I opened my eyes.
"What th-"
I quickly shut my mouth as I don't wanna say something I regret.
A LIVING GOAT. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Not those you see at the zoo, but it's DRESSED. White fluffy ears, a long purple robe with a symbol on it... Yup, it's a goat alright. I don't think I want to know where Flowey is so I'll not think of it and remind myself to beware of flowers in the future.
"Ah, do not be afraid, my child, I am TORIEL, the gatekeeper of the RUINS."
"Hi..."
I stared, dumbstruck at the being in front of me.
"I pass through this place every day to see if anyone had fallen down. You are the first human to come down here in a long time."
Okay, ms goat lady, where are the other "humans"?
"Come! I will guide you through the catacombs."
Then, the Black and white things (including the boxy thing) disappeared as nothing happened and Toriel walked through another gate thingy that looks almost exactly like the one behind me.
'Should I listen to her?' Right now, it seems like I don't have a chance. A flower had almost killed me, so what can this goat be capable of?
'I don't wanna risk it...' I sighed and followed the goat lady.
I walked through the gate and saw gigantic stairs leading up to another room up ahead. I saw Toriel waiting for me at the top of it. Between the staircase, there's a pile of red leaves and...a star? 'Maybe it's some sort of moving decoration...' The walls are purple and have a few visible cracks on them. The top of the room is high enough for 11 men to stand shoulder on shoulder.
'Better not to keep her waiting...'
I walked up and she walks into another smaller room with...Buttons? Who will put buttons on the floor? On the other side of the room were a locked door and some sort of switch.
"Welcome home, innocent one."
Innocent one? Home? My home is up there, not here... Wait... Is she treating me like I'm 5 years old or something?
"Allow me to educate you in the operation of the RUINS. The RUINS are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and door keys."
Okay. So this UNDERGROUND thing works as a video game.
Then, she walked some of the buttons and pulled a yellow switch. The door opened.
"One must solve them from room to room, please adjust yourself at the sight of them."
"But why would someone make them? To have fun?"
"Well, it's an ancient tradition and the puzzles had already become one of our daily lives."
"That makes sense."
"The next room has puzzles too, so I think you should memorise them."
She then walked into another room while I looked at the sign.
"Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones, both walk not the middle road. Interesting..."
So these 'puzzles' are common down here? That's...weird.
