Chereads / Isekai: The Eight Soul Fragments / Chapter 115 - Remuel's Life

Chapter 115 - Remuel's Life

Remuel and Bethany sat down for a while to recollect their spirits before moving on to the next room. Bethany was scared for life while Remuel had to rest easy after dodging multiple traps in quick succession. The atmosphere between the two felt a little awkward for Bethany as she was somewhat embarrassed with Remuel seeing a weak side of her. She thought about getting conscious of him which only fueled her shame. Remuel on the other hand was unmoving as he laid down flat on the ground while staring at the ceiling. He sighed in exhaustion as he used his magic to make objects move in the way he wants them to go. Bethany was still thinking about the puzzles and the possible threats and only realized that she was served tea. Remuel was still flat on the ground so she panicked a little.

"Relax, I'm practicing [Telekinetic magic]. It allows me to control objects in my vicinity and make them do whatever I wish. Though progress is kinda slow unlike the other two archons though." After Remuel explained to Bethany about how the objects are moving, she felt convinced and slowly took one of the tea cups served for her. "To think you know how to brew tea as well?" Remuel frowned a little as he felt underestimated by her. "It was necessary for me to learn it. In the other world, I was born in a wealthy family, and I was taught a lot regarding etiquette. I've gotten way used to it already." Remuel then sighed and finally sat up from his laid down position. He showed a slightly displeased face as he gazed at Bethany. On the other hand, Bethany was quite pleased with his personality. "I'm sorry if I offend you with this but, you really have a competitive personality, it's a little funny." Remuel sighed once again and began scratching his head. "Even you huh...? I get that everybody's calling me competitive lately, but it's because I've been getting slightly behind for a while." Remuel brought out the scythe and gently caressed the blade. "So you were completely a noble even before you came to this world?" Remuel nodded in response while citing some details. "Highly distinguished families in this world may focus more in economics, and development of the country. But in my world, to get on something, it takes many years just to reach it, and that's only in the preparation stage. Beyond that, once you reach working stage, you have to completely fulfill every bit of work, even the smallest things without any mistakes." Remuel continued talking as he recalled all the events before he was led to the world he currently resided on.

"To be distinguished in prestige is to hold prudence, fortitude, and ethnicity." That quote was the base of what Remuel has to do in order to live through his life. Back on his childhood, he was constantly reminded to never act out of his class and focus on making a name for himself. Thus he wasn't easily able to reach out to anybody.

He was forced to learn various things as a child instead of allowing himself to experience a childhood that he can never attain once more. He continued to work hard as he learned how to defend himself with karate, outclass people in intellect, and hit the perfected levels of etiquette that became unmatched. It was because of such a lifestyle that he had developed a personality that tends to compete as he requires himself to be outclassing his opponent in every manner possible.

However, despite the fact that his competitive behavior remained up until now. It was suppressed whenever Serkyrio is around. Ever since he met Serkyrio, who managed to outclass him in everything, he quickly learned that the world will always be larger as he meets more people. Serkyrio was the first real friend that he made after a solid thirteen years of living in perfection. Now, he was able to think much broader, and much clearer than even his own parents.

That also began the phase where Remuel was looked down upon by his family due to him being outclassed by somebody else, as they were in a prestigious school, his family was well known due to their achievements. Even with such achievements in place to meet their standards, they looked down on him for rebelling the rule of becoming inferior to somebody. However, Remuel understood that he was going down the path of arrogance, and quickly changed just for his own self. And thus, the meeting with Serkyrio was the wheel of fate turning over.

However, the struggle wasn't ending as he was basically just a higher level member of Serkyrio's group. There was not much happening drastically but they were keeping tabs on Remuel's behavior. Yet, those tabs never reached him for long.

That was because he was suddenly summoned to this world.

In this world, preparation time to reach success was practically inexplicable and can depend on what kind of occupation will be taken. But he was pretty much happier when he was brought to the new world than staying in the old one. However, there was something that made him feel like something was disconnected or unsealed.

It was then he realized what kind of existence he was.

Serkyrio, Arlesk, and Draxus received the same kind of effect in their awakening in the new world as well. While Draxus was oblivious, Remuel exchanged gazes with Serkyrio and Arlesk as both of them seem to understand. In Remuel's mind, he was quickly reminded as to what the identities of the two people in front of him. "[God of Balance], and the [God of Courage]..." He then smiled as instead of missing out on the behavior, he was completely unaffected after recalling everything at once. He then turned his gaze to Draxus while muttering inaudibly. "[Prime Existence]..."

It was then they finally began talking about what to do on that event.

Back to present time, Remuel sighed once more as he recalled the story before he arrived to the world. Bethany was staring at him as if thinking about how harsh his life went compared to hers. "So let me guess, the other archons are the same right?" Remuel could only nod to her question. He hasn't fully known Arlesk and Serkyrio's stories, but Draxus who was more open than the two of them was someone he already knew how bad his life went. And knowing the [Eighth Soul of the Prime Existence], he easily understood that all other souls had fallen and are making their ways to reenter Draxus.

