Chapter 38 - Chapter 27: The Eight Rays of Light

This is the worse. My explosion wasn't enough to burst through the tiyanak's skin. This things on my neck are slowly sapping my life out.

My hair color's back to normal which means I only have little amount of mana inside my body.

The timing of their attack couldn't get any better. I didn't recover much from the mountains because of my fight with Dwighn and the original spell that I used to escape.

I still have strength but it wasn't enough to break out. Well at least I still have energy to open my eyes and face his lady in front of me that is about to hit me with her knuckles.

**************

"Anzai! look! look!"

Said the astounded Luna while she gave the flower fairy dust to make it bloom.

The young boy, she's addressing was sitting in the plaza staring in the blue sky.

When Luna called out to him, he turned to face Luna.

"Anyone can do that." He said.

Luna stood up.

"Well, not as good as I am!" She proudly said.

"But Finn can even make fruit from a tree."

He looked at me who was sitting in the shade of the tree together with his sister.

I wanted to tease my sister too. So I used fairy dust to make the tree bear fruit. I even make it ripe enough to fall from the tree into my hand.

"F- Finn's already an adult! But what I'm doing right now was pretty amazing for my age."

"Really?" He smiled wryly.

He raised his hand and pointed it above him. He emitted a Purgatorial Mist and launched it in the sky.

The black mist spread out making the sky dark. By the use of fairy dust, the little explosions it created was like a twinkling stars at night.

"Wow! Anzai your so talented!"

At first, Luna was so amazed seeing the magnificent view in the sky but by the time I pointed out Anzai's talent. She cried when she realized how talented he is even they're in the same age.

She run towards Maurelle who was sitting besides me.

She probably think that I'm just going to bully her more if she run towards my side.

"That's okay, what you did was splendid too. Just don't listen to Anzai and your childish big brother."

"What did I— Never mind."

I tried to act innocence but she scowled at me.

"But Anzai can do that amazing things even he's still young."

She looked up to Maurelle with watery eyes.

"Don't worry if you practice everyday you'll be even better than Anzai."

Luna's face brightened upon hearing what Maurelle said.

"But I didn't even practice doing— Aaah!"

Anzai was about to say another word again but her sister made a black mist snake to scare him off.

"Here Luna you can eat all of this sandwiches."

"Really?!"

"Of course!"

The sandwiches had all been taken by Maurelle. Luna munched happily on the sandwich.

"But I want some too! "

"Me too!"

They pretended that they can't hear us. Instead Maurelle guarded themselves with a swarm of black mist snakes.

"Your sister is so cruel!" I said then Anzai nodded in agreement.

Luna was so delighted while Maurelle was patting her head.

"Finn! Luna! Time to go back to the Palace."

The one who called out to us was our mother. The fairy Queen herself Titania Alinac.

They came out of the house together with my father King Oberon IV. And my father's good friend, the father of Maurelle and Anzai, Alvino whose the Leader of the Eight Rays of Light.

"Mother. What's the matter you seems like you were in a hurry?"

"Something came up, we need to go back soon to the castle."

This place where they live, was from the palace. Due to some circumstances, they are only permitted to stay here.

Every time we visit here, it always last a day but now it's only a couple hours before we get here.

Whatever that something is, it must be important?

"I don't want to go back!" Luna yell. "In fact I want to stay here forever together with Ate Maurelle not with my brother."

That hurts! How can you say that to your big brother.

"Alright you can stay here for a while. But you need to come with us Finn."

My father permitted Luna to stay usually he would make us up. But he was tensed up right now.

Not just him but all of them are.

I stood up and go with them.

"Father, are you okay?"

Anzai was the one to ask.

The smart Anzai might have noticed it as well.

"What kind of question is that! Of course I am. Listen Anzai your the man of this house right now, don't bully Luna okay."

"But they're the one that being mean to me right now."

"Alvino we need to leave."

Alvino leaved Anzai and go with us.

"Later Anzai!"

Alvino was the same as usual but I can tell that something is bugging them.

I don't have any idea what it is. But I'm having a bad feeling about it.

We reached the Palace that was located on the top of The Tree of Life. We headed to the conference room where the meeting will be conducted

Mother give me the details why we suddenly go back to the palace. And its still giving me chills till now.

