Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 - Buying Slaves

Cain walk out of the capital south gate and on to the military training field. Bergen request to use the military field as temporary slave market have been approved by Duke Grom. The vast military field have become like a huge refugee camp where many slave merchant from the continent gather to fulfil Cain demand for slave. The makeshift tent and iron cage strewn across the field in an orderly way while he can hear the shouting of the Slave Drivers with their whips scratched the body of an orc slave.

After asking the guard, they take him to the biggest tent in the field where Papas friend the big slave trader gather. After entering the tent Cain can see Papas and there are 25 other people in the tent. Welcome your majesty, papas come to Cain's front and kneel in front of him while the other slave trader bow their head as a sign of respect. As a businessman they don't mind bowing their head to a teenager prince as long as they can profit from the deal.

Welcome all of you, after exchanging pleasantries, Cain sit in the middle of the tent and ordered Papas to begin the meeting. The meeting took more than an hour with each trader list the batch of slave they bring and their offering price, Cain readily accept them all of them but reject or negotiate with the one that he thinks the price is too high. After finishing the deal and contract Cain has to pay 3.2 million gold coins for all the slave that he buys. He buy more than five million variant slaves, what Cain didn't expect was that due to his action, the price of slave across the continent increase significantly. Initially, the price of an ordinary variant races cost only 10 silver coin and with that amount Cain can buy 10 million slave with only 1 million gold coin but the reality is different due to his request for a large amount of slaves, the price of slave increase to almost 5 times the initial price since the supply of slaves in the continent diminished suddenly. For example, the price of an orc slave increase from 1 gold coin to almost 5 gold coin per head since Cain states that he will buy all the orc slaves they bring at a premium price.

He does not mind the increase in price since he just robbed Duke Mallory secret vault and his intention was to give the variant races a place to call home even though the morality of his method is questionable since he does not know how many variant races hunted and their villages burned by the slave trader due to his request for slaves. He can only choose this method as the quickest way since if the civil war already starts, the nation border will be closed and most merchant will avoid coming to Vertalis kingdom due to the war. The slave market will be rare since every nobles will use every available hands they have to maintain their territory but the food price will increase significantly and the consequence would be famine across the Kingdom.

Now Cain realized something, he doesn't know how to pay so many gold coins to the slave merchant since the money he has is "Illegal" in a sense. The transaction is in a million gold coins and he will have to use more than ten carriages to put all that money. He cannot suddenly conjure the money out of thin air in front of everyone, the words will spread and they will know that he is the thief that stole Duke Mallory vault.

Hmmm… after consulting Lambda, he request Papas to provide him an empty huge tent to prepare for the payment. Papas happily obliged as long as he can receive his money quickly. After the tent was set up, Cain stood alone in the empty ten while he send Deus to request Bergen to send ten empty carriages to the tent. After the empty carriages arrived Cain then call all the slave traders one by one for the payment, he would pretend to take the gold coin from the tent while the truth he takes it from his true rune space storage. The Slave traders already blinded from all the shining old coins all busy counting their own gold, they also bring their own magic carriage to move the gold coins. The transaction almost took one day since they have to count their money manually one by one. Cain feeing very tired from moving a huge amount of gold coins swears that he will create a bank in his territory one day.

The next day Cain already head to the big tent to meet all the traders to discuss the transportation of the slave to his territory. When he enters the tent all the slave traders greet him with a big smile as if he is their family, Cain also put up a friendly façade for them since he still need their help to gather more slaves before the war.

"Prince Cain since you are officially one of our biggest client, we would like to invite you to attend the Slave Auction in the merchant confederation next week. There we will have the biggest collection of "premium slaves" that you may be interested from the princess of a fallen kingdom to a lost mermaid. " Papas put out a black Card with a specially made materials.

"This is the invitation card, royalty all across the continent and powerful nobles will attend the auction. You don't have to worry since your identity will be kept as a secret and this auction is legal since it is officially approved by the parliament. You also may be able to find unique slaves that match your taste, I heard that Rosenberg Kingdom Calamity Princess will be auctioned over there.

Nodded, Cain thanks Papas while going back to the castle. Bergen already send his subordinate from the royal secretary to discuss the delivery arrangement of the slaves to Verzia territory. Cain has heard about the Calamity Princess, rumour said that she is so smart that she serves as the military strategist for the Rosenberg Kingdom but due to treachery from inside and vastly outnumbered by the enemy on the outside, the Rosenberg Kingdom eventually get destroyed and all the royal family killed. "Who would have thought that the princess has been captured and reduced to slave" Cain thought inwardly. He already plan to attend the auction in hope of finding a decent subordinate that he can trust.
