Chereads / The Focus House / Chapter 3 - Kill the Beast

Chapter 3 - Kill the Beast

After she got home from the meeting which turned to an unexpected date, she couldn't stop remembering the werewolf painting at Jeff's house. She took a pencil and a paper starting to sketch the exact image of the werewolf painting and she suddenly stopped furious and crunching the paper and threw it away muttering to herself "I think I'm losing my mind… Werewolves are no friends!" She blew the candle on the bedside cupboard and all the candles around the house were off as she went to sleep tucking herself with the blanket.

The next morning she heard someone knocking on the door and it was 7.00 am on the alarm clock on her bedside and the sunrise lightening up her room. Mornings are not Elena's favorite, but who can expect otherwise from a vampire. She walked to the door with drowsy eyes and messy still gorgeous yet sleepy. She opened a door and it was a delivery man handing over a package saying "Ms. Vincent?" She replied with a drowsy voice "Yes"

"There is a package for you" He handed over a well-packed package and asked her to sign on the delivery book he was holding in front of her name. She closed the door and opened the package, and to see it was her new mobile she ordered borrowing the phone that belonged to the cleaning lady. She removed the SIM card in the old phone that was kept on the little dining table near the kitchen and put it into the new phone powering it on as she walked back to her bedroom.

She accessed the internet and searched for the name typing "Author Millie Wilson" The search results showed she the author had five books which were published named The Pink Dress, A Kind Gesture, The love, Dreams, and the fifth book called Gone with Hate. She checked her emergency box and there was no money left to buy any books since she paid the rent and for a new phone. It was cold a luring night to get some blood into her system and as she jumps off the balcony and hypnotizes a butcher in a different town, she enjoys the sharp fangs going through the flesh of a goat sucking its blood until the creature turns pale and lifeless than a clean cut from a butcher's knife. The same night is a moment for Jeff to turn into the beautiful beast jumps over the tall wall that secures the residence and running off to the woods opposite of the road. As it walks it starts it walks up to a higher ground taking a step after another with its strong paws and howling into the darkness.

It's early morning starting a new week and Jeff wakes up walking into his fancy kitchen and opens the refrigerator and takes out a packet of meat. In an ordinary world of humans, the breakfast that involves meat needs some cook on a pan. But to Jeff, some nice juicy raw meat will be sufficient for a quick breakfast for a werewolf. When he turns into a werewolf it can run and jump distance and height faster and better than a cheetah but it cannot turn into an animal to run to the Focus House located in the middle of the urban surrounded by a busy town. Therefore he is driven in one of his fancy cars by his driver Mark while Elena can simply just reappear without changing her appearance but there is no way someone can just disappear and appear in the ordinary world of humans.

Elena appears behind the Focus house building wearing a dark blue pencil dress that shows her fine curves beautifully. She walks into the reception but the receptionist tries her best to pretend as she never sees her walking in, doing her best to avoid a slight smile. Elena walks past her and as she walks through the double towards her office muttering in a sarcastic tone "What a jealous human!"

Jeff has already arrived and seeing Elena arriving at the office and sitting down in her seat as he looks at her fine body. There is a knock at the door and Jennifer walks in with a warm smile towards Elena saying "Hey! Did you have breakfast?" Elena responded "No! I was thinking of getting something on the way but I was already late!"

Jennifer replied with an exciting "Oh that's good…. because I brought you some breakfast from the place down the street. They just opened the place recently and their street burgers are just heavy. I got you some smoked turkey and I hope that's okay with you!"

Elena felt so grateful for this sweet lady and she replied in a pleasing soft voice "Oh I love smoked turkey…Thank you, Jen, this is very sweet you! We can have it here if you were not planning to eat while you work." Jen replied sitting on the visitor chair "Oh no I don't eat while I work it's just too distracting for me unless I just have to read or something that just needs my eyes to work on."

They both giggled with their pleasing feminine voices and there was a knock on the door and Jeff opened the door while leaning into the office room saying with a pleasant smile "Sorry for the interruption ladies! Elena once you are done can you come to my office for a sec?" Elena responded "Sure" with a slight smile looking at him, and suddenly noticed that Jennifer was looking at the back and forth with a funny look on her face. Jeff closed the door and Elena pretended to be busy eating as Jennifer looks at Elena with a sarcastic smile.

Elena knocks on the door and opens walking into Jeff's office and sees a mature overweight man wearing a brown leather jacket with a high neck t-shirt and jeans. "Ah, Elena! This is Mr. Christopher Bale and he is one of our top publishing agents who always touches the best author and their work with us. I thought it's a good idea for you to have a chat with him about the academic and textbook publishing idea you suggested."

