Chapter 5 - Survival Instinct

The big wolf was surprised by Rada's reaction, he thought his attack was enough to make him fall to the ground. But no harm thought, he would continue to play with his prey a little longer.

"Awoooo!" he gave signal to the pack, which in no time deployed to strike from the flanks as well.

"Oh no!"

Rada had sensed their intentions right away, he had to go faster or it would be the end. It didn't matter what they were now, it didn't matter if they were going faster than him, he absolutely had to run faster!

"Uoooooh!"

The scream he let out came from the depths of his being, it was a scream that served to encourage him to push his limits, to keep going and not stop for anything in the world.

As he was running for his life, suddenly something happened.

He felt his body becoming lighter, all the energy he had lost until recently was mysteriously returning to his body, giving him even more strength than before.

He was again taking control of his disordered breathing, his heart beating in his chest like a drum, slowly resuming its regular beat, his mind began to be much clearer.

He felt he could reason again even in a situation as desperate as the one he was in.

Reflexively laying his eyes on his hand, he saw that the mark in his palm was glowing. The rings were rotating with each other, it was a unique spectacle, this time Rada was not so surprised, there was no time.

The big wolf was completely stunned by what he saw.

"WHAT! He just underwent an evolution and not only his spirit but his body as well! That human possesses a spiritual pearl! How is this possible? Who the hell is this human!?"

Concerned by this bizarre discovery, the big wolf decided that he needed to get rid of the human as quickly as possible. He gave a signal to the pack to attack in force and give no respite until he was dead.

Rada didn't sit idly by, he clearly saw that his pursuers became even more pressing and began to slingshot at him. Despite the sudden attacks, he could clearly feel the slashes coming at him from behind.

He made no sign of slowing down; in fact, he felt he could even increase his speed. He made a sprint forward that left a deep impression in the ground, his stride was like that of a cheetah, his body sliced through the wind at an incredible speed, the world seemed to be slowing down, it was a fantastic feeling.

Now he understood how "Flash" must feel.

His senses heightened, he could hear the flow of water further ahead.

"A waterfall!" he thought immediately.

It was the best chance he could have had at that moment, he accelerated again, he put all of himself into that run, so much so that he distanced himself from the pack a few dozen meters, taking advantage of the narrow spaces between one tree and another.

The big wolf was beside himself with rage.

Tongues of fire started coming out of his mouth. How was it possible that a human, an insect in his presence, could escape him in this way? What mattered most was what he was carrying.

Unacceptable, he would rather set the whole forest on fire, he increased his speed as well.

He jumped over the herd and launched himself in pursuit stronger and angrier than ever, he got about ten meters away from Rada and threw a big fireball at him.

Rada made a sideways jerk and dodged.

"SHIT!" he cursed fearfully.

Whatever it was, how could it breathe fire? This didn't make sense at all, he just wanted to get out of there, as quickly as possible.

The sound of the waterfall was near, open space was beginning to be glimpsed.

Under the rain of fireballs, Rada didn't hesitate to stop at all, he had burns everywhere, he was even bleeding from her head, not to mention his back, but it didn't matter.

A little further on she saw the river bed, it was huge, he could hardly see the other side, the currents seemed very powerful, you could hear the deafening noise of their flow.

He decided to follow the river, even if he was well aware of the fact that from such a river, could only result in a waterfall of unprecedented proportions.

"Damned human! I won't even leave your bones!" the big wolf could very well understand what Rada's intentions were.

He knew this area perfectly, he knew about the waterfall, and if he jumped from there, even he would have trouble finding him.

The big wolf stopped throwing fireballs and started with a full-scale assault. From its mouth came glowing lava, in a few seconds a sea of lava was chasing Rada at an incredible speed.

The air became heavy, smoke surrounded the entire area, his body began to feel the effects, his gait became slower and slower, now it was his will that sent him forward.

There was very little left, the cliff was there, about ten meters away from him, he gritted his teeth and continued to advance.

With every step he was closer to his goal.

The sight of that human continuing his run undaunted, with an iron will, sent the big wolf into a state of madness.

"DAMN IT!"

He stopped spitting lava and launched himself at the boy, made a towering leap that almost completely closed the distance with his prey.

His fangs were ready to spear him. He would have eaten him along with the pup if Rada hadn't avoided him with another side step.

He couldn't avoid it entirely, however; his shoulder suffered a deep wound, even bone could be glimpsed. But throttling the pain of the moment, the adrenaline was too high, as were the stakes.

They were now at the end of the line, one last effort and it was done.

Rada was exhausted, reduced to a pitiful condition, he could feel his left arm losing feeling, due to the shoulder wound.

Covered in blood and burns, his will continued to stand firm though, as did his spirit.

"There is no such thing as pain! Never give up!"

Those were the teachings of his teacher, who although practically his age he respected so much.

He was almost there, the waterfall was immense, not allowing a glimpse of any detail downstream.

Rada hesitated a few seconds and turned around.

The big flaming wolf was in front of him, ready to eat him at any moment, just waiting for the right one.

"Human, give me the pup you're carrying and maybe I can let you go!" the big wolf stated his terms lying through his teeth.

Rada looked him in the eye and gave a mocking smirk, in that moment where life and death were one, he put aside fear and everything else.

He only had a great desire not to give him up.

"Uhmmm... Dying at the hands of a waterfall or being eaten alive by a slightly overgrown bastard? Sorry, but the comparison doesn't hold up!".

Without a moment's hesitation Rada jumped back and braced herself for the fall.

"DAMN YOU!!!"

The human's behavior made the big wolf mad. How could a vile human speak to the greatest hunter in the forest like that?

Out of his mouth came a sea of flames that he hurled at the boy.

Without wasting any time, Rada closed in, he only had to wait until he fell to escape.

However, the flames were too high, he would have died even before falling into the water.

Suddenly, a light exploded from the bag and jumped on him.

"Little Kiba!"

The puppy was imbued with a shining aura that extended over Rada as well and protected him from the glowing flames as they fell into the arms of the waterfall, disappearing completely.

"AWOOOOOO!"

The large wolf's explosion of rage, caused devastation and flames over the entire surroundings.

He watched the depths of the waterfall carefully and tried to smell the two, but nothing, they had completely disappeared swallowed by the waterfall.

He was exasperated.

"That damn human!"

He had missed the right opportunity to complete his task, however he knew that they could not get out of the waterfall unharmed in that condition.

After calming down, he could do nothing but turn around and head back into the heart of the forest.

Rada's survival instinct eventually won out against the giant wolf pack and its hellish leader.

Even little Kiba, unexpectedly, made an important contribution. A contribution that would forever mark the relationship between the two.