A black shadow enveloped the Maharlika Island except for the Enkan Forest.

The shadow instantly drains the life force of anything it touches. It only took overnight before it slaughtered most of the humans residing the land.

This incident concerned the humans living in the whole Shire Continent. That's why they called out this meeting to discuss about it.

When we reached the conference hall, all of the five members of the Eight Rays of Light who lived in the Enkan Forest were there.

They all show their respect after we enter the room.

My father sat down at the end of the conference table,me and my mother sat down on the chair beside him.

"Any update about the current situation in the Shire Kingdom?" Father asked.

"Yes, Your Highness!" A man who answered stood up.

He's the Third Ray of Light, Albericht.

"The humans in the kingdom were protesting in the Royal Capital that they can barely handle the situation. The king gave us this letter for you."

He gave the letter to my father.

My father opens the letter and reads the message. He put down the letter and tell everyone what's the message all about.

"The king said that the situation in their kingdom wasn't the problem. They can still keep the people under their control. The problem is the people already have their culprit."

Father looked at Uncle Alvino and continued.

"The children of Alvino and his Purgatorian wife."

Not so much response from the people present in the conference hall.

Perhaps all of us expected this to happen someday.

"The incident fits perfectly, a black shadow similar to the Purgatory Mist, not to mention the strength of it that it able to kill that many people in one night. It's just normal for them to think that this incident was caused by the sibling. Which they believe most powerful being right now." Albericht said once again.

"Even we all know that the sibling can only produce normal purgatory mist. They won't bite that as an excuse not to blame the two." The Fifth Ray Odette said that. "This is bad if this continues, everything we did will all be for nothing." She continued.

"Seriously, after everything we did for them, how come they only have a little trust in us?"The man who said that, was Gerald, the Sixth Ray of Light.

"This is bound to happen ever since before. They are only waiting for a single incident that will put the blame on the sibling." Mother said.

"So they don't have an ounce of trust in us from the start?" Gerald furrowed his eyebrows.

From the day they were born, Maurelle and Anzai were seen as a threat by humans. It's because they have the blood of a Fairy and Purgatorian. Two of the most powerful races in this world.

"Any lead about the culprit behind this?" Father once again asks.

"The Purgatoriansare the primary suspect behind this due to the similarity of the black shadow to the purgatory mist in this incident. But there's no information about a Purgatorian who possesses such powers even with Purgatorian Blessing." Albericht said.

Purgatorians had the ability to take the life out of others but they can only do that one at a time. So taking a life of hundreds of thousands of humans just overnight was simply impossible.

Because it was powerful, it will make the story blaming Maurelle and Shou more plausible.

Black Shadow? My memories are a bit hazy but I think I've seen the same kind of power before.

"Unless we identify the culprit, humans will still blame this on the sibling. Which means everything we did will all be in vain—"

"Don't tell me!" I suddenly blurted out.

"What's wrong Finn?" Mother asked.

Not just her but I think all of them are surprised after of my change of behavior. Including my father.

"I'm not sure if this is the one who did all of this. But in the past me and Anzai meet a girl the same age as him. We are wondering outside of the Enkan Forest which is full of monsters but strangely no monsters attacked us." I said.

Outside of the Enkan Forest was a forest full of wild magical beast and monsters. So I find it strange that we haven't come across even just one.

"If you'll excuse me, that certainly is a strange phenomenon but I don't think it has—"

"It has, I'm sure of it. There's no corpse or any signs that they've been killed so I assume that it's some kind of manipulation. But the real reason why I suspected that she has something to do with it was that on the way there I noticed. It's still morning, but the shadows of the trees around us were pointing in the east that is going against the light."

All of them were so surprised after hearing what I said.

The sun rises from the east, it was impossible even if you use a light spell unless it's so powerful, to alter the shadow of an object towards the sun.

I was so crept out while walking in the forest at that time.

"Why did you say that it was her?" Father was the one to ask this time.

"When we decided to go back, that's when we meet her. She was alone so we approached her and asked if we can help her in any way. She said that she was looking for someone, so we decided to stay with her for a while. I didn't know about the prophecy before so I don't pay attention to it. But when she introduced herself, she said that she's one of the princesses of the night."
