Chapter 16 - Meeting New People

(2nd September 1991)

It was an autumn afternoon. The sun was shining bright, leaves dancing as they made their way down to the floor. Sometimes you could catch a few butterflies.

My Mother stood at the foot of garden, planting more of her famous roses. Many being ruby red and light bubble gum pink. However, one flower stood out to us and people that came and visited. It was a light periwinkle. My mother always said to me that the rose was a blessing. Good luck for us. I never knew why. The rose has been there since I was little. My mum was always out in the back garden with the single rose. Blocking it from my grasp. This is mainly because I always go out and try and pick the rose. There was never a day that went by were I never begged mum and dad to let me pick the flower. And like always, they would say the simple word.

"No"

One special day always sticks with me. Dad was feeding Harry whilst mum and I were in the back garden planting seeds for an apple tree.

" Is it almost done, Mummy?" I ask her.

" No sweetheart, we just planted the seeds." My mother replies with a chuckle.

" I know but it's taken forever!"

" If you ask nicely then-"

" Hello! Mrs. Seed may you please make an apple tree appear," I say interrupting my mother. My mother burst into a fit of giggles. I turned around and look back at where Harry and dad were and they're were now outside. Dad was holding Harry in his arms whilst looking at mum. I would never forget the look he gave her. His eyes full of happiness. Love. That's when I knew that's what love likes. I always told myself that when I'm older I want a man to look at me how my father looked at my mother.

" Wake up." a distance voice says. The mature clear voice must belong to a female around my age.

" Wake up," the voice says, this time louder than the first.

" Wake up!"

I open my eyes and right away I am welcomed with rich and playful glistening dark chocolate eyes. I quickly sit up in my bed and bring the covers up my chest.

" Hey it's okay," the voice assured me. I leaned over and turned on the lamp on the side of my bed and then look back in the direction the voice came from. I was automatically taken a back. The girl has beautiful, smooth flawless chocolate skin. Long luscious rich dark brown hair fell a few inches past her shoulders, allowing her collarbones to be seen. Her tall frame moved so she stood at the bottom of my bed at my trunk.

" Can I help you?" I can out, my voice barley a whisper.

" No help needed," the girl spoke.

" You are?" I asked my voice becoming louder. At this point the other girls in my dorm started to wake up, all of them rushing to get dressed.

" Tesha Johnson"

" Right, Tesha. Well, I'm -"

" Iris Potter, I know. Everyone keeps talking about you and, Harry, your brother." She interrupts.

"Of course, what time is it?" I ask as I wipe the sleep out of my eyes. Tesha looks down at her wrist and lifts up her shirt to reveal a small watch. She looks at the time then fixes her gaze back upon me.

" It's currently 7:01 am and twenty-two seconds," she replies.

" Precise I see?"

" Someone has to be, these lot won't wake up otherwise" she says as she gestures to the other girls in the room.

" Come on guys introduce yourselves," Tesha demands. The three other girls surround my bed.

" This is Avery Jackson," Tesha says as she points to a small emerald green eyed brunette girl that I would guess is probably around 54 so just a bit smaller than me. The girl is quite petite with pale skin. Avery sends me a small smile and a quick wave before turning around and making her way to her bed.

" She's a bit shy at first but she'll warm up to you soon," Tesha assures me.

" Alrighty, this is Lillian Scott. Smartest person you know when in class and the absolute dumbness outside of it."

I look over to the girl that's called Lillian. She has wavy long burgundy brown hair, fair olive skin and light hazel eyes. Lillian is a bit larger than the other girls but she has beautiful curves in all the right places which allows her to pull off her uniform perfectly. She looks to be my height so I would say thats around 56.

" Hey, Iris," Lillian's cheerful modest voice spoke. I nodded to her and sent a pearly white smile her way.

" And last but not least, Cherry Blake."

I look towards Cherry she girl is medium height, I presume around 5'5. She has waist- length platinum blonde hair, her face is covered in freckles and she has ocean blue eyes.

" She's known as 'Miss Steal Your Man'" Tesha laughs. Cherry laughs along with Tesha.

" But the thing they don't know is that I'm actually a lesbian," Cherry chuckles.

" Girl you are stunning, literally I see what Tesha means." I tell her.

"I told one guy; this is only because he was stalking me. He tried to get into our common rooms late at night, just so he could see me. He would then offer to walk me to my classes. I had no choice but to tell him. Then, he proceeded to threaten me by saying he was going to tell everyone in our year. So, I kind of used the Obliviate spell."

" Obliviate spell?" I question.

" Right, you missed the first two years. Basically, the Obliviate spell is used to make a certain memory go away. The spell is purposely made for Muggles. For example, if they see a witch or wizard using magic." Cherry explains to me. Before she could tell me more, Lillian and Avery came out of the bathroom.

" Guys come on breakfast is going to start soon," Lillian tells us.

" And she's not ready," Avery points out. Cherry grabs my robe that was still placed on the trunk from the previous night and throws it at me. She then opens my trunk at the end of my bed and starts taking out my school clothes.

" Get dressed!"

I grab the clothes and rush to the bathroom. I look in the mirror and see how messed up my appearance looks. My hair looks like a bird's nest and I'm still in my clothes from the night before. I quickly start to take my clothing off then change into my uniform.

" You almost done!" Lillian shouts as she knocks on the door. I quickly button the last button on my shirt then grab my robe. I unlock the door and reenter the dorm. I look around and notice the other three are not there, it's only Lillian and myself.

"The others have gone down already; they're going to grab out usually spots but they'll save a seat for you." Lillian says as she quickly runs to the stairs. I follow not that behind her.

Once we're in the hallway, I proceed to swiftly put my robe on. Making sure not to bump into any other students as I ran down the long stair cases after Lillian. Once we reach the doors to the Great Hall I stop and try to recollect my breath.

" Not a runner I, see?" I hear an unfamiliar male voice say. The guy has a strong Scottish accent.

I turn around and lock eyes with warm chocolate ones. The guy has short brown hair and is just an inch or two taller than me. He is wearing a red and yellow jumper with the a small 'C' in the corner.

" Yeah, not really? Running down the stairs are a nightmare." I say still trying to recollect my breath.

" Aye I agree with you on that one, it's even harder when the start to change whilst you're running down them, "he says.

" Wood?" Lillian says from behind me.

" Scott," the guy nods as he addresses Lillian. The guy then looks at me and sticks out his hand.

"Names Oliver Wood, captain of Gryffindor's Quidditch team." That explains the small letter on his jumper.

I stick my hand out and shake his hand, "Iris Potter."

His gaze then lands on my cheek, "The one that survived, interesting."

Lillian grabs my other hand and drags me away from Oliver and leads me into the Great Hall. I manage to mouth a quick sorry to Oliver before the doors shut in his face, dropping our strong gaze.
