Chapter 184 - A Year Ahead in Life

Audrey lived in the area for a year already. She had already learned various things about the Fae Realm and is ready to apply those learnings against various things. She trained magicians about arcane magic and other things such as how they could be used for convenience. Not only that, but she had learned a great deal of herself from Thalia.

"Your magic formula is a little different from the conventional method from the others from the outside world. Seeing as how I remember it clearly, your teacher uses the standard mix of 10% divinity, 70% mana, and 20% energy. It's the same as your other friends from your group. But you use 15% divinity, 25% energy, and 60% mana. Are you perhaps of divine blood?"

Because of such question from a while ago, Audrey began to doubt her current bit of humanity. Since she was fighting with more divinity, her magic should have more effectivity than the other members. She knew that Draxus was the Prime Existence and that he was aware of such. Thus, he uses the conventional formula of conversion to be used in magic. "I swear, if I'm actually a god... Then how am I losing to those three...?" The three members that she referred to are Keith, Wesley, and Jevil. As fellow vice-chiefs, the power of the four of them is completely different. While there is another vice-chief which is Olivia, Audrey understood that her position is more on directly assisting Draxus in his workload and act as his secretary. She knew that she will eventually be overtaken by her due to the amount of care Draxus had for his fiancés. "Aside from Olivia, I am considered as the weakest vice-chief as of the moment. Since my streak has been losing out pretty bad, maybe I should take up a weapon..." Audrey shrugged off her thoughts about being related to divine and looked for ways to overcome the difference against her fellow vice-chiefs first.

"So you want to learn about swordsmanship?" The elder foxkin was slightly surprised since Audrey showed up and asked her about swordsmanship. "Yes, to further improve my chances of fighting against other enemies, I can't practically rely on my magic the whole time." "I see... Well, you've come to the right place then, hold on." The elder foxkin quickly summoned one of the maids to call out her top sword master.

Later on, they moved to an open space area where they can practice their battles freely. "Before we begin, I would like to know what you understand about melee combat." Her trainer in swordsmanship, quickly made her start on her basic understanding of melee attacks. She replicated various things about her combat capabilities and tried to make some basic movements. "You at least have the basics... Then, how about basic reflexes." The trainer stepped forward to face her and tried to make a few attacks. Audrey barely managed to block everything while starting to get a feel of how nerve-racking it is to fight in melee range without any support. "You have great kinetic vision, mostly better than mine to be honest." Audrey felt slightly relieved as there was one thing helping her out without the use of magic. "But, you have no experience blocking with actual swords." "I knew it... I did feel my grip and my hands being painful after blocking a few strikes..." "And that's where we'll start." The sword trainer quickly gave his instructions to Audrey and have her prepared for a session to learn the basics of melee combat.

"How do you think she'll fare?" Later on, Audrey found herself flopped on the grass unconscious after pushing herself beyond the physical brink. "Her attacks could be improved greatly to be honest. She has difficulty to refine her movement to minimize unnecessary movement. The cause is that she has desperation in her movement. Like a feeling of not wanting to be behind despite already being so powerful in magic." Thalia came around after listening to the conversation from a bit of distance away. "So you were here, Queen Thalia..." "There's no need to worry about formality, I just came by to check on Audrey." "I see, can you look more into her past?" Thalia was quite surprised by the sudden request by the foxkin elder. "Can you explain once more?" "Yes, Miss Audrey has shown signs of desperation from her attacks in practice, it's like she has to take the victory and make a massive improvement immediately to catch up to somebody." "I see, alright." Thalia quickly activated her magic eyes to see a bit more into Audrey's past and displayed it for the foxkin elder and swordmaster to witness.

"Audrey." Draxus appeared in front of Audrey who looked somewhat disheartened after seeing her scores between the vice-chiefs. "Ah, Drax, is there something you need?" Draxus simply shook his head as he calmly spoke about what had happened in the Preeliance arena. "You lost again did you? I know it's disheartening to see a score of zero wins but, do not forget that your capabilities differ from theirs. None of you are inferior nor superior, each one has their own strength and weakness." Audrey remained silent, as she couldn't really bear to think about how she keeps losing against them. "One, you faced Iapetus and managed to win. Two, you have a higher magic capacity than most of the [Sentinels], and lastly, your advantage mostly exists in ranged attacks. So it's not uncommon to lose against them. However..." Audrey looked up as she noticed that Draxus seemed to have changed his tone. "There's weapons being tested under my supervision, if you have any interest in them, feel free to check them out if you have the time." Draxus turned his back on her and gave his final message. "I don't intend to be harsh but, once you've recovered, head to my office as I'll give something to you that you'll find useful in the later times." Draxus left the room and the scene changed.

This time, they were viewing a memory from Audrey as she watched a duel between Wesley and Keith. The three were surprised, as they were witnessing never-seen before abilities that transcended even time was being defeated by a person that relies on artifacts and shadows. The weapon of one is bizarre, but the swordmaster deemed it as a highly dangerous weapon when mastered. They start to wonder how the young boy from the shadows seemed too capable of fighting even those that have transcended time. "It's because, Wesley... Has artifacts that can perceive the slightest bit of difference in the flow of atmospheric mana, and the artifact that helps him perceive future attacks. He uses it mainly to predict Keith's time stops and make careful movements beyond that. His shadows move as he pleased, and can even set them in formation to attack as an army. So if you want a victory against him, you must render at least two factors as powerless." "A-Audrey... You've woken up." "Yeah, sorry for having such disappointing capabilities unlike them, but at the very least... In the end of my vacation, I would like to be able to defeat them at least once. So care to teach me more about melee combat, swordmaster?" The swordmaster smiled to her determination as she picked up the sword. "By the way, why don't you have the Archon Draxus, train you?" Audrey pondered for a bit before giving her answer.

"I want him to be in for a surprise, yeah."
