Chapter 7 - Turn-around

There was nothing left, not a glimmer of hope as everyone looked at each other's day. They had already accepted fate; there seemed no way out now. "Amy, what do we do now? I look around and see. It appears to be that no one has any hopes left on their faces. I think we have lost the game for sure." One of Amy's closest teammate Hailey spoke to her about how devastated the faces of their teammates are at the moment.

"What are you guys doing? Weren't you the ones to tell me that I would restore all of our beliefs if I entered the pitch? Do you all not believe in yourself even a little after all these months? I'm not a god, and I'm just a werewolf just like all of us here!!!"

"I'm sorry that I'm only average, but I'm good only because I believe in myself, which all of you here lack. I don't want to win anymore, I'm tired. I want all of you to stop relying on me as though I'm some god who would miraculously save all of us. I just want all of you to play, forget about winning."

Amy's words were like a pinch of salt rubbing on their wounds, but it was the truth. They relied heavily on Amy, and the team didn't speak a word because they were hurt. Although they were hurt, they realised the truth in what Amy had said to them. It was as though they were retrospecting themselves during the game.

"Oh, poor you, just because you didn't do anything going berserk on your teammates and blaming them for not believing themselves. Some captain you are; I don't understand what the whole hype was about you going around this year across the country. Rather than blaming your teammates, it would be best if you were blaming yourself because, to me, it seems as though you're here only because of your whole team, there's nothing special about you. It'll be a proud moment for our University to shut out all the noise going around about you." Faith University was back at mocking Amy, firing every shot at Amy through words that would make her overthink the situation she put her team into after conceding the second goal. She started to assume that what she told was not the best thing that should be told by a captain, just as soon as they conceded a goal that would have brought their morale down.

Things go bad to worse real quick. It was precisely the situation Inkford was suffering from, life didn't seem to catch a break for them. It continued to pour all over them for as long as it could, they just had to suffer through it and live with it. As it would not rain forever, it could never be in the worst situation forever, and things always seemed to get better over time.

"Amy, come here. Please calm down, think before you take action or before you speak. Observe yourself whenever you tell something. Notice that if it is your true self who want to say the things you're saying, or is it your ego forcing you to say it due to circumstances that aren't in your favour."

Amy is physically exhausted. She started to feel the pain of her ankle because she had begun to think rather than focusing on what's in front of her. She was losing every battle inside her head and body and losing the match on the field.

Elly, the coach, was looking away. She could see it happening to their team after such a good year they've had, but all of a sudden, there was a massive cheer from the crowd. Elly thought the game was over and would persist in looking at her devasted students faces with disappointment after conceding a goal, it is what she thought. As someone barged into her from behind, Amy hugged the coach.

"Coach... Thank you for putting me in today; for sure, we are winning this."

Hope had finally begun to creep into the Inkford University team's mind as they scored a goal in the 70th minute of the game.

"I apologize to all of you for saying all the things I said before. It was the truth, but I'm sorry if I hurt you. For now and for today, please let me be your God today. Please continue to believe in me, and please continue to do your best. I want all of you to help me today, and I need all of you the most today."

Something ignited Amy's spirit; she felt unstoppable at the moment. All of a sudden, there was a momentum shift in the game. Everything is going in their favour, and everything had finally seemed to synchronize at the latter stage of the game.

Before the kick-off began after Inkford University scored their first goal Amy screamed at the top of her voice, " It's not too late, It's never too late."
