One morning after having breakfast, Joan was in the kitchen doing the dishes when her mother walked in.
"Why didn't you leave them for Amaka to wash?" Her mother asked her. Amaka was their house girl.
"I wanted to do something to distract myself," Joan replied.
Her mother pulled out a stool that was in the kitchen and sat down, as she watched Joan do the dishes. It's been two weeks since she got married and she was yet to spend time with her husband as she has been with them since the day of her wedding.
"Yinka when are you going back to your home?" Her mother asked her.
Joan turned around to look at her mother, "Mummy what do you mean? Isn't this my home?" Joan asked her mother.
"No, Yinka. You have another home now and it is with your husband."
Joan tried interrupting her mother, "But mummy...."
