Chapter 44 - Getting into the portal number 1 continues

When Helen is finally out of their sight.

"That woman is terrorizing my peace!"

Isabel loudly exclaimed.

"What do you mean?"

Amy turns and looked her way.

"She knocked on my door last night when I was about to check on Cindy."

She lied about visiting Cindy. But continued on her ranting.

"Although, it's basically my fault why she went in, I invited her and told her to feel at home."

But that was just a polite thing to do, and she should refuse.

She realized she hated Helen because it interrupted her Ouija moment with that kid.

Cindy and Amy stared at each other.

"Alright, never mind. I just don't like her, let's go get the steak!."

Even if Cindy doubted her, Amy's attention span luckily shifts as soon as she mentioned another topic.

A few moments later, Helen spotted them and went in their direction in hurried steps.

"What are we having?"

She asked in a hyped tone.

"Kebab and falafel."

Cindy said, trying to match Helen's hype. Seems like these two didn't have a problem with Helen.

So Isabel shut her mouth and quietly observed. She thought, isn't it odd? She is acting weird when they're alone, but a different person when there's someone around them.

A few more seconds, the mellow music that she had heard before cut her stream of thoughts. That sound is something she has heard before.

"Let's eat in the entertainment circle." She is referring to the circular platform at the grove where the musicians play their instruments.

"Why? I thought we're having a food showdown in my house," Cindy pouted.

But Isabel knew Liz was communicating with her through the harp.

"Okay, you guys go ahead. I'll get us some more food. I'm friends with the meat guy hehehe." She tried to imitate how passionate Amy was with the munchies.

"Oh, my god! That guy is the grumpy dwarf in Snow White!" Amy's eyes were double enlarged by her glasses.

"I've been trying to talk to him so he can cut a huge chunk of meat for me, but it's as if he's deaf." It's her way of congratulating Isabel for making friends with a difficult-to-talk person.

"Okay, that sounds good! We'll go ahead." Even if Cindy's brows creased, not buying her alibi, but she looked her in the eyes. They had a certain understanding that Amy doesn't notice.

"I'll come with Isabel." Helen volunteered.

Damn it! She's not a cursing type of person, but she thinks Helen is bringing the worst out of her.

Never mind, she didn't have time and Helen has no idea what's happening on the Island, anyway.

Her friends called someone to pick them up and went back to Cindy's house without her.

When they're no longer around. She runs toward the circular platform; she took a shortcut and went across the wisteria fields.

It would have been magical if she's not in a hurry. She pushes the canopy of flowers away from her face towards the circle.

"Hey, isn't this far away from the food cottages?"

Oh, snap! She forgot about Helen.

"I have to talk to someone, it's very important. Can you wait for me at those tables?"

She looks like she's pleading.

"Okay." Helen is comparable to an aunt that was trying hard to catch up with the trend and gets close to people twice younger than her age.

Upon hearing the word okay, she sighs in relief.

"But who will you talk to?"

And she never failed to irritate, Isabel thought.

"None of your business." She snaps. But realized that technically this aunt wannabe did nothing wrong with her.

"I mean business, yes! I have a business with this person."

That was the least convincing explanation. Who would have a business deal when you're dying? But she crosses her fingers.

"Okay!" She said in a singsong voice.

"As long as it's not a monkey business, hehehe." Who said aunts can't say Dad jokes?

Isabel made a fake laugh in response.

"What the he-" Helen didn't finish her sentence. She did an overtake on her and made a not-so-nice call to Liz.

"You!" She looked furious and confrontational towards the woman, who is gently playing her harp.

It stunned Isabel. Did they know each other?

"And you, what are you doing here?" Liz answered with an equally combative tone.

"I live on this Island, and you should not be here any longer!" Helen crosses her arms, subconsciously intimidated by Liz's presence.

"Not on this side of the Island! You're not allowed here." Liz's eyes narrowed, making Helen look more terrified. She backed out.

Isabel's eyes shifts back from Helen and Liz having a creepy conversation.

"Well, I'm only here because I have to train the new guardian." Aunt wannabe pointed at Isabel.

"I will train her," Liz said, standing up. She became taller suddenly.

"You're can't train her, you're not a guardian." Helen stubbornly shook her head.

"Had you done your purpose well, I should be and still the guardian today!" Liz steps out and pushes Helen's chest with her index finger.

Okay, Isabel thought, it's unnecessary. The argument goes on, however.

Annoying aunt's stance shifted from antagonistic to remorseful.

"It's bound to happen, her in this Island should happen, but you should move on." Helen's Karen-like voice has completely turned to sorrow.

"Like I wanted to," Liz said and walked away towards Isabel. And then stop in front of her, gently touched her face.

"The new guardian here will also deliver the Anunnaki in this realm." She said, her voice almost whispering.

"I am an Anunnaki!" Helen exclaimed indignantly.

"Yeah, a stupid one," Harp lady answered bluntly.

"How dare you!" She stomps her right foot. And the weather unexpectedly changed, a group of dark clouds gathered in one area threatening heavy rain.

Liz laughed hard, tilting her head backward and holding her stomach.

"Come on! You can't scare me with party tricks, Mairang!"

Isabel can't help it anymore. She still has friends waiting for her, even if there's an info dump of the supernatural in front of her.

"Uhm, excuse me, can someone give me a crash course on what's going on? I know you two have an immortal combat, but-" She stared at her wristwatch.

"My friends are expecting me to return and I might have trouble explaining it took me a while because two unexplainable beings argued."
