The next day, at a café downstairs the Quin family's building.
Susan sat in a corner of the café with a pair of sunglasses. She ordered a cup of caramel macchiato. She took a sip and glanced at the door from time to time.
She looked at the time. Fifteen minutes had passed, but Brad had not appeared.
Susan felt a little irritated. He was obviously the one who had decided on the time and venue yesterday night. Now, he didn't say a word even though he was late.
Could it be that he wasn't coming anymore?!
Just when she was fidgeting, a man in a gray suit with a pair of gold-rimmed spectacles appeared at the door.
"Mr. Zachary."
"Hi, Mr. Zachary!"
There were quite a few employees who belonged to the Quin family in the café. When they saw him, they greeted him respectfully.
Susan saw this scene but didn't take much notice of it. She picked up her phone and was wondering if she should give Brad another call.
"Are you Miss Yates?"
The light around her dimmed suddenly. Susan turned her head and saw the man who had just entered standing by her table.
Susan politely stood up and removed her sunglasses. "I am. You are…?"
"Hi, Miss Yates. I'm Mr. Quin's special assistant, Hans Zachary. As Mr. Quin's meeting has not ended yet, he specially asked me to invite you over to our office upstairs to wait for a while."
Hans's face was gentle. A flash of surprise flashed past his eyes behind his spectacles.
"I see…" Susan nodded and put on her sunglasses again. She said politely, "I'll have to trouble Mr. Zachary then!"
"No trouble at all. Just call me Hans!"
…
When Susan came to Brad's exclusive office, she immediately shuddered as soon as she entered.
Was the temperature in the room only eighteen degrees celsius?
It was too cold.
She wore an ordinary T-shirt and jeans today. It wasn't considered a cooling outfit, but her back still shivered due to the cold wind in the room.
After Susan sat down, Hans politely handed her a glass of water. "Miss Yates, please wait for a while."
"Thank you."
After Hans closed the door and left, Susan slowly sized up the interior of the office.
Sunlight poured in from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The office furniture made of pure solid wood wasn't cheap. The file cabinet on the left featured a dazzling array of beautiful exhibits. The color combination of the room was simple and elegant. It wasn't the mundane combination of black-white-gray that other CEOs used.
Susan's gaze fell on his desk and she accidentally saw a photo frame.
She couldn't help but sit up straight. Brad was a man who kept a low profile. He would actually put a photo frame on his desk?
Although she had never interacted with him before, based on the quick glance yesterday, she could feel that the man had a restrained and introverted character.
The office was so quiet that only the operating sounds of the central air conditioner could be heard. The more Susan looked at it, the more curious she felt. She got up and walked towards the desk.
Three steps… two… one…
She stood by the desk and blinked. She stretched out a finger and tried to change the position of the photo frame when at this moment…
With a click, the door opened.
Susan's eyelids jumped and she stopped her hand movements. She subconsciously looked towards the door.
Brad was dressed in a black shirt and trousers. His suit jacket was casually placed on his arm, and he opened the door in a straight and impressive-looking manner.
He looked at Susan, who was in his office, and seemed to be momentarily surprised. His gaze followed her movement and stopped at the desk.
The man raised his eyebrows slightly. His deep eyes were sharp. He pursed his thin lips slightly and stared at her.
Susan's heartbeat sped up and she retracted her hand in embarrassment. She lied through her teeth and said, "I… I saw that your photo frame was pretty. Where did you buy it from?"