He turned to Christopher and introduced Elena saying "This is Ms. Elena Vincent, and she is our editor in chief!" Elena looked at Jeff fully surprised to hear who she is at the company. She did sit at the place the previous editor in chief was and in the office allocated for that position, but she was not aware she was the editor in chief who came to start from scratch as a full-time employee in the publishing business.

Elena looked at the man and he gave out his hand saying "Hi Elena, It's a pleasure to meet you! She replied in polite and in a formal voice "Likewise!"

Christopher said "It's a great thing deciding to expand the genre, in one way it is a business expansion, and on the other, it is a great awareness. Focus House publisher's books in almost every corner reaching out to many types of books stores and readers joints is a great strategy."

"Yes with the demand for textbooks and academic readings it is a great expansion we believe" Elena replied giving a quick look at Jeff to see his approval. Jeff seemed impressed with how the conversation took place and told Elena in a calm deep voice "Great! I am looking forward to seeing what we can do in this regard. Then…Please discuss with Christopher and I believe you can take it from here Elena…Let me know if you need anything!"

Elena responded with a slight nod "Yes, thank you!" As they left Jeff's office and entered Elena's office. As Elena was walking before Christopher asking him to take a seat, Jeff notices Christopher checking out Elena's fine body from the back before she turns to face him and sits in her seat through the one-way sticker. Jeff was filled with anger and jealousy seeing the man checking out the woman he fell in love with at the first sight. He had a pencil in his hand going through some figures on a report, and looking at the discomforting moment of his dream woman being checked out by another man instantly broke the pencil in half with his strong crunching fingers that were bending the edges of the pencil. There was a knock on the door and Bob walked in with some artwork to be approved and asked "Jeff are you alright?" Jeff looked and replied with a stern voice "Yes! What happened with the new illustrations for the Walkers book branding?"

Bob replied, "That's still in process with the graphic designers, but we will be able to finish it by tomorrow." Jeff yelled with a furious look on his face "How long does it take to finish some damn marketing artworks, that is all that you people have to do.....To design! You and your department work like sloths I tell you! Like sloths…." Jeff calmed himself down and apologized in a low voice "I am sorry Bob, just get those out as fast as you can, okay? Bob replied calmly "Yes will do that!" It was no delay pressure that gave Jeff the unexpected reactions it was a wave of different anger that comes with love and jealousy.

In the meantime in the cold freezing forest somewhere way out of the urban were five men that had strong eyes grey, black, and green. They were well-built slender and three tall as Jeff and two average. They were seated around the rocks, on top of tree branches, and standing around a circle having a meeting. One with green eyes and blond side combed hair, tall wearing high neck sweater and jeans said "We got to take the best time to track Ferris is if not finding the son of Rollin is not going to be an easy task!" The guy with grey eyes and dark brown hair said, Listen Colin… It is being close to almost twenty-five years and we are chasing revenge on someone who is nothing close to our kind! It is a threat to have human blood among us somewhere but Rollin's son is a half-blooded beast way less than any of us." Colin looked at Adolf frowning his eyebrows and started walking closer and closer to him saying in a rough voice "You coward! It is much more disgusting than having human blood among us when a full-blooded useless creature does not fight for our kind! He got close saying "Adolph… You are nothing more than just rotten meat covered with some great fur that you do not deserve." Adolph punched his face with his strong fist making Colin bleed from his nose as the rest of the three guys were watching the steaming argument. A woman walked towards them with white hair and grey eyes wearing a long black trench coat, and a black high neck long A-line dress uttering in a commanding voice "Enough!" Walking towards them and grabbing Adolph by his neck and pushing him towards a bark of a tree. She got close to his face looking at his eyes whispering "Either you kill that half-blooded beast, or you will be the one killed and you will feel the pain shredded by our sharp werewolf teeth, tasting your flesh and we will be having you as our treat of celebrating the kill of a dishonest member of our family!" She stepped away from him starting to walk back into the woods and suddenly paused her calm walk.

She turned around saying "I might know how to help you track down that Ferris… The last time I spoke to him he mentioned a girl named Wendy. He met her when he was here working at the City Bank. Find out the names of employees and past employees of past five years in that place and once you do trace everything…. The places she goes, to whom she speaks, the phone calls, who she sees in person, and where she lives…Everything! Clear?"

Colin nodded yes to the woman in the black long coat and turned around to the other saying "We got work to do! Find out this Wendy is, and Adolph…. I am keeping my eyes on you! Do this the way you are supposed to or you heard Nia didn't you? Celebrating the kill of a dishonest beast!" Adolph starred at Colin with a disgusted look as he went away.
