Gulping, Jamal slid down, as the knife lightly sliced his cheek. Moving underneath him, he ran out to the exit and saw a pair of soldiers in the distance. Waving his hands around so they could see him, he began to cry for help.
"Hey, someone is trying to kill me!" he yelled at the top of his lungs.
The pair turned around, to see Chenji rush behind with a pair of knives in his hands. Jamal quickly ran past them, and before they could even make out what was going on, they both had a knife sticking deep inside them, bleeding to death on the ground.
Cursing himself for being vulnerable, he realized that he was nearing the hotel, but going inside would lead him to the rest of them, including Ula. Not willing to risk that, he moved past the hotel, as there were still people standing around waiting for news on Boom. Weaving there, he watched as Chenji was pushing people out of his way, still moving straight to him. At the rate this was going, he was going to have to actually fight back if he wanted to hold him back.
Continuing his move, he eyed a building that looked like it would collapse any minute. It was a miracle it was still standing, but today would be its day. Forming a quick fireball, he fired at a loose wooden beam, igniting on fire. He didn't watch, as it began to creak, before collapsing onto the road behind. Smiling, he looked behind, only to see Chenji jump above it, undisturbed.
"Ah, this is a joke now," Jamal said, turning around and stopping.
With only a month of recovering, he yelled with might, his body turning into fire.
"I'll end this stupidness now," he said, pointing a blast the size of a one-story building at him.
"You do that, you'll kill all those people behind me." Chenji laughed.
"Which is why I'll be aiming at you only," Jamal whispered, already behind him without Chenji noticing, the fireball only a speck in his hand.
"Wait, ho-" Chenji began to say before a large explosion blew up where he just was, and Jamal moving back instantly.
Getting out of his form, he watched, as the fire began to spread to other already destroyed buildings as the entire block would soon be on fire. Looking around and climbing over the rubble from the building he collapsed, he saw people look in his direction, and he just pointed behind him, pretending that the person doing all that damage was past the fire.
Since most people didn't even see what had happened, they just stood back watching, as Jamal moved between them. Finally, he had reached the hotel, and refusing to look back, he reached the courtyard and opened the door, it luckily open.
"You're back. I heard an explosion." Ula rushed towards him and hugged him.
"Yeah, finished what I needed to." he smiled as well.
"Yeah, but your body is burning. Like literally. Were you in a form or something?"
"No, it was the explosion. Someone careless using their powers. But I was nowhere near it."
"If you say so. Jamal, it's been dangerous out there, but once we're out of the city, we can start a new life."
"Yeah, a new life, I guess." he grinned.
"No, I don't think you get it. Like, Jamal, I've been thinking lately, and I-" she began to stutter.
Just when he was about to get the question, a knock on the door was heard, and through the window, Jamal could see it was Brat.
"Oh, your back. Can I see Ula?" Brat said, ignoring him.
"Sure, go ahead. I'll just be outside." Jamal answered, letting him in.
Watching them from the outside, he felt his cheek as he remembered it nearly being sliced, but luckily it seemed that it was only a graze. Taking a deep breath, he was just glad he was still alive, and he would live another day, at least for now. That was something to look forward to.
