Chapter 196 - Talent and Tournament: Pauleen's Side

Seeing that Juniper easily claimed the position within the top ten students, Pauleen thought that she doesn't really want to be left behind. Layla went up to speak to her as she thought about what to do against her opponent which uses weapons that are in a bit of a range.

"You're Pauleen right? [Sentinel of Genuinity]?" Pauleen wondered about Layla somewhat stiff tone when speaking, but she didn't seem to be bothered even if she was a superior. "Yes, and you're Keith's fiancé if I remember correctly? The [Sentinel of Hallows]?" "Yes, that's my title, and I'm honored to be engaged with Keith." Once again, her tone was stiff and somewhat forced to talk like Pauleen was a superior of hers. "There's no need to worry about the tone, most people in the group came from Earth right? You shouldn't have to think about the other Sentinels." Pauleen felt slightly troubled as she quickly eased Layla up. "Alright, I would like to ask why you were given a free and open vacation time by the chief. I was a little curious about it." Layla immediately went to ask about the reason why their leader, Draxus gave her and Juniper a bit of preferential treatment of an open-time vacation. This led to Pauleen whispering to her about the reason that she quickly thought up. "Well, I believe that he wants us to keep an eye on my group, to ensure that they don't go awry from their actions. Besides, we don't want them to go face to face, last time it happened, Draxus got really mad." "He went mad?" "Yes, the tall guy, Josh has a bit of a bad history with Draxus, thus every time they meet, it would always escalate into an argument because of their hatred between each other." "What happened for it to turn out like that?" "That one is a secret, we don't want too many people knowing about Draxus, Keith may tell you of his own discretion though." "Oh, how did you meet Keith by the way?" "I was a senior of his back when we were in middle school." Just as they were about to proceed to chatting, the bell rung which meant that it was time for Pauleen to face her opponent.

"Oh? I guess it's time for me to go to the arena, are you going to watch with Keith?" Pauleen quickly prepared the new weapon as she felt curious about the capabilities of it.

"Hm? So my opponent is an archer, won't this be an easy win?" Pauleen's opponent wielded a sword and a massive shield that could cover the entire body. With the heavy armor that was equipped, it was pretty much virtually impossible for an archer to get through the heavy armor of her opponent. She didn't bother trash talking, as she wanted to test out the limits of the bow immediately.

Keith watched as Pauleen brought out the bow, which actually wasn't designed to look like traditional bows for people. But Pauleen already knew how to hold this kind of bow as she was shown a clip by Keith earlier. "Begin!" In that moment of a signal, the heavy knight slowly pushed forward with his shield out, not underestimating Pauleen as she might have some hidden tactics considering how she became his opponent in the later battles. "The knight is pretty impressive, he understood that there may be tricks and tactics Pauleen could be hiding." "He wants to avoid being reverse swept because he made it so far already, that he doesn't want to waste it to blind arrogance." Keith and Layla talked about the state of the battle as Pauleen finally began to charge up. Sensing this, the heavy knight took notice of the potential one move knockout and quickly moved to interrupt her. Pauleen knew of this tactic and quickly responded with one of her own. She took a glance at a sword and prematurely ended her charging. "[Trace]." She then aimed downwards at the last second and unleashed a shockwave in the ground to spread out the dust.

She then quickly moved to the side without the shield and copied the sword that her opponent had. "A free transforming weapon with the original form as the bow huh...? Draxus sure went wild with this weapon. The bow, which was designed like a technological cannon quickly changed shape into the sword that her opponent held. She attempted to strike her opponent but it her intent was slightly obvious. "Gh! She has a sword?!" Pauleen quickly disappeared into the smokescreen of dust and changed her weapon back into a bow and began to charge while right behind him. "Let's see, [Projection], [Spirit Cannon]." She began to charge while the heavy knight waited for her to attack from a different direction. Before he realized the she returned to using a bow, it was already too late.

Keith smiled as he took notice that the spirits were moving as if to signal him something. "So she's using a projection of a phantom arrow that paralyzes the spirit. Interesting." Keith began to understand why Draxus got blasted by Audrey like she was an Asian parent scolding him for going to far with his random work. "No wonder why Audrey started to regularly check on Draxus's weapons." Keith and Layla joked around about Draxus being a little bit hardheaded when it comes to equipment.

With Pauleen's victory of paralyzing her opponent, the rest of the group managed to quickly get their places with Josh being second and Gayle being in the first seat. Pauleen and Juniper got themselves the fifth and sixth seats of the academy, and they were now rumors about them because they were from the country of Preeliance.

There weren't many things that they had to deal with as they are very capable and intelligent when it comes to magic. It was due to their knowledge from Earth that they were able to strive generally. Keith and Laylasometimes paid them a visit to their school every week, until he left completely as their month of vacation had already ended.

"I just heard from Keith, they were attacked by the two heroes, one was from the allied country of Temockria. Draxus replaced him as he had business with this country now. We are told to exercise caution when working with the " Juniper told the group about what she heard from Keith in the group channel. "So that prick is here huh?" Apparently, Josh was in the room as he listened in to the conversation. He wasn't happy that Draxus was the one that's currently going to move around. "What does he even need to do here?" "I don't know, but maybe because the heroes attacked Keith, he's here to negotiate this time." It was unpleasant for Josh, but Pauleen and Juniper were relieved as the two of them can just pretty much rely on him.
