Chapter 8 - Leaving the forest

Year 1519

Its finally time to leave the forest and while Diesel enjoys training towards strength more than anyone, if he doesnt use that strength it becomes worthless. This is the year Ace sets off and he takes a year to reach the grandline. Then three years later luffy takes off he however doesnt take long to reach the grandline. So he doesnt mess much with the plot he plans to mostly stay in luffys wake or a couple steps ahead depending on the situation. He has three years to clean up the blues before heading to the new world.

During this last year he managed to finish mastering ryuo and he finally understood why so few people know how to use it. "It's a massive pain in the ass to teach yourself how to use it. That said I still figured it out even though it took FOREVER" Diesel muttered. He didn't realize that if any of the people who tried to learn it heard him, they most likely would have immediately been so infuriated that they died on the spot, as most weren't able to master ryuo before they died. Yet Diesel managed to do it before he turned twenty.

He was also able to master future site and combine it with his ability to hear souls from his devil fruit in combat. He had originally planned on focusing mostly on his devil fruit abilities but he felt that ryuo would be easier to train in this environment without people all over the place bothering him. So he finished the haki training he was currently working on and now only had two things (that he knew of as there might be more haki abilities later on that we haven't seen yet) left to work on. Getting used to his devil fruit and figuring out how to coat himself with conquerors haki.

As he is now hes fairy sure he could fight Garp or Sengoku with no problems so hes hit his goal. While Fenrir isn't quite as strong as Diesel, hes still fairly certain he could kill Aokiji or Akainu. Borsalino would be a bit tricky considering the ridiculous speed he moves at but he shouldn't be able to harm him with his already sturdy body coated in armament.

With all that in mind its time to leave the forest. Hes lived here for fifteen years now and itd be a lie to say he wouldn't miss it, but it was time to move on. He called Fenrir over and together they packed up what was going with them, a few pairs of animal fur clothes, some ornamental bone knives Diesel had made to use when bored over the years, and a LOT of smoked meat. They had to make a wooden cart for Fenrir to pull where they could carry all the meat and it still barely fit. Considering the cart was made for a massive wolf that was over twenty feet tall it was a rather impressive load but Diesel and Fenrir were both huge and required a lot of food so it was enough to last a week if need be.

After everything was packed up and ready to go he glanced at their camp they had built one last time and they set off for Newport village. It was the closest and he wanted to let the doctor from all those years ago know he was still alive and hadn't gotten eaten like most probably would've. Diesel also wanted to visit Sister Vanessa's grave one last time before he left as he wasn't planning on coming back.

Eventually they reached and broke through the edge of the forest. Everything was exactly as Diesel remembered it, so they started walking towards the church since it was the closest. No one was there so they walked toward the small cemetery at the back and stopped

in front of a single headstone. "This may very well be the last time I'm here so I've come to say goodbye, and thank you for everything."

With that he turned and left but he wasn't sad or down. He knew she was in a better place doing what she loved so he was at ease and excited to finally set off. As they started going into town someone finally seen them and immediately started shrieking like a banshee "MONSTER!!!!!!! THERES A SAVAGE AND HIS PET MONSTER INVADING THE TOWN!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Diesel had just been about to ask if anyone was leaving towards a city wear he could start bounty hunting to get some money when this crazy chick looked at him and freaked out. "What a rude lady I'll have you know Fenrir has far better manners than you, he would never just randomly call someone a savage or a monster after just glancing at them. You should be ashamed of yourself you hateful hag" Diesel said.

The lady finally stopped screaming and looked terrified as he had called her out. By this point most of the people in the village had come out and given everything they had heard, the appearance of a man almost four times their height, and a huge wolf just hanging out at the edge of the village. They assumed he was some kind of bandit which royally pissed him off. He didn't want to cause a problem though so he decided to clear up this misunderstanding.

"ALL OF YOU SHUT UP FOR A MINUTE!!! Is the doctor from fifteen years ago still here in this village?" Diesels voice thundered across the village so everyone heard him well. Everyone was immediately confused, trying to figure out how the doc had angered a bandit but then he came to the front of the crowd. "I dont know what I've done to offend you but I hope you can at least spare the village." said the doctor.

Diesel just sighed in irritation and said "I just wanted to let you know I survived the forest, since I haven't been back in fifteen years I figured you thought I died."

"...."

"huh?"

After a few moments of standing there confused he took another look at me. It took him a little while but when he noticed my silver hair and eyes I could see he realized who I was. "Diesel!? Everyone thought you were so depressed when Sister Vanessa died that you went into the forest to commit suicide. A few of us looked all over the outskirts and never did find you, how the hell did you survive!?" It would appear I was partially right, the doctor thought I died.

"I was in the center of the forest and didn't have a reason to leave as I had everything I needed." He was rather proud of this because most would have died within a month. "I've decided to leave here and become a bounty hunter, are there any ships leaving for a bigger city soon?"

The doctor looked shocked but glanced at my size and my sidekick and thought I might do ok. "Theres only one merchant here that's planning to leave soon and you'll need to hurry as hes supposed to be leaving now. Are you sure you-"

"Thanks for the info doc glad your doing alright but I gotta go then. Take care." The doc was merely an acquaintance so he didn't feel bad cutting off then bolting if it meant he could start his journey immediately. Diesel and Fenrir ran through the little village and onto the dock where they saw a decent sized ship about to take off. "Oi if you give us a ride to the next big city your going to we'll agree to guard your ship if its attacked. We also brought our own food so you dont have to feed us."

The guy looked like he heard this a lot and was about to turn us down till he looked at us and almost shit his pants. 'It looks like my size will make things like this a lot easier in the beginning when I dont have a rep. Fenrir

is also rather terrifying as hes a little taller at the shoulder than my twenty feet so he outweighs me by a lot to.'

"That beast wont eat us will he? If not then ur welcome aboard." The guy looked kinda scared but also kinda happy he'd have bodyguards this trip.

Diesel just looked at Fenrir and smiled. "You ready partner?" He just wagged his tail and hoped on the ship cart and all and looked back as if to say 'let's go already'. So he jumped on the boat to and just looked at the sea in front of him as they set off, not realizing that decades later this day would go down in history as the day a legend first began.
