Chapter 120 - 120 - cost of mercy

*

I held my heart tightly in my chest with a deep breath before I regained my composure. He seemed to have gotten faster than me, but his nonsensical battle style was easy to read. I did a preliminary dodge as I sliced my vacuum blade at my previous position, sure enough his fist got caught in the trajectory and it the blade swiped through cleanly.

The fist dropped on the ground and I stomped on it before he could reattach it. Following the stomp was his attack, so I blocked by holding my elbows high and covering my vitals. Sure enough, an intense punch rang out loudly against the surroundings as a heavy mountain splitting impact struck my arms. My endurance stat wasn't high but my enhancements barely brought it up high enough so I could walk off with some broken bones.

My bones healed as quickly as possible, but I lept low to dodge the next attack and gave time for them to heal. I cracked my fingers, waiting for the next attack from the enemy. They had missed a few time already, so they should be getting irritated and unfocused. At that moment, I heard a deep and bellowing voice right behind my ear. I looked down and his arm had already impaled my hear but I lopped it off and jump to make distance.

"I can change my location now." (?)

Like editing a file location, he could bring it anywhere he wants but he couldn't edit the time. He could teleport now but he shouldn't be able to time travel. If he could time travel then he should have killed my past self, but it seems I'm still alive right now. There's no making sure that he couldn't do it though. It was simply put that he hadn't done it, it didn't mean he couldn't do it.

I leapt once more to swing my sword at his torso, both his arms were gone so I had less to be wary about. But... He vanished and reappeared right in front of me, his knee kick sending a loud smashing sound as it collided with my stomach.

"Hagh?!"

I spat blood on the ground, my lips bloodied by my internal bleeding. Was that his normal strategy, or did he...

"Hahah! I can read information from the future and the past. How convenient! Without a brain, I no longer have a limit." (?)

What a joke... If he starts reading the future... Then my fighting style wouldn't be so useful anymore... I could feel my heartbeat quickening as more adrenaline is pumped in. My body can't hold up these enhancements any longer, if I hold Magia Retainment for too long I'll just destroy my own body... I had been using my second passive, minor recoil management to redirect all the excess energy into my punches... But eventually it'll be too much for my passive to handle...

My bones creak and scream in silence, my body moves despite being worn out. I was beginning to reach my limit, but I can't stop this now. Punches rain upon my body like what I had done to him earlier, my nose bloodied and my joints cry. He had formed new arms out of the dirt from the ground and the minced flesh his previous arms left.

My entire body... Can't feel the pain.

So I reach my arm in to make an attack he cannot avoid. Despite my numerous injuries and my fatigued mind, I see no end in sight. I see no fathomable way that I would let him kill me. Before that, I will take his life first. I will erase his being.

My fingers crane in and wrap around his neck firmly in the barrage of deadly punches he was throwing. It causes a snapping sound. Despite being able to see the future, he didn't bother to see too far ahead. He let his guard down once I let him rain his punches without dodging his attacks. In his mind, he believed I was done. Just because I let out my melancholic expression that I've begun to wear all the time, he believed that I was at my wits end.

It was simple yet effective, he loss himself to the fun of killing and beating me up. He wanted to return the favour instead of simply impaling my brain. This was completely his lost, without a body to control, he can't touch me. Unless he were to sacrifice parts of his spirit body by turning them into weapons. He could make his arm into an incredibly dense blade of magical particles, but in that instant I punched his head away into mince meat.

Then I hopped and slammed my knee to pulverised the rest of his body. As usual, fluid had begun to leak from his rotting corpse. But it wasn't red like human blood. Is was a mix of dirty brown and yellow, it was a completely dead corpse with no blood like a human being's. I buried his unrecognisable body with the nearby soil, lifting the soil with my magic and then dumping it over his body. I stomped on the soil to cave it deep into the ground.

He does not deserve the respect afforded to righteous human beings. Most of all, he had erased the last traces of myself. I see no reason to grant him any mercy. I see traces of his spirit gathering above the buried corpse, it gathers into his shapely face as it gradually forms an entire body. Smoke was given off from his ethereal transparent light blue form. He looked like glass waiting to be shattered. But it was fine. These palms, these fingers and bones. My entire body was ready to go for round 3.

No matter how many times he came back, I'll kill him.

Trapping the area in a barrier with my second skill, I used my propulsion technique on him, which causes magical particles to combust with the wind. When magical particles are activated, they either transmit their energy into magic or they explode. In this case, they act as both the fuel and the ignition. Meaning, I directly combust his spirit body into pieces as he tries to form a humanoid shape.

"Wait?! Sto-! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! " (?)

His anguish screams of pain echoed outwards. What? Did he think he had a chance to win in spirit form? Now that he has lost his physical shell, he was more vulnerable, especially for a magical girl. Because anyone could do this, I simply can do it better because of my practice and my first skill causing more effect combustion. I didn't even need to touch him, as long as he was within my barrier, I could lightly control all the magical particles in here. It could be said to be a pseudo Oblivon Magia. Though it's not like a real one where I can use magic inside my opponent's body.

