As the tarr laid waste ahead, Jamal looked around making sure the area was clear. Surprisingly, much of the action was happening on the other side of town, as he could see tarrs firing their shells onto their forces. But little resistance where the experienced force was. Watching his side, he could see some of the rebels with him firing behind a wall of a house, before quickly get back to cover when shots were returned.
"Some of you stay here, the rest come with me. We're going to push up a bit." he told them, as they quickly rushed up behind another house several yards away.
As they ran across the space, several shots rang out behind Jamal, as he heard a cry behind him. Once he reached cover, he looked behind to see a fallen rebel trying to crawl towards him. Before Jamal could get the chance to get him, multiple shots lit the body up, and like that he was gone.
"Continue pushing," he stayed focused, as the battle continued to rage.
Several hours later, and much had changed. Tarrs and bodies were littered everywhere, as Jamal was fighting two brutes by himself. These were much tougher than the ones in the last town, he noted, as he sliced the side of one of them, causing it to roar in fury, before slamming him through a building. Jamal spat out blood in pain, as he steadied himself up, before realizing they were charging towards him.
Hobbling out the hole, he laid a hand onto the building to steady himself as he fired multiple fireballs towards them. The brutes seemed unfazed as they lumbered towards him to no effect. Jamal began to back away until a shot rang out and one of the brutes fell down. He looked behind him to see a woman grinning at him holding a rifle.
Impressed, he looked back ahead to see the other living brute ready to smash him with his fists. But he was quicker as he kicked the being in the stomach, causing it to back up a bit. With his remaining momentum, he leaped up above him, as he created his signature blade of fire, before penetrating it deep into its throat. The brute gargled in pain, before it too collapsed onto the ground.
Jamal wiped his mouth before staring down the street. There were still a good amount of soldiers around and even a few tarrs, but the work here was being done. He nodded back at the woman that possibly saved his life, before continued moving towards the remnants of the army left here.
.....
Jamal dropped the dead man he was holding up, panting. It was nightfall by the time they finished the last remaining forces continuing to fight, before the few soldiers left surrendered. They've lost around forty rebels in this attack, but it was worth it. At least the resistance would live for a bit longer, he grinned, and I get to go home.
"Hey, can we talk?" a soldier moved towards him.
"Yeah, we did well today. You guys have a chance now to win this maybe. Really by ambushing these forces you'll have a chance." Jamal gladly patted the soldier's shoulder.
"No, you don't remember me from inside the room with Beai?" he questioned.
"What's the matter?" Jamal wondered.
"Beai lied to you about the efforts getting home."
"I know the travel will be har-" Jamal began to say.
"She didn't tell you that Suruthum was under attack. She wanted you to stay here."
Jamal just stood in silence. What did he just hear?
"I must have heard wrong? You said what?"
"Youden is attacking Suruthum."
