Chapter 40 - Chapter 29: The Commanding Fairy

The noise of the raging people, the hot breeze in the air caused by the fire-breathing dragon, and the flames in all the houses and establishments due to the occurring civil war in the Shire Kingdom.

The full moon shines only to reveal the unsightly view of the land. The humans who started this rebellion were fighting with the Royal Army. While the dragons were preying on the civilians, splitting the kingdom's forces.

That is the scene they saw when the Five Rays arrived.

You can see terrors in their eyes as they ran away for their lives. The horrific scene while the dragons bite off half of the body of a human, swallowing them alive, and burning them to dust. A scene enough to make some of the newbie fairy soldiers vomit.

"Gerald!Fiery! Along with the senior squads! Go hunt down the dragons attacking the civilians! Albericht! And the new recruits! Help fend with the soldiers! If you find anything strange, report back to me!"

"Roger!"

Following Alvino's command, Gerald and Fiery along with the new recruits set off to fight the dragons. While Albericht along with the new recruits goes down to help the royal army.

"This isn't like you. You'll usually send off a newbie squad into hell to determine if they are capable or not... Don't tell me that the commander softens after having his cute little children."

"Are you sure? Every creature present in here can be a threat."

"What do you mean?"Odette who was mocking Alvino earlier asked.

In Odette's mind, the ones that they should be wary of are the dragons Because of their strengths and the number of them flying in the sky.

"Who knows? Even I didn't know what I mean." That's the only answer Alvino gave her.

Even Odette was somehow doubtful about what Alvino said. She decided not to pursue the subject anymore.

"So what are we going to do? Are we just going to wait here?"

"Eh... Don't you want to have a little chat with me?"

Alvino tease her but Odette just scowled him back.

"It can't be helped. It seems we can't find any valuable information here... Let's go to the castle."

***********

The two of them headed to the castle and found out that there are some dragons attacking there too.

Some mages were trying to stop them but human magic wasn't that effective against dragons. It can't really do more damage on the tough scales of a dragon.

All of the artillery on top of the walls were already destroyed. The dragons play with the knights by eating them one after the other. They're unable to do anything but throw their spears since they can't reach the position of the dragons. It's just too much for the forces of the kingdom.

"Odette! Bind them up!"

Odette flew to the center of the circular wall that surrounds the city.

She widely spread her arms and raise them in the sky. Humongous vines grew from the ground and rise into the air binding the dragons surrounding them.

"Nicely done... Now it's my turn."

Alvino touches the metal beside him turning half of his body to metal. Even with the metal body, he flew in the air, and by feeling the wind touching his legs he turned it into the air that later on become a whirlwind.

By boosting his speed with his air leg, he pierces his whole body in the head of a dragon. He continuously changes his trajectory with constant speed, piercing through all the bound dragons.

The dragons fall down along with the vines crashing into every establishment in the vicinity.

"Oh, great Fairies! Thank you for saving us!"

Said one of the people that took shelter in the castle. Every single one of them was cheering upon seeing the hope carried by the two Fairies who slay most of the dragons all by themselves.

The two go down to see the situation down there. You can instantly tell that their presence really did give them courage and lessen their fear.

On the ground, they met a man with a red robe standing in front of his people.

"Thanks for coming to aid us. You have my gratitude."

The two bowed to the king to show their gratitude.

"You've done a great job controlling the situation, Your Majesty."

"The situation was hopeless, thanks to you it seems like the citizens have calm now."

"No problem. We've eliminated most of the dragons. There are some that remain but I think your mages can handle them until the artillery recover. Did you already call for other reinforcement other than us?"

"We've contacted the Ilaya Tribe but they declined to help us."

"How about Adventurers?"

"Some of them agreed but most of the Adventurers outside the capital declined due to share belief as to the rebels. Actually, many Adventurers are part of the rebellion."

Alvino looked around him. It triggers his curiosity so he asked.

"By the way, Your Majesty. The number of mages here doubled compared to last time."

"It's because of the Magic Academy we've recently built."

"So all of these mages were already experts in using magic? That's good then."

