Chapter 20 - Baby's day

No matter how common the attribute points he gained from doing daily tasks were, Tobi doubted that if he increased his overall stats too high, that he wouldn't be able to shy away from being seen with suspicion, noticing something strange about him wouldn't be harder than squatting a fly.

Tobi was now more and more cautious, since he was afraid of being killed, after all, he doubted he knew this family well enough to understand their thoughts since he was once again scared of dying because of something silly he didn't want to leave any reasons, that might put his life at risk.

Just like that, almost three weeks had passed.

Once she finished dressing, Christy wrapped Tobi up making it impossible for him to move. Then she placed him into her wrapper sash on her back, using it as a baby cradle so that she could easily handle him without moving both of her hands and could exert minimum strength when working.

She had decided it was time to make their morning breakfast before Christopher starts his busy day again and at the very least finish some work of hers before finally feeding Tobi.

Christy walked through the door and arrived at the doorpost that led to the dining room.

Before Walking out of the small bedroom, she could slightly hear a light childish sob, ahead of her at the right corner of the dining room.

Just as she heard the sob, she hastened her walking pace before arriving at the dining room.

It was a small room which was constructed with brick walls, like every other part of the house except it had a meter-long dining table made from finely trimmed woods, and four wooden chairs occupying every side of the square-shaped table.

With a wooden cabinet and cupboards, arranged at the side of the room.

On a closer inspection, after her arrival, she realized it was her older daughter, Ada who was sobering.

"Ada? what in God's name happened? Why are you crying?" Christy kept a solemn look on her face, trying as much as possible not to lash out in a fit of rage, since she might have already gotten a clue from what might have transpired.

Ada paused for a moment, her face brimming with both snort and tears as she turned around and stared at her with a dejected look.

"Mother? it's nothing I just hurt my leg that's all." Ada stuttered while she tried her best putting on a happy expression on her face.

Christy knowing what might have happened was very worried that she immediately knelt down to inspect her child's body, afraid they might have given her a bruise or something.

"But, mothe...," Ada tried to explain herself, but her words got stuck in her mouth, from Christy's tender voice that left no room for a reply.

"I know it those villagers again, was it because they called your brother a demon again?" Even though Christy was trying to make herself, appear calm the tears at the corner of her eyes weren't keeping up with her act.

Ada slightly nodded, as Christy gently cleaned the snorts and tears from her face.

"Silly girl, they are just lying and are all bad people. If he truly was a demon, he would have gouged out our souls when we slept. But see he didn't." The look on Christy's face showed only concerned, as she brought her little daughter in an embrace.

Ada, together with her younger sister Belle, was what was left of her children after a tragic incident years ago.

Christy comforted her while cleaning up own her teary eyes.

Tobi was flabbergasted, he had never seen this side of his family before, this could be said to be the first time witnessing his sister or mother cry or acted the way they were doing currently, and it made him felt he was the reason behind it, especially after Christy had mentioned"A Demon"

'What have I done?' Tobi thought, as his heart went through a weird circle of pain he could barely describe, was this because he was seeing his sister and mother cry? Was it because he might have something to do it? he didn't know why but he felt hurt and wanted to comfort them.

"Sorry sister and mother," He said inwardly trying to comfort her, but what came out was baby babble words

'Eyah ehh'

Turning their heads to the side, both Ada and Christy realized Tobi was staring at them, as he tried reaching out his little hands in an attempt to touch Ada. Christy gently, removed Tobi from the wrapper sash on her back, before lifting him towards Ada.

Tobi tried as much as possible, to put a smile on their faces, but he realized the best he could do at this point, was make raspberry sounds, and slowly he used his little hands in wiping out the little leftover tear beneath Ada's eyes.

Ada couldn't help but giggle, his raspberry sounds made her smiled more, seeing his sister's mood better Tobi continued.

"You see, your brother loves you very much," Christy said with a smile as she patted Ada's head, while she sent her to open the windows lock, to let the dawn light in while she prepared breakfast for everyone.

However, while everyone was preoccupied with their various duties, no one realized the heated gaze Tobi had.

Christy took several vegetables on top of the wooden cabinet and proceeded to chop them into small fine pieces with a knife. Some looked familiar to Tobi, like water leaf and pumpkin, while the others were all a mystery.

At first, the idea of having such breakfast almost made Tobi cry, then he remembered he was still a baby not older than eighteen days old and as yet to grow any set of teeth. Which meant it was unlikely to be fed, anything but Christy's milk.

In his previous life vegetables weren't his favorites.

Christy made some veggies small and big size then she poured water, before anything else inside a copper pot that had the shape of pill cauldron, and with the help of Ada, they proceeded to make a charcoal stove inside an underground hole. Where she made a fire out of it to cook their breakfast.

Both Tobi and Ada had two different moods, for him it was like watching a cooking show, even in his previous life he would rarely watch it except he was bored and had nothing else to do.

For Bell, it was one of few reasons for a woman's pride. Though cooking was common, a delicious meal was a bit difficult, every time Christy cooked it all seems like wonders and magic to her. It was like watching a cooking pro.

"You are so amazing, Mother!" Ada was always filled with awe and admiration, which made her feel euphoria any time Christy gave her the opportunity to watch her while cooking.

"When will I ever be as good as you mother?" Ada added with anticipation.

"Of course, when you finally become a grown woman" Christy replied with a smile but inwardly added 'After 15 years of cooking and chopping every single day.
