Lanse stared long at the scab on Tess's neck she told him was her scar. His fixated gaze ended when she brushed her shoulder-length hair back to the front to hide it.
The speck of brown substance on his glove from touching the scab made him sure it was not a scar. It was hiding something. But was he ready to find out? His entire world was on the brink of crumbling down.
Tess moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around his back. She leaned her head against his so her scar was away from his eyes.
"You poor thing," she said. "All that trauma is getting to you. Why would I lie to you? I always keep my word." She moved her lips closer to his ear and spoke low. "Cooper, I care about you. You were right about moving on from my first crush... and I want to move on with you. We'll be together forever. Nothing will separate us, not even death."