"I agreed. They can only cast up to intermediate-level magic. Even though it can't actually deal much damage, it's still powerful enough to repel dragons."Odette spoke up.

Human magic wasn't that advance yet, because of the frequent wars happening on the continent. In the last war, all of the magic research facilities had been destroyed. And the war cut off their connection with another continent. Delaying their knowledge about magic spells and formulation.

While they are talking, a man riding a white horse arrived. He has blonde hair, dark purple eyes, and a heavy suit of armor on his body.

He kneels down to show his respect to the king and to the two Fairies.

"Great Fairies, thank you for helping us. I'm here to ask permission from the king. I'll be blunt Your Majesty. We need to fight back against the rebels. I've already used my Mystical Arts to force them to stay and defend but the enemies didn't seem to stop their attacks anytime soon. I've already lost lots of my men if we just keep on fending we'll end up losing most of our soldiers... I know that you care about your people but this is not just a simple rebellion, it's already a civil war. Please give us permission to fight back, before it's too late."

"I understand, there's no helping our situation. I'm sorry for your Rulers late resolve." The king said.

He approached the man and helped him to stand up. The king put his right hand on the man's shoulder after it completely stood up.

"Leonel, I'm giving you the permission to do what you see fit. Show them fear! Break their spirit! Avenge your fallen comrades!"

"Right!"

As the man already got the permission he wanted. He gets back on his horse and prepares to ride it.

"Wait! Can we go with you?"

When the horse was about to run again, Alvino said that to stop him.

"It's gonna be an honor to fight alongside you. Great Fairies."

After that, the three of them headed to the battleground.

************

When they arrived at the field. Albericht and the new recruits was the one stopping the rebels from their tracks. While Gerald, Fiery, and the senior squads were fighting against the dragons in the sky. The wounded soldiers are inside a temporary camp and the fallen was laying down in a carriage.

The man earlier, Leonel, gives his army permission to fight back. And because of anger, they didn't even hesitate to stab and slash the rebels.

"Odette, help cure the wounds of the soldiers in the tent," Alvino ordered.

Odette headed to the tent. Upon arriving there she used her blessing to grow some herbs that have an effect similar to pain relievers, then gave them to the wounded soldiers. From her fingers, thread-small vines appeared. She used it to stitch the wounds of the soldier. Although it's only a pain reliever and no anesthesia, the soldier endured the pain because of the beautiful woman in front of them.

Getting back to Alvino whose lost in thought right now. Thinking of a possible way to solve the situation without so many casualties.

The soldiers who recently get back to fighting the rebels were shaken after witnessing the behavior of their enemies.

Even though the soldiers clearly overpowered them, the rebels keep on fighting regardless if they've been stabbed or cut their hands and legs off. They keep on attacking, and some of them passed out mid-way.

It's like their thoughtlessly making their every move.

"Sir Alvino, what do you think about our enemies' behavior? They're so persistent that it has even shaken up some of the soldiers. It's like they're just being forced or manipulated."

Upon hearing what Leonel said. An idea struck Alvino's head.

He gets a torch and touches the fire on it. Upon touching the flame, It immediately turns his body to fire. Alvino flew up high and just he suspected the shadow was pointing towards the east, towards the direction of Maharlika Island. On the island suspecting where the girl in question is.

'So they're just being manipulated!'

"You're right, they're just being manipulated!" Alvino said while he was going back to Leonel.

While he's slowly approaching him, the fire in his body slowly vanishes.

"How did you know?"

"The details were too long to explain! Will you allow me to give commands from here?" He asked with a serious face.

Leonel didn't answer instead he looked back to the soldiers and call out to them.

"Soldiers! Line up!... From now on you'll follow commands from Sir Alvino! Follow his commands even if it will take off your lives!"

"Right!"

The soldiers turn their eye's from their commander to Alvino.

"Listen! Those rebels were being manipulated and we don't know where or who the culprit is. We don't have anyways of freeing them, Except for losing their consciousness and making them immobile. I'll give you permission to break their limbs! Just don't kill them! We can heal it later with one of my comrades' powers! While the Fairies will use fairy dust to knock them out of consciousness!... Now! Charge!"
