Thoughts of being an experiment left Tess's mind as the blurry faces of people in a room began to sharpen. The only people on their feet wore full black with shades and long swords. But they lacked the golden badges of Mid-Sentry officials.
The low murmur she knew too well came mostly from the left side of the room. That was where Petra and her other scientist acquaintances sat surrounded by holograms. The words they spoke were too alien and it sounded like they spoke a different language.
The sounds from the other side of the room were never from chatter. It was usually the occasional yawps from the disabled and the bored tapping on the desks. That was also the side where young Tess sat.
