Chereads / Mad Hound of Esselgarde / Chapter 23 - Is Sian a Genius?

Chapter 23 - Is Sian a Genius?

Rovenin took a bath in lukewarm water and all the thoughts weighing down his mind were washed away with the water.

He put on some clothes and stood in front of the mirror.

He looked into his own eyes trying to sort himself out.

He sighed.

" How am I going to show this face to Sian? "

He laughed it off.

' It's good that he wasn't exposed to anything dangerous but it seems like I should keep myself in check.

I'm getting too full of myself.'

He got close to his reflection and touched it.

He took a black thread lying around and tied his hair falling until his shoulders.

'I should get going before Sian starts screaming the stupid nicknames he made up for me.'

Rovenin found them inside the training hall which was built inside the mansion.

He found the mother and son pair brainstorming.

They changed their clothes into clothes fit for sparring.

Askaneira was in a pinch.

"Siaaannn, can you explain it to me using words that I'm familiar with?"

Carseain was flapping his hands in the air and was confused.

" Uh..uh... okay...wait. So first near your heart-"

Rovenin: " It seems you guys are having a fun and lively discussion."

They both turned to Rovenin.

Askaneira: " Just what part of this is fun and lively?"

Rovenin chuckled.

Rovenin: " Tell me, what's the matter?"

Carseain tugged Rovenin's sleeve and looked at him with puppy eyes.

Rovenin's heart jumped out.

He smiled at him.

Carseain : " She says she can't understand me."

Rovenin : " Is that so?"

Askaneira butted in.

" He is trying to tell me how he did that yesterday."

Rovenin looked at Carseain.

Rovenin: " Tell me too."

Carseain : " So, first when I was seeing the magic flow that you guided I saw that it goes from the heart to the ends. "

Rovenin : " Yes that's correct. Since a magic circuit is similar to blood vessels. "

Carseain : " I also do the same. But yours goes 'vroom', 'voom' and then 'weee' but mine goes 'bam', 'bam' and 'boom'."

Carseain was worried that Rovenin wouldn't understand him, so he started to go into detail.

" And it also goes 'phish' at certain places. I didn't know that before. I had to make sure that it's the exact same 'whoosh' at the exact same place. 'whoosh' can't even go 'voosh' it was really tough."

Carseain said whining.

Askaneira palmed her head.

' I thought it was some new things kids these days do but even Kiha and Kina had no idea.'

She crossed her arms, sighing.

"He is my son but he sure can speak nonsense."

She mumbled. Rovenin was deep in thought.

Rovenin : " Sian..."

Carseain: "Yes?"

Rovenin: " Why did you go 'bam bam boom' in the first place?

Did it feel like that when you did it with a chant?"

Carseain : " No, it goes 'vroom , voom , weee' when I'm doing it with a chant too.

But when I first created small sparks it went 'bam, bam, boom ' so I thought it would be different for both cases. "

Askaneira was spellbound.

Rovenin : " I see. So, do you have to do this for every spell?"

Carseain : " No, the general pattern is the same for all spells. I just need to adjust where it goes ' baam ' and ' poom ' and a few other things and it's done! "

Askaneira : " Hey, wait didn't you say 'bam' is no good ?"

Rovenin : " ( Bam ) and  ( baam ) are different. "

Carseain: " That's right!"

Carseain said, frothing.

Askaneira speechlessly raised her brows.

Askaneira : ' It was me, right? I carried him for 9 months, right? '

Rovenin : "But I think I get it now. How you pulled it off."

Askaneira : " You can make sense out of nonsense! That's another talent you have."

She said, smiling.

For some reason, Carseain felt ticked. He looked at his mother like a money-laundering suspect.

Askaneira : " What happened, Sian?"

Carseain : " Were you making fun of me?"

Rovenin : 'His IQ drops by 100 when dealing with his mother or should I say he has blind faith?'

Askaneira gasped and she turned down. She averted her eyes and bit her lip.

Askaneira : " Do you really think I would do such a thing? Do you not love me?"

Carseain was taken aback. Guilt loomed over his face.

Rovenin glared at Askaneira.

Rovenin : ' And this woman shamelessly takes advantage of that. I bet she'll be the death of Sian's innocence.'

Askaneira: " I can't believe my son thinks of me like a woman who is jealous of her son's achievements. "

Rovenin : ' He didn't even mention jealousy though~'

Carseain burst out.

Carseain : " Hey stop now! I didn't mean it like that, okay? I'm sorry!"

Askaneira : " It's okay."

She said with a faint smile.

Rovenin : ' No,no it should be the other way round, Sian. She should apologize to you.'

Askaneira was quick to change the topic so that Carseain doesn't catch on.

