Joan and her mother came out of her father's hospital room looking depressed.
"How is he?" Steve's mother asked them, the moment she saw them walking back into the reception.
Steve's mom and his sister Lilian had both arrived when Joan and her mother were still both inside her father's room.
"Hmm, he is sleeping now," Joan's mom replied with a tired sigh. Steve's mother came closer to her and pulled her in for a hug.
"He is going to be fine," Steve's mom said.
"I really want to believe you. The man I saw in there doesn't believe he is going to be fine. He seems to have accepted his fate," Joan's mother said, with her eyes welled up.
"We don't have to give up hope," Steve's mother said. And Joan's mother nodded slowly before they both went to sit down.
They all remained in the hospital with Joan and her mother all through that night.
