It actually took quite a long time and a lot of trial and error before they could really start assigning different functions to each one of their consciousnesses. It was the kind of discovery that got more exciting the more they tried. That propelled them to keep experimenting until, finally, they climbed all the way to the top of the chain.
It turns out the chain was long, very long. Shin estimated they had climbed at least 25 or 30 metres straight up before reaching the cave ceiling. A fall from that height would kill them for sure.
"This is one sturdy chain," Shinja said. "I guess we shouldn't be surprised it is well attached, considering it was holding your weight all that time. How are we feeling?"
