Chapter 7 - Kesh

Walking around Kesh, Sargon noticed how he was able to read all the signs and words around him. He decided to thank God for the language boon he discovered just now noticed. Pharis has led him to the market area first where the stores and stalls were.

"This area is where all the best shops are in the city, Sir Sargon. You buy food, clothes, weapons, armor, general items, jewelry, and everything else you can think of. You will be able to find everything here unless it is super hard to find. There are other shops around the city, but they are small and people don't go to them unless they need really cheap stuff."

Pharis explained the area well to Sargon. He knew that the armor and weapon shops wouldn't of much use to him since he has merged his equipment with his astral horizon. As the equipment grows in strength along with him, he doesn't need to worry about buying more.

Pharis then lead them to the area adjacent to the market area. It is called the rest area because all the inns and restaurants fill the area. Pharis explained, "All the inns and restaurants are in this area. The inns are on one side of the area while the restaurants are on the other side. They are divided by the main street. A couple of the rowdier establishments are on the same side as the cheaper inns though."

Sargon thought that he would probably lodge in one of the inns in this area. While they were strolling through, he decided to ask Faris some general knowledge questions. He turned to her, " What do you know about knights and knight errant like me Pharis?"

Pharis thought before answering, "Knights are people who have been trained to fight since they could walk. They know how to use most weapons very well and learn an unknown one easily. They can also use many different skills and powers. Each of them is unique in how they fight. There are female knights although they are uncommon. Most usually swear fealty to a noble or royal house. The knights that swear to an oath instead are much more and called knight errant. They are not treated like other knights. Everyone knows they are always fighting or looking for another fight to get stronger, their code is their honor and they fight in accordance with it. Most of the codes align with goodness, but a few do not. This is why even nobles and royals show them respect for their honor and glory. They can even more authority than nobles if they have a strong prestige from their feats and battles. Many of them are adventurers as well. That is about all I know Sir."

Sargon was satisfied with his answer. He can go on his own crusade in this world and create his own legend. With his long lifespan, he got excited about how he could make a magnificent legend for himself over the centuries. While dreaming of his future, they had reached the next area.

"This is the guild area. There are the adventurers guild, merchants guild, blacksmith guild, alchemist guild, crafters guild, and magic guild. Beyond this area is the auction area. It is between this guild area and the gilded area where only members of high society and their workers/servants are allowed to enter."

Going through the guild area, Sargon noticed that some people around the adventurer and magic guilds had an astral body that was very vibrant and harder to look deep into. 'Perhaps their strength is what makes it harder to peer into their astral body.'

He pondered more about astral bodies when he went through the auction area. He noticed slaves being strung around in the auction area. He was never a fan of it. It went against his code, therefore it went against his morals. As the sun was beginning to set, he decided to walk back to the rest area. On the way, Sargon asked Pharis more questions.

"Tell me about the adventurers and mages."

"Sure thing Sir. Adventurers are fighters that do quest issued by their guild. They have a ranking system to measure their own power. From lowest to highest, it goes, bone, stone, bronze, iron, steel, titanium, malachite, ebony, etherite, Ultanium, then finally Vernum. For mages, it is a novice, acolyte, apprentice, mage, wizard, sorcerer, magus, arch-magus, archon, sage, then magician. Humans and most other races use magic. This is why there is only a magic guild that was made. I have heard of other energies existing, but that is it."

"Thank you Pharis, now can you recommend me an inn for the night?"

"Of course Sir, you want to go to the Calm Willow inn. They have the proper rooms for someone as awesome as you.". Pharis said with a smile. There was a small hint of sadness that their time is coming to an end. Sargon took a really close look at Pharis's Astral body. He saw that she had a strong will. A tough mind that allowed her to keep her honesty despite her poor circumstances. What is more, is that compared to all the other astral bodies he has seen, hers was very strong. Its light was very solid and more pronounced in its color. Although her body was a little thin and a little short, he saw no mechanical flaws in it. He decided to ask her a far more heavy question.

"Do you have a family Pharis?"

She answered with a sad smile, "I do not have any family Sir. It is just me."

Sargon was pleased yet sad with that answer, "Then how about joining me as my squire? I strongly believe you are suitable to be trained as a knight. Despite your age, I can tell you have a good head on your shoulders and strong will. These will be able to make up for the older age. You have potential. Will you take me as your master and train to become a knight?"

Sargon made this offer for a reason. He could see the immense potential she has with her strong astral body. She could learn to use astra and be excellent with it. Anything less than the potential for excellence wouldn't push him to make this offer. Since female knights exist in this world, he had no reason to hesitate.

Pharis was surprised by the offer and was left stunned before her answer. She still answered surely, "I will take you as my master Sir Sargon! Thank you thank you thank you!". She was ecstatic that she could now train to be a knight.

"Then you are now under my charge. I will make you into a knight of legend. Nothing less is acceptable. Remember this Pharis, you are a squire of Jupiter. No one can bully you now, look down on you either. If they do, do not falter. If they are stronger, I will show them strength. When you become a knight, you will be a warrior in a league of your own. Now let us go secure our lodging for the night.

They made their way to the Calm Willow Inn. They booked a room for three days which was 6 silver coins. They got perplexed stares seeing a knight errant with a dirty kid with him, but they paid them no mind. He had a maid take Pharis to get cleaned up with a bath. He would get her some proper clothes tomorrow. After she returned, they laid on their beds and went to sleep. the next day will be a busy one.