While they can see the color of eight souls, Remuel could only sense three souls inside Draxus currently.

"Well, Draxus aside, I can't confirm the other two just yet. But they definitely went through at least something, before we arrived here of course." Remuel drank all of his tea after his recollection of bad memories. "I see, it's nice that you're at least able to get through that. I may have lived a life full of expectations as well but I was at least able to enjoy childhood. Unlike you..." Bethany looked down as she felt like she was more fortunate than Remuel. Getting those words unexpectly, Remuel turned his gaze towards Bethany. It was then he finally got a closer look as Bethany sipped her tea while muttering lightly. "Delicious..." The pair of golden orbs which were looking down in both sympathy and pity caught Remuel's attention. Because of her behavior of trying to sympathize, Remuel flicked her forehead. "Ow, why?!" Remuel's expression quickly relaxed as he explained to her. "Thanks but, we can't just go back to the past, so just like what I'm doing now, just face the future aight?" Those words Remuel spoke of had no credibility in him as the group still intends to investigate about the past where pieces of history started to disappear. But he didn't care about that right now. "You're right, I believe we should go back first." Bethany suggested that they should return to the castle to report about the puzzles given to them. But Remuel looked around to check if there was something in the room.

Before long, he activated his fire magic to brighten up the place, allowing him to see everything inside it. He then found a large door and another cube with scrambled colors. "Another one of these [Rubik's Cubes] huh...? What's more, ain't this a four by four by four one?! I don't know the strategies here!" Remuel brought out the cube and started turning the sides. He analyzed the colors of which cube could hold in the center pieces. The pieces he found were white, blue, green, red, brown and black, basically the same kind of cube that has element infusions. Remuel frowned as he looked down in resignation. "Guess I'll ask Harold at this point." Remuel sighed as he stored the cube in his [Interdimensional Storage]. He then turned towards Bethany and lightly asked her if she's ready to go back. She nodded while laughing a little in Remuel's exasperation.

Back to the castle, Remuel was pondering as he was using his phone to contact Harold. Bethany was reporting the situation to the king along with the swift progress they made to get through the first three chambers. "Those puzzles given to you were quite crazy in my opinion. Was the level of education given to him that high?" The king of Luventrion was surprised as Remuel was capable of solving all puzzles in the first floor within a day. "So, the reason you two came back is because there was another key?" Bethany nodded in response as she explained what happened. "It seems the keystone this time was four by four by four instead of the three by three by three. It seemed to be beyond Remuel's level so he's contacting somebody from the castle of Preeliance." The King turned his gaze towards Remuel who was somewhat distressed as he was faced with a wall while waiting for Harold to receive his contact. He then turned his gaze back at Bethany who was staring at him. "Fascinated by him?" From those words, Bethany snapped back to facing the king while quickly trying to deny the words. "There's no such?!" She was waving her hands as if covering her expression which suddenly blushed. "You did report that he got you back on track from the pressure of death. So I believe you may have somewhat fancied him as someone capable." The King then made it clear to her which she quickly agreed while hiding her flustered expression. "Well, we can only wait and see what we'll be seeing once Remuel reaches out to his contact, I'll leave now, great work for today." The King then left the room and left the two of them in the discussion room alone.

Bethany sat down next to Remuel to ask him about the incoming contact. It was then he finally received a message from the group chat coming from Harold himself. "Well, the person is basically the royal magician of the Preeliance, he's the only one capable of solving a cube like this so far. Draxus can do it if he learns how to, but in my case, I'm not like those mathematical monsters which are like, four people in the Preeliance castle." He then checks the message sent by Harold. "Seems like I have to go back to the castle." Remuel stood up and started stretching to prepare his trip back to the castle while sending a message to Harold that he'll fly back. "Wait Remuel, can I come with you to the castle of Preeliance?" With such a request coming from Bethany, Remuel pondered on what to do in the situation he's in right now. However, he decided to allow Bethany to accompany him back to the castle of Preeliance.

The next day, right after the two finished breakfast in the castle of Luventrion, they asked permission from the king whether they are allowed to go towards the castle of Preeliance. The king himself readily gave his permission, allowing them to leave the premises of the country while in possession of the keystone.

"By the way, why are we in the balcony of your room? I know I've already prepared for a one-day round-trip but starting here is weird." Bethany narrowed her eyes while Remuel didn't feel bothered. "Well, we'll be flying after all. [Amalgam of Bible]! [Devilish Wings of Ascension]!" A pair of demon wings grew behind him which made Bethany flabbergasted on how much it suited him. But just before she was able to say something, Remuel carried her in his arms and started to fly in course for Preeliance.