" What did you understand, Rovey?"

"Ah... that's right!"

Everyone took a seat and he started explaining.

" Sian is viewing his body as an assembly of mechanical parts. To be exact, a device that runs magic. Well, he's not exactly wrong. Our body does work on electric signals sent by the brain. "

Askaneira was confused.

"Wait? Electric signals? Brain? My element is ice, not electricity."

Rovenin sighed deeply.

The discovery of the brain sending electrical signals throughout the body using neurons wasn't made. They believed it was the work of magic and didn't research further. However, Rovenin had his suspicions as the body is often paralysed when the head is hurt and it should recover from magic potions.

But it doesn't.

That left Rovenin with only two options.

One, that the magic was destroyed.

Two, that the brain was responsible.

The former was ruled out in many cases where paralyzed people were able to use magic.

Thus, it can be safely assumed that the magic circuit was fine.

Also, no matter how much you heal a paralyzed arm it didn't go back to normal.

So, he presumed that the problem didn't lie there.

This means the brain which was damaged was responsible for the paralysis.

Also, he concluded that electricity was the most possible and convenient way to establish communication between the body.

In terms of speed and probability.

It can't be water or blood for sure.

But he didn't have enough knowledge or proof to claim it.

He didn't have an interest as well. He wanted to be a magician, not a doctor.

Right now explaining all this to the Marchioness and Carseain seemed like a waste of time.

Rovenin : " Uhh... let's save that for some other time.

Back to Sian, but there's a major drawback to his approach.

Our body is a very intricately and meticulously entangled device, it's easy to get lost. If you even err once, the spell will fall apart. Sian probably pulled it off solely on instinct. It's the sort of thing you won't be able to get used to normally.".

Askaneira : " I see. That's why you insisted on letting us feel the flow numerous times so that our body remembers it."

Carseain was lost, the conversation was too complex for him.

Carseain : " Hey, Foxy! Speak Human language."

Askaneira : ' I think you should be taught the Human tongue again.'

Carseain was ignored.

Askaneira : " But does that mean Sian won't be able to do it for all types of spells? Only the ones he can fit into those 'patterns' can be cast."

Carseain : " What are you saying? Look at this ."

Carseain showed a number of spells that he cast with ease to them.

They looked at him in awe i.e respect + fear + surprise.

Rovenin : " Looks like his 'pattern' is much more generalized than we expected it to be."

Askaneira : " Didn't you say it was hard to get used to?"

Her tone was awkward when she saw her son casting spells like eating candy..

Rovenin: " Yup, 'normally' though."

Askaneira : " Surprisingly, My son turned out to be a genius."

Rovenin : " Let's just say he's got good instincts."

Askaneira : " Why?"

Rovenin had a glint in his eyes.

Rovenin : " Some animals are also capable of using Magic given their keen instincts."

Askaneira laughed heartily.

Askaneira : ' Just yesterday he was on the verge of a mental breakdown. I'm glad he's not mulling over it.'

Carseain suddenly had a thought.

Carseain : " Carrot-bro, if you don't use the approach I do, then how do you do it?"

Askaneira jumped in.

"Oh yes, I was curious too!*

They both had the same look- like a child's first time outside his residence.

Rovenin tilted his head a little and wore a very coy smile.

" I do it the way a true genius does. "

Their anticipation was met with a devastating truth.

Both of them took the exact same amount of time to spring back.

In the meantime, Rovenin was savouring their reactions behind a kind smile.

Before they could even start speaking, Rovenin said

" Do you even think you could understand even if I explain it? "

They pouted.

Rovenin : ' These are the times I can say, Like mother, like son.'

Suddenly, the door slammed open.

A woman in her late 30's barged in.

" My Lady"

She screamed.

"Martha?"

" Yes, it's me. Why are you in a training ground with those clothes?"

Carseain tilted his head and said,

"To train, of cou-"

Askaneira shut his mouth with her hand and took a sneak peek at Martha

She could see flames behind her.

" The Marquis told you to rest today yet you're here training at and making me search for you all in the mansion."

Carseain's mother tried hues behind him, who was times smaller in size than her.

Carseain suddenly felt the urge to protect her.

" Don't scold Mom!"

Martha's face was smiling now.

"Young Master, your mother is sick. If she moves around too much, she'll not be able to play with you."

Carseain's face went blue.

'Mother is sick, mother is hurt'

He suddenly turned back and held his mother in tears.

"Moomm`~ don't get hurt."

Martha stood behind Carseain with a Demonic smile.

"Now My Lady you've even made the Young Master cry... let's go..."

Askaneira cried.

"Noooo"

Rovenin : ' Am I sure that this place is one of the country's most prominent Noble houses? '