"Urgh! OBLIVION MAGIA!" (?)

Why didn't he use it earlier? The only difference... Was that he had now ascended. I see, he could use it now that his well increased. But he should have been able to do it before. I completely overlooked it since I couldn't use it myself, but he had probably used it to escape Myuu and the rest, from the initial battle before my memory lost. Looks like I really picked the right time when he was cornered. No matter, I won't show mercy now just because he was weakened and not at full operation.

He tries to use the technique now, a black murky shadow extends from his feet and began to form a dome with its wall forming directly behind him... But it shatters with the sound of glass breaking. My vacuum blade was not only physical in nature, it also absorbed magic into its edges. It easily shattered his weaken Oblivion Magia, his last ditch attempt of winning. His face finally contort into that of a scared mouse.

He falls on his ass, grasping frantically into the air. His throat screamed and what seemed to be tears flowed out of his incorporeal face.

"WAIT! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'll restore your memories, so please let me live!" (?)

"Really?"

I stepped closer to him.

"No. Final skill-" (?)

I wasn't planning on sparing him anyway. I trusted my blade into his mouth as he spoke and dice him completely in half. Then I combusted his body slowly as more of his hellish screams leaked out. It was coming from a spirit yet it sounded so human.

It was a pain I couldn't understand as I was a human, and a pain I could no longer experience as my receptors no longer worked. Living felt like dragging a dead body now, it felt worthless and empty. So I didn't particularly fear death and only focused on killing him. I didn't bother learning his name nor do I intend to. Oh yeah... He was part of some cult with that dragonoid... Maybe I should wipe out that cult.

His body gradually converted into activated magical particles and flames dying the air red. It was a cool morning after midnight, yet the area was now brightly lit. His legs were the first to go, first seperating them then combusting the entire thing at once. Same goes with the arms. All that was left was a wide eyes mouth agape spirit with nothing but a torso and head. It looked so creepy as well that I wanted nothing to do with it. But I might as well finish up this job.

"r... Right! Women! I own... The nearby brothel... If you let me go, I'll let you have the entire business.... I'll give you everything you want... Just let me go..." (?)

What an irredeemable human being... Wait no, now he was a monster through and through. Why is this monster speaking a human language? How odd. Not that it changed anything. I combusted his entire torso and neck, leaving nothing left behind but a screaming head. Then I stomped on it with my foot. Usually I use the propulsion technique beneath my my feet, it was thinly covered with a shoe made of a soft material. It extended to the back of feet and then upwards towards my calve with 2 sharp protrusions.

Compound technique, 2nd skill for ignition, 1st skill for orientation - super hollow propulsion. Over and over, it burst into flames and left a small crater into the ground. The head was now completely gone, all the magical particles had been spent up. There was also no more vessel or core to house the cognitive functions of a spirit, all of it was gone. There was no more way to restore my memories anyway, why should I have spared you?

So I didn't. There was no shame, no regret and no satisfaction. I vented out my sadness, because it was all I had left. Not much time had past since we were moving at ultra fast speeds. What seemed like a long battle had actually ended in less than an hour. Perhaps I should head back. I feel a familiar presence near my vicinity, but I choose not to pay it any mind.

"Heheh... Hehe hahaha?! I killed him, aren't I suppose to feel satisfied? Aren't my memories suppose to come... Back..."

I walked in the middle of the night with burnt marks on my magical combat dress and dripping tears. I had to wipe my tears away to see the road in front of me clearly, yet they just kept flowing out. What am I suppose to do... To fill in this hole? I can't... I don't know... My mind returned to its confusing state as it lost its focus on killing that enemy. I release my Magia Retainment as I didn't want to alert the others.

I snuck out after all. It was a way to appease this emptiness, but even after the long and risky fight, I felt nothing. My body weeps for me, my mind hides in its own chaos. Thankfully I couldn't use Oblivion Magia, as it would be much more chaotic than that enemy's.

I dragged my feet into the guest room and collapsed onto my sofa. My conscious left in an instant, my vision a deep black. For a short moment, it felt like all the busyness and pain was gone. Then it was morning. It turned out 3 employees were killed by that assassin. Kyou had blamed herself for the deaths of all 3 and isolated herself in her own room. Even now that everything was done, the damage had been done.

We all met up in the morning, all our expressions were gloomy. No one spoke until Palmicia brought out a piece of paper, the light flipping of pages made it to my ears. It was an urgent report done by an employee.

"Hey... My reports say last night there was a large spike of magical particle activations near that abandoned construction site..." (Palmicia)

My eyes may look soulless, but some joy had crept into my heart from that mention. So I gave everyone a teeth baring grin.
