Chapter 175 - A Great Haul of Info and Money

"Something scary happened last night you know?" The innkeeper was talking to Keith and Layla while they were eating breakfast. They listened to the details intently as the young girl explained what had happened. "A group of men were found in the central plaza earlier, they looked like they have seen a reaper." Keith looked around before asking her for the details. "There was a sign that said that they were attempting a break-in and rape a target, but they were subdued by somebody they called as the [Reaper]." Layla was listening in to the conversation and quickly got interested. Seeing as the men were pretty much reduced to tears, she had placed suspicion on Keith as she noticed that he left the bed at the middle of the night. "Needless to say though, they were really terrified after they told about what they had faced, because they were saying that they couldn't even lay a finger on the reaper that stopped them from doing whatever they pleased." Keith knew that if it goes on, his cover will be blown as the perpetrator of the incident. He quickly finished his breakfast and asked Layla if she wishes to stay a bit longer in the inn as Keith wanted to scout out the next town and back. Layla pondered for a bit as she thought about settling down for a while. She reprimanded Keith for being too stiff with his planning and told him to just take a slack for the time being. Considering that he may have messed up, Keith could only laugh at himself for a bit as he decided to settle for the entire time he paid for the inn expenses. However, he did initially escape his predicament by changing the topic. "I wonder if there are any good monsters to hunt..." Keith began pondering if there is at least worthy of something to train on. Considering that he doesn't want to be left behind by the other vice-chiefs in terms of power, he felt compelled to train a bit further. Layla seemed like she could approve the idea, but since her power makes Keith's hunting useless, she told him that she will stay in the inn for the time being to collect more information. Keith thanked her and went out to the adventurer's guild in search for some monsters.

"Layla, are you by chance, working from a different country?" The innkeeper was starting to get curious on Layla having to go around with Keith. She didn't really bother hiding it as they were simply on vacation learning more about the cultures of other countries. "Yeah, we're from Preeliance, we were given a full month vacation after the global incident of invaders." The innkeeper was shocked to hear things from the country that has been involved with various incidents. "Preeliance? The country that holds the [Tranquil Harmony] alliance?" Layla nodded to her assumptions, causing her to be filled with sheer curiosity. "If the two of you are working for Preeliance, what exactly are you?" Layla moved closer to whisper the full identity of both Keith and herself. "Keith is a vice-chief, the [Sentinel of Spirits], while I'm the [Sentinel of Hallows] an official of the organization due to the engagement with him." "So you're engaged! But then, to think that the two of you are from the [Order of the Crystallized Sentinels], what's more, aren't the vice-chiefs hand-picked by an Archon?" Layla nodded to the innkeeper to confirm her information while telling her to be a bit more quiet. "Keith is a hardworking man, though he mostly plays around with his friends a lot of the times." The two of them continued to talk about Keith's capabilities and things about the country.

In the meantime, Keith found a guild request of gold rank. He was quite surprised to see a high danger quest when there are quite a few gold and silver adventurers around. The quest however, normally required a party if done with Silver Rank adventurers. "Damnit... I could just try anyway." Keith took the request and immediately went into the guild's library to check for information. "So the monster is basically a pair of enemies. If I have to prove that I finished the request, I have to take a small part of the tails. Sounds legit..." Keith returned the book and immediately went off to the western side of the city. It was on the path that led to the capital and cutting off trade routes between it and the main line of economy.

"So the city had formed a subjugation team before and failed, twice, against this?" Keith cast his gaze on two giant monsters that seem to resemble komodo dragons. However, it was about two sizes larger and seemed to have different mutations due to the magic. Noticing that, Keith understood the difficulty now. "If it's only one then the subjugation team would've won this..." The monsters finally noticed Keith's presence in the path and charged up some sort of magic in their tails. "Earth and fire... So Magma?" Keith dodged the hurled boulder and the fireball that was scattered around the area. He was completely unscathed as he brought out [Death Trap] to finally begin his attack. "Let's make this a quick deal, [Chronopause]." Keith paused the flow of time and immediately used his chain ball to smash it directly into the back of one monster. When time resumed, the monster felt a massive force damage its back, causing it to go enraged after feeling the pain. "As expected of the Earth mutated one, it's not enough with just a single strike. Then... [Spirit of Earth] [Shieldbreaker]!" Keith summoned the Spirit of Earth and unleashed a strike into the same place as before. The attack was somewhat softened because he had to accommodate with the timing of the monster mutated with fire. "Tch, weakened by giving me a distraction... Then how about this." Keith brought out a card that was passed to him by Draxus. "You will be the first specimen of Draxus's experiment!" Keith channeled his mana into the card. "[Spirit Card: Spirit Overdose]!" The effects of his spirit magic gets amplified to extreme levels as he used the [Spirit of Time] to slow down the time flow for as long as he wanted. He even used the same ability to speed himself up, effectively amplifying his speed by four times against his enemies. He wanted to test the limits of Draxus's experiments as he did intend to hand over [Cards] based on their titles for useful effects. Keith moved at instantaneous speed and began slicing through when swinging his sickle around with the chain. Within a split second, twenty cuts were made and Keith finished it off by stabbing through the heart of one. He then moved to the second monster and used the speed to smash the spiky ball on the same place of the earthly mutated monster thirty times a second, not even giving a chance for it to gasp for a dying breath. After killing the two monsters, Keith took a breath and disabled the [Spirit Card], after using his spirit magic beyond the standard limits, he started to feel a little wobbly and exhausted. "Damn... I guess I'm still not used to it..." Keith made a quick complaint and removed the tails to show as proof of the subjugation, he then looked at the two dragons, who have been greatly damaged that their value might've gone down. "Alright, I'll try to sell these anyway." He shrugged his shoulders and simply stuffed the two dead monsters in the [Interdimensional Storage]. "What a haul!!" Keith started to walk back to the city to turn in the monsters.
