Chapter 7 - If only

If only those happy memories weren't just memories. If only that golden age of happiness and laughter would last. But no matter how much he wished he could, he could never change the past.

Eli sighed, a tear in his eye, before he heard the familiar sound of a notification from his phone.

I'm bored. Anyone in the mood to call?

He let out a soft chuckle, leaping on his bed in excitement. He could never refuse an invitation to chat with Atere. Pleased, he typed back his signature response.

When he hopped into the call, he was created by a familiar voice.

"Oh, hi Eli! Can you hear me?" Atere asked.

"Sure."

"Okay. I'm drawing Inor right now, let me just stream."

"Alright, I'll try t-"

"JESSICA!" his mother screamed from below.

He muttered, clearly dismayed. "Sorry Atere, my mom is calling, I have to go. Maybe we can call when I get back? Do you want me to notify you?"

"Sounds good, bye bye!"

Reluctantly, he got up from his plush bed, groaning as he did so. How had he not noticed the ache in his back? But that wouldn't matter once he met his mother downstairs. Who knows what she had to say.
