Youden took in a deep breath of the smoky air. It smelt terrible and forced out a cough, but he quickly recovered and eyed ahead. It had been a month since the beginning of the capture of Saputa City, and about seventy-five percent of it was under his control. He thought it would have been easier to get all of the city in control by now, but of course, the Saputan army wouldn't give up that easily. They had gone ahead and began to fortify a section of the city before they even reached the outskirts and had finally finished once they had twenty percent of the metropolis. But Youden knew it wouldn't be long until it too fell.
He was perched inside a building about two blocks away, as a tarr moved out of a big alley and began moving its turret towards one of the gates ahead. Youden watched as it fired a shot ahead, a direct hit, before some type of alarm was heard, and multiple powers were being used upon it, forcing it to back up into the alley again. Youden sighed with shame. Supposedly his generals were going to do a full-on attack on the compound and take it out once and for all, as they didn't have "enough" forces to do so. Now, he could have taken care of it himself, but he needed to see if they were hiding any valuable information inside. It could be of use later.
"Sir, look at this!" a soldier residing with him pointed out.
Looking down, Youden could see hundreds of his soldiers rushing down the street, taking cover behind buildings before firing their taboons or using their powers on the gates. Even a few tarrs slowly crept up and began their barrage as well. It was a sight for the ages.
The Saputan Troops didn't even fight back, and as the damage was becoming more noticeable, a quick screech was heard from their direction, before the gate opened and a soldier carried a white flag. They began cheering, but Youden was confused. Why surrender that easily, after all this time? Something was off.
"This isn't right. They wouldn't give up so easily. What's the catch here?" he said, getting up.
Luckily at that moment, one of his scouts came barging into the room, wheezing for breath.
"Sir, sir, they're hiding explosives in the buildings!" he managed to mutter, almost collapsing.
"Where?" Youden asked quickly, grabbing him to steady himself.
"By the troops. I think they're about to blow the whole section away."
Youden rushed up to the window, as he could barely see the soldier that came out of the fortified section enter the remains of a housing complex. This was not good, and many of his troops were about to die because of it. Why didn't they scout the area more thoroughly before going through with this?
"Someone tell them what's going on!" he managed to shout before that part of the city exploded, throwing him back into the wall from the force.
