On the next morning, Adam was full of energy. He was humming lightly and had a bright smile on his face. He was ready. It was the first morning when Emily didn't came to wake him up. He thought maybe she's too excited about all this like him.
As Adam came down , he saw Emily who was really calm and had a face which only said determination. Adam didn't approached her as it was almost time to leave. Although he wanted to go together with Emily but he avoided it. Adam saw the look on Emily's face and thought leaving her alone was his best option.
The letter said to assemble at the centre of the city before the first light of the sun. When Adam reached the place. It was really different than usual. There was a large crowd of youngsters gathered there. Everyone was around the same age. The only thing that seperated him and them was that they had their parents cheering them up.
Adam was not at all sad. He had always lived his life alone , untill recently. As the sun went up, the fountain at the centre changed it's colour. The transparent water suddenly turned silver. Out of the water came 2 people. One was a man who had a black and white robe in him. He looked more like a fighter rather than a mage. The other person that came out was a woman. She too had a black and white robe on her but she had a wand resting on her waist.
Adam was surprised and had no idea what was going to happen. He was also not able to find Emily anywhere. Suddenly the man spoke "All of you little eggs must be wondering that we'll take you to the academy, right?". All the youngsters started murmuring. When he spoke again " You'll all be going to the Exam Site that Madam Principal prepared this year.
Some were surprised and some were not. Of course people knew that this was a compulsory exam to attend the academy. Adam having the memories of an orphan had no idea about this. He was devestated, he had no skills whatsoever. At amidst of all this commotion, the woman spoke up " Just give them some space to breathe , you imbecile!", while saying those words she gave a punch to the man who spoke before.
She cleared her throat and said everyone present to take the exam to form a line and get inside the portal. The silver water was probably the portal. One by one each one of them were going in , with Adam in the line. There were only four people in front of him.
He was extremely nervous. He had no idea that there would be an exam. As Adam calmed his nerves and jumped inside , everything turned white and he closed his eyes. When he opened them , he was standing in front of a large building. It looked somewhat like a colosseum but there were also rooms and a part that looked like a research facility.
On hearing the students around him. He got to know that this place was used every year to test the aspiring young mages to make them real Mages. When everyone finally arrived they got a book that said 'The Beginner's guide to become a Mage'. It sounded a bit stupid that if there's an exam then why are they already getting a guide.
The woman that took them here said that they'll get two days to understand and learn all there is, in that book. Then the exam will commence on the third day. Adam was happy that now he can prepare for the exam because before he had no idea about it.
Each child was given a card that had a room number and name on it. Adam got the room number 32. Everyone was told to go to their rooms and prepare for the exam. As Adam was going towards his room he could sense a person following him.
He thought maybe it was someone who had a room next to his. When Adam got inside the room, he saw two single beds. He was a bit confused when a boy came at him and said " So you like the room or is it too shabby?".
Adam was surprised but turned around to see who was talking. It was a young boy , he seemed a bit taller than him and had blue and red clothes on him. He had sparkling purple eyes and his was was almost feminine. He had somewhat long hair for a boy and his voice was too light.
Adam asked " What's your name ?". The boy said with a rough tone " Arthur ". Adam didn't actually liked that boy but he was unfortunately his roommate. Adam pain no mind to him anymore and started reading the book that was given to them.
The boy too left the talk as he started reading too. He sat on his bed , legs crossed and was reading with a very cool and easy going way. Adam was really interested in the book. He read and read an read.
Adam got the knowledge that there were 2 types of mages. Battle combat mages and Normal mages. There was also a exception of support mages with unique abilities. He learnt about mana and thought ,this is getting more like a video game now. As the day passed, Adam had finished half of the book.
He finished his daily goal , now he'll read the other half , the next day. Arthur on the other hand started reading with concentration but it drifted away and he was just playing with the book. Adam thought that Arthur has no intention to be accepted in the academy and was here just for fun.
After finishing his goal, Adam had nothing else to do. The other places were mostly restricted to enter as there is no telling who'll pass and who'll not. Arthur was curious about Adam and asked him many questions. They were all normal questions.
Some were about where did he live, while some were about what does he did for a living. It was obvious that Arthur knew about his situation as he never did a single question about Adam's family.
The day ended and Adam went out to fill the water at night. You can say it was his bad habit but nevertheless his water was finished and he was thirsty.
The water cooler was a bit far from his room. As Adam reached the water cooler he saw a person standing there and chanting something. He got suspicious. As Adam went closer, the person stopped chanting. Adam saw a student who was about as tall as him.
Adam thought about asking what he was doing but he just went the other way. Arthur saw his face and it reminded him of someone but he couldn't remember who it was. After that Adam felt a sense of insecurity and used a different cooler which was in the teacher's section near the student's cooler.
The people in this world used magic to operate things. Even the design were simple. The water cooler looked like a normal tap too.
Adam drank water and went to his room.He thought of telling Arthur about what had happened but he was too sleepy. He thought that it could wait for the other day.
