Chapter 8 - In all tarnation

They dribbled saliva from my new look. The look I assumed was stunning.Could be my permanent style. Silence in this class couldn't have a worse enemy to break it. Cole. None can say I expected more from him. After all habits aren't habits without them being hard to kill. His 24/7 blubbering mouth. As usual had words to aim at me.

"The new girl found her match.A surprise to anybody...Anyone" Astoundingly no réaction was gifted towards the arrogant say. It fooled me. It sure did. And I came to spot the anxious Paul next to Cole. He didn't give an eye contact. A staggering electric firm eye contact went direct to the words inside the book he read.

Later, his fingers tapped in rhythm to the unclear song he hummed. I change my focus. I was frozen in time .No one moved. Every student was stuck in time. And if they moved to prove my suspition. They would move in an awkward manner. In the final hint,a throat was cleared.

Maya on the other hand drowned in confusion. We conversed in a way we could understand. "Ahem!" We turned to the Goliath's wife that intimidated all the teachers including the principle himself. Unfortunately , I wasn't an exception to Mrs.Crudentia's rath. My eyes couldn't help but travel through the six foot lady.Whilst I was meerly a Five foot five inches. In most cases age would automatically earn you respect from the juniors. But for now her power, combined by the rumors I heard from the grape vine.

Her ruling fist which was awaited by many to hit me like a swarling tornado. Clearly I didn't know what I sighned up for. I recall Maya clenching to me .Holding for her dear life.If only she knew that she was a lion relaying on a poor helpless mouse. The killing was aimed at me not her.A time I wished that I switched to the teenager's body.At least so that she'll save me from the tension I was feeling.

As expected.Maya was sent to her sit. I accompanied her down the hallway. Crudentia wore very low heels. That were shorter to the normal ankle breakers but similar to sandles. The sound her shoes made while they touched the tiled floor, ringed in my hear. And found it's way to torturing me. Click!Clack!Click!....Clack! She made sure that the trip to whichever place she took me was as unpleasent as it could get.

She knew it too and behind that cemented face she was smiling. Outside ,she mistakenly snuck a side smile. It lasted a second. Such a shame she caught herself in the act. Her smile was somewhat uniquely beautiful. A humble brag might as well be that I was the first Wisconsin high citizen to witness her smile. Apparently it was in a million to see her lighten up.

Far from that I trembled to the sight of her office door. Her steps followed a certain protocol. A protocol that required her to step two more steps before halting. Her malicious face offered a kind gesture. By using both her hands she pointed to the door ,welcoming my presence. Like entering a place of doom. I took a sit and watched her close the door behind her. It was now her turn to relax in her office chair. The only thing separating us was the awkward air space.

"Miss Day..." She poses while waiting for my response in which I nodded and answered in the most professional way I knew. "How is your day?"Until then it had been a real doozy but a simple, "It's been in all favors"would do. With her British accent she cuts off the small talk and goes to the real deal. "Are you aware Day that your children had been sitting idle all period" I was at loss of words.

For the sake of everything employed ,I accepted to every blame she threw. "Did you really think that no one noticed ? May I remind you that everything in this school must run smoothly under my control. That class over there ...(she stood up) is a real pain to handle. Do you know what actually happened to the teacher before you? What he encountered with those kids? It'll be God sent if he ever considers returning. I am aware that you are a temporary replacement. Do ...your ...job.... well."

In the end I was left trembling at the edge of my sit. I walked down the hall. What did happen to him? In all phobia's discovered. A new one that affected le was 'Wisconsiphobia' A phobia in where I am constantly afraid of the new surprises the school might hold. On the way ,I meet up with Maya and eventually team up to get snucks during the free period. "What was it all about?" She asks.

Of course I explain to her everything. She was indeed the only person who knew the behind the scenes of the whole morning. The more I speak with her,the more I realize he persona. We clicked as two foreigners to the school. The relationship still remained that of teacher -student. Of all the things I needed now was a person to walk with me through the young days of attending Wisconsin high. Changing classes might be a whole journey to fit in again. Besides no teacher would be caught alive in exchanging classes with me.
