Chereads / Isekai: The Eight Soul Fragments / Chapter 197 - Targeted

Chapter 197 - Targeted

Two months have passed since Keith left the country of Aquila, Pauleen kept a record of the things that she saw in the capital as there were possibilities that there could be new rumors.

She sat down on her chair after she went around the city for shopping with Juniper. While Juniper went to train with their friends, Pauleen started writing on a note.

"The two missing princesses have returned, an Archon was spotted in here, and a new transfer student incoming huh...?" Pauleen sighed, she felt relieved that there was no rumors about them being from Preeliance yet. She had actually received a contact from Draxus, telling her to try not to meet him while he's present in their consideration. "Still, I'm wondering why Draxus started visiting this place." Just as she continued to ponder, she detected a powerful presence around. Since she was familiar, she simply opened the window, and found Draxus floating outside. "Uh? Wanna come in?" "Nah, I'm just here to give a big warning, and I'll be on my way back to the Preeliance castle." For Draxus himself to appear to warn them, Pauleen immediately deemed that it was extremely serious.

"There are two heroes on the move. The local one is capable of anything, similar to being the jack of all trades." "W-Wait, why are you telling me this?" Pauleen was somewhat terrified that something might've happened between Draxus and the two heroes that move around in Aquila. "It's because that they now had their sights on your group. They waited for a while to assess the talents, but their interests ultimately landed on Gayle, and Tiffany." "W-What do you mean...? What are they planning exactly...?" She was somewhat nervous now, as her group is being targeted by two heroes.

Their group is actually strong enough to face against various enemies, but heroes are an entirely different story. They have experience on combat and murder, while their group was able to deal with demonic monster waves and lifeless homunculi. Higher ranks of the Sentinels were already sent on missions that involve actual murder, making them already capable of handling something like a dead man's burden.

"Of course it's the obvious, they'll try to mask it by handing a formal invitation to the country, but their main goal is to turn them into their slaves. Their foreign hero can mind control, hypnotize, and shake a person's willpower. Do you think your group can face two heroes at once?" With that question dropped by Draxus to her, she tried to think about it. Whether her group would stand a chance fighting against two heroes with only a single actual vanguard. "Realistically speaking... If Josh gets controlled, it would be game over for us I think... Out of everybody in the group, he's the strongest one and he's the only vanguard. Even if he's strong-willed, the enemy can shake a person's will right? Then it might be impossible... So I would li-" Before she continued her sentence, Draxus raised his hand towards her and casted magic. "What are you doing he-?!" When Pauleen looked behind to see who was shouting, she immediately saw Josh that was completely encased in ice. "Think rationally Pauleen, I'll take my leave now." Draxus dropped down to the ground and started to run around without leaving any marks of escape.

"Pauleen... What did he tell you?" Her group had already taken notice of the commotion, but Pauleen was deep into her thought. "Pauleen." Gayle approached Pauleen, who was in a state of processing the information in her mind. "We're being targeted huh...?" "Eh? Ah yes... Draxus came by to give us a warning about the hero and the guest hero." "And you think we'll lose?" Gayle emitted a little bit of pressure, as she wanted to confirm things from what Draxus had told her. "N-" "Don't lie, I can read your mind." "Y-Yes... One hero may be possible, but the other one can control minds." "Mind control then, doesn't seem to be much a threat to me and Josh." The ice that encased Josh had already melted, he pretty much cooled down as he was able to listen in to a bigger threat to worry about.

"Two heroes huh...? It's easy to hold back just one of them, but we once met those two right? I can sense that the muscled black dude could be the one that's going to be trouble." Pauleen displayed the appearances of the heroes to the group while Josh was thinking about how to handle the situation. Since he's technically the one leading their group, he was pretty much deemed to be the most reliable one out of them all. Gayle supported his leadership, despite having some doubts about handling the battlefield, she simply supplements Josh leadership skills. Juniper and Pauleen however, experienced Draxus's perfect planning skills. They were already able to understand specifics of plans and what to do in various possible contingencies.

What's more, is that they do not have every specific information of their enemies. Thus Pauleen doubted whether they could actually win the battle against two enemies they do not know much about. However, before she was able to tell them what she recommended, Josh gave his answer as a leader. "We can handle this ourselves." Pauleen and Juniper, both with the understanding of their capabilities as Sentinels, were completely unsure as to how to approach the enemies.

Out of all of the members in their group, none of them were able to notice that a listening device was planted just below the window.

"Haaah... That incompetent retard. You can screw yourself over, but do not drag my Sentinels into your stupidity." Draxus stood up and faced what looked like a mine entrance. He moved his phone close to his ear after he contacted Serkyrio. "I'll be delaying my private mission. Sentinel members are placed in danger." He made a small landmark by using lightning magic to trace a small drawing of a man's organ while waiting for Serkyrio's response. "You have it hard don't you?" "I know... There are idiots, then retards, then Josh on a tier even below those two." Draxus then ended the call and hid himself completely in the dark. His glowing eyes were the only things that were visible, but he created a rift to hide himself completely, as if waiting for a possibility.
