing their prey.

But since Lux knew he could easily kill them he was not too worried about their tough skin, what he was worried about were their numbers and speed. There were about 4 of them, that was enough of them to make them a threat since Lux didn't have armor to protect him. One sprung at him at high speeds, Lux quickly evaded and cut its foot.

The wolf cried and another leaped at Lux in anger, Lux now regretted jumping into the fight and had greatly underestimated the power of the silver wolves. Lux managed to move his head out of the way but its sharp teeth cut his shoulder up very badly.

Lux groaned in pain and stabbed the wolf in its eye, latching onto it in the process. The wolf tried to shake him off but Lux gripped firmly onto his dagger. Lux then started pushing the dagger deeper into its skull, blood flowed freely as the wolf grew desperate and started rolling in the sand while crying.

The other wolves had no choice but to watch as they couldn't risk injuring the wolf any more than it already was. The dagger was slowly penetrating the skull as the wolf's energy slowly started to fade, it soon stopped moving entirely as Lux had cut into its brain.

The other wolves couldn't hold their anger and pounced on Lux, slashing their razor-sharp claws at him. Lux put the dead wolf's corpse on top of him and used it as a shield from the attacks. The wolves stopped attacking as Lux threw the corpse onto the middle wolf and attacked the wolf on the right side of it.

The wolf tried to jump back but Lux sped up in front of its face and stabbed his dagger right into its forehead. The wolf's eye turned white as it too died instantly, the dragon tooth dagger was incredibly powerful and Lux was glad he made it.

The wolves froze in fear, now they started realizing the power gap between them and Lux. Lux didn't dare let them leave now and was determined to collect their XP.

As the wolves started to turn around to run, Lux dashed forward and jumped on one of the wolves, and made it crash into the other. Lux then slit both of their throats and carried their corpses back to the dead dragon. As he stacked up the dead wolves he started a campfire and cut the wolves into small portions, he cooked some for himself and stored the rest in his inventory.

Lux didn't just throw out the other things the wolves had on them, their fur was tough and light and could be made for some good armor not to mention that he added protection to the cold. The teeth on the other hand Lux wasn't sure of, he already had a good dagger so he would have to use it for another time.

Lux cooked his meat and leveled up, he was now level 12.
