Chapter 10 - I Love my mother

Okay disclaimer, I don't have an Oedipus Complex.

With that said, I really do love her. Before you think it's because of her blessing, just understand she literally does everything a mother should. She takes care of me, clothes me, and now teaches me in perfectly understandable ways in only a few sentences. She even breast feeds me. Okay wait that's weird I'm on old soul in a baby's body sucking on my mothers tit. This should be strange but, for some reason when she does it, it's almost angelic. She's sacrificing herself for me.

[You've really fallen down the rabbit hole here.]

"Oh shut it, you wish to have half the perfection of my mother." I talked out loud in my bed.

Oh yea that's a new thing I can do. I can speak out loud and end up writing it in the log. I used to do it unconsciously but now I can do it on command. Really helps with practicing language.

[Which is a good thing too since you can consciously realize your really deep down the rabbit hole. If I distinctly remember, your old self saw me to be the most beautiful woman you had ever seen]

"Don't you dare pervert my mother with those old foolish thoughts of mine. My mother is purity itself." I was talking to myself again.

[So you admit you were having perverted thoughts about me. Glad to know you aren't a degenerate for your mom and you at least have taste]

... so many conflicting responses I want to give to that so I'm not gonna say anything at all.

[Well that says enough about me. Anyway, you were talking about your alchemy training]

Ah yes so my mother was teaching me alchemy. In my old world, Alchemy was the precursor to modern day chemistry, and it dealt with some more philosophical subjects at times.

There was two goals of alchemy traditionally. The transfer of one element into another or the synthesis of an elixir of life. Of course modern particle physics and nuclear processes eventually inadvertently achieved the first; the second was sadly never accomplished.

And luckily the Alchemy in this world deals with both goals a well. Alchemy in this world is traditionally the manipulation of life forces and energies in a combination of materials to create all manner of effects including medicine and potions. There's said to even be medicines that extend your life but the materials to create such tonics are so rare, they have scarcely been found all at the same time.

At the same time Alchemy can only be performed by a Druid. Even alchemy that has nothing to do with medicines and tonics and has more to do with metallurgy, is considered Druid only. This is due to druids having a specific connection to nature and everything it provides including inanimate materials.

Alchemy is a result of the combination of knowledge from two of the three schools of study to druids. The first one is the School of Nature's Wrath which deals with elements. Masters of this school command control over Blizzards, Typhoons, Heat waves, Earthquakes, Etcetera. There are apparently other classes across the desert that deal with the elements but I have zero access to them at this point. This school at its limit can manipulate the four fundamental forces of Gravity, Electromagnetism, and the small and weak nuclear force. The druids call them something else though and usually their manipulated at minor levels. An example is the strong force being referred to as manipulating suns light energy while the weak being it's burning properties.

I haven't confirmed that last part, but all my reading confirm it. It's two outlandish for me to believe it outright though so I'm taking that bit as a "proof or it never happened" situation.

The second school is called the Life school and primarily deals with the transfer and use of biological material. Masters in this school can gather life energy from plants around them and spread poison should they choose to. They can change their biology on a whim to better fit a situation like enhanced smell and hearing. This school of thought was said to have the ability to shape shift but that was lost over time. Regardless of that, it said that they have some of the scariest forbidden Magic's that are able to affect the physiology of others like cause a frenzy by changing brain wave patterns. (I didn't find this out then, but at some point I heard a story of a Druid that was able to resurrect someone. This is likely the scariest ability and also seems to go against the philosophy of the druids. This ability sounds nonsensical and falls more in line with necromancy)

The final school which has nothing to do with Alchemy is called the School of Nature's Servants. This school deals with contracted summons, animals, and fauna found in the wild. It's simultaneously the weakest yet the strongest school for its versatility. The only requirement is communication. If you can convince the plants around you to fight for you, you'd be pretty deadly in a forest. It's said Druids who study this art are usually contracted to powerful beasts who protect them.

Now from what I understand, most of the Druidic Magics are carried out through using mana as a medium than the cause of the effect itself. Meaning, A Druid barely uses any personal mana. They use their already existing mana to connect to their surroundings to cause different phenomena. This is what's commonly known as Nature's Language. Whether a Druid connects to a living being to change their life forces or to the ambient mana in the sky to cause a thunderstorm, it's all the same process. It's very a-personal. I'm sure druids aren't the only practitioners of magic on this continent, the Goddess confirmed that, I just don't know where they are so I'm going to have to learn the art of communicating to nature first.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I think druids are pussies. Don't get me wrong I'm not some power hungry maniac, but communicating to nature sounded so weak to me I had to reorganize it. I had to quantify exactly what my mana was doing whenever I tried something to make it seem less theatrical.

Druids basically open a channel using my mana to anything in the surrounding area first. Whatever I connect to and how It affects it are the subjects of the three different schools of thought being Mana on Mana for nature's wrath, Mana on Life Force for the life school, and Mana on conscious thoughts for Nature's Servant. A Druid does not store a lot of mana in their bodies so it's not like cultivating. Instead your soul for lack of a better term become a hub for information exchange using mana with your surroundings which is what being close to nature really means. Being a better Druid means more connections. It is really that simple.

[If you knew your simple explanation of Druids was simultaneously the most perfect yet aggravating description I've ever heard would you believe me?]

"Yes I would actually. I was a scientist my whole life on Earth. I practically grew up on the scientific method, categorizing data, and oversimplifying complex things to make them easier to understand. I have a whole planet's teaching's of their brightest minds on my side. I may not be confident in myself to get it right, but I do believe in the 4000 years of human progress on Earth to at least point me to the correct method to understand something.", I say aloud to the sky.

[Thats an oddly very self conscious yet prideful description of yourself]

"I'm curiously prideful. I'll quantify the world at this rate." I said while making a fist bump

[Hate to burst your bubble but you do realize the procedures of any of the Druidic schools are akin to surgery with your mind. Plus It doesn't get easier after this in any other magic type]

"I know which it's why I intend to find a way to increase my intelligence and wisdom. Speaking of which", I said excitedly.

"S.L.A.D. Statistics", I thought.

"Hmm there's been a few changes like my species and skills. It also looks like I'm getting stronger at a very fast pace. It won't be long before I can walk out on my own." I said out loud excitedly.

Now whether the tree in the corner has thought I've gone insane from talking to myself, I haven't gotten the balls to ask yet.
