Chapter 11 - Getting Our Wands

(20th August 1991)

Harry and I were running down Diagon Alley, carrying all of our equipment in our hands. Its the fourth day in Diagon Alley trying to collect all the supplies needed for school. We were trying to keep up with Hagrid. A step for him was almost a meter for us. I tried calling out to Hagrid but he keeps striding onwards and then somewhat vanished into the massive crowd of people. The only thing that we could see was his head with his long hair bopping up and down with every step he took.

" Hagrid, wait up!" I shouted before coming to a stop. Due to my sudden halt, Harry ended up running right into the back of me and fell down on the floor, taking me with him. All of our books, quills and ink landed on the floor next to us.

" Uh, I'm so sorry, Iris." Harry groans from beside me.

" Don't worry about it," I say as I stand up. I looked down at Harry then offered my hand to him, which he gladly accepted, then pulled him back to us feet. Harry's eyes then attached themselves onto my white blouse. I followed his gaze down to my blouse. Well, I thought it was white. My blouse was covered in my quill ink.

" Oh c'mon, really?" I say with a tint of annoyance in my tone.

" Iris, I didn't mean to," Harry says in guilt

" No, it wasn't your fault. I shouldn't have stopped like that." I say whilst I place a comforting hand on his shoulder. Harry then pats my hand then leans down to pick up is equipment, I soon do the same. Once I picked up my books, I held them towards my chest so they covered the ink stain on my blouse.

" Ay' I thought I lost the both of ye'" A voice says from behind us. I then turned around and make eye contact with the friendly giant.

" Hagrid!" Harry exclaims.

" Well? What happened?" Hagrid questions.

" We couldn't really keep up to you, Hagrid." I answer.

" Merlin's Beard! You should've told me," Hagrid says annoyed.

" Well, I kind of tried to. But I guess you didn't hear me," I say.

Hagrid sighs then looks down at his pocket watch. " We are running behind schedule, we gotta hurry if ya' both want to get your wands."

" Wands?" Harry questions.

" We can't do magic without our wands, Harry." I speak.

" C'mon you two, we need to hurry," Hagrid says before leading us two somewhere.

I open the door and allowed Harry to step in before me then I walked in behind him. Automatically, my attention went to the shelves that surround the shop, they all contain boxes which I presume have wands inside of them.

" Hello?" I say as I continue to look around the shop.

BANG!

I quickly turn around and look into the far-right corner of the shop, there was a man on a ladder. His face wore a shocked expression.

" I wondered when I'd be seeing you, Miss and Mr. Potter. It seems only yesterday that your mother and father were in here buying their first wands," The man says in awe. He then reaches up and grabs two boxes before he made his way over to us.

" Here, gives this a try," The man says as he passes the both of us a box each. Harry holds out his wand but nothing happens. " Well, give it a wave," Comes from the man. Harry is hesitant at first but then waves his wand. This causes most of the boxes to come flying out and crashing down around us.

" Apparently not," The seller says. He then goes and grabs another box and passes it to Harry. Harry then opens the box and takes out the wand and waves it in the direction of a vase, which then shatters onto the floor.

" No, no, definitely not! No matter..." The man says in a panic. He then gets a wand from a box, but stops and becomes very hesitant. " I wonder," He hands the wand to Harry. No sooner after he touched it, Harry suddenly glows under it, blowing his hair up and several of the paperwork in the background. The shop owner looked a bit surprised and deep in thought.

" Curious, very curious," he says admiring Harry.

"Sorry, but what's curious?" Harry questions.

" I remember every wand I've ever sold, Mr. Potter. It just so happens that the phoenix, whose tail feather resides in your wand gave one other feather, just one. It is curious that you should be destined for this wand when its brother gave you that scar," The man says as he points to the lightning bolt scar on my brother's forehead.

"And... who owned that wand?" Harry asks as he starts becoming curious.

" Oh, we do not speak his name. The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter. It's not always clear why, but I think it is clear that we can expect great things from you. After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things...terrible, yes, but great." The man then turns to me and examines my form.

" Now, Miss Potter. Your turn."

" I'm afraid I never received a name, Sir." I say with sarcasm.

" My name is Ollivander," he states. Ollivander then becomes deep in thought as he rummages around some boxes. " Found it!"

Ollivander then walks back in front of me and shows me the wand in his hand and I recognized it straight away. The wand has small butterfly designs carved on the handle, and it was made out of Willow wood. This wand belongs to.

" Lily Potter. This wand belonged to your mother, Iris." Ollivander said. I couldn't believe it; this man had my mother's wand but how? He wasn't present at the time of my parents' death so there is no possible way for him to collect the wand. Unless, someone went back to the scene when I wasn't there.

" Miss Potter? Are you going to give it a try?" Ollivander questions. Taking a deep breath, I take the wand from him and hold it out facing the shelves with all the boxes that contain the wands. Without saying anything, one of the boxes started to levitate and make its way towards me and then dropped on Ollivander's desk. " The wand has chosen you, Miss Potter. This could be a sign that you may hold the same powers as your mother."

" Powers? My mother had powers?" I question.

" Ah yes she did, she was quite a powerful lady," The man says to me.

BANG! BANG!

Came from the shop window. I quickly turn around and lock eyes with a beautiful, snow-white owl that was engaged inside of a owl cage.

" Harry! Iris! I got a gift for you guys to share," Hagrid shouts. I then turn to Harry and find him looking at the owl in amazement.

" Wait, Miss Potter!" Ollivander shouts towards me before I can get to the door.

"Yes?" I turn around to face him. Once I was facing his way, he raised his wand and aims it on the stain of my shirt before muttering something. I look down at my blouse and the stain that was once there is now gone.

" Iris!" Harry grabs my hand and drags me towards the door outside to Hagrid. I turn my head to see if the man was still there but he was gone. Uncle Vernon was wrong: there is such thing as magic.
