The days flew by much quicker than I thought; it was already Thursday. I have spent over a week in this school, and up to now, I have had the best time I possibly could have. The school day was dull and sad except for a fight Brandon had gotten into with Hockey Captian; I don't know the details. I know it was not a physical fight, and it was apparently not Brandon's fault either. I thought he would be the school's troublemaker, going by his reputation as the bad boy and a player.
Thursday after school, I spent most of my time with Maria in the kitchen as she was preparing for tonight's dinner. My parents would come home from a trip tonight, so everything had to be perfect. I was even making my famous chocolate cake today. Maria was very busy but made sure that she took the time out of her day to spend some time with me in her limited free time today.
After my cake was almost made, I went to my room to freshen up and maybe get some sketching before my parents returned. After about an hour, someone came into my room and sat on my bed, waiting for me to look up. After completing the basic sketch, I looked up to see Maria. Something was not right, I could tell from her face.
Maria slowly looked up and said: "Lexi, I have some news you will not like about your parents." This scared me, did something happens to them on their way? I looked at her and threatened them, "They cannot make it home. It seems they were called again for some other work; I am so sorry, sweetheart." Hearing what Maria just made me angry, but I was not surprised. It always seemed like they cared more about their work than I did. I nodded my head and got up to leave my room. "Maria, I am going to go for a ride. I will be back, don't worry." I informed Maria and left the house with my keys. I went into the garage, got on my bike, and left, I had no idea where I was going, but I had to leave now. Bike riding has always been my escape from reality. Even after Chris and Drake were in Greenwood High, bike riding was my only escape. I would always go out for a long ride, and all would be settled in my mind for me.
Today was different; as I was going, I saw a group of people getting ready for a bike race; I thought I would join and try it. It would be a different experience, and I would get distracted from what happened with my parents.
I walked over to some guy with my helmet still on, asking if I could join. He nodded and pointed to the race track, where someone was already waiting for an opponent. I asked him for information about my opponent. He replied, "He is the only unbeaten racer in our group. He also won over people from other groups in official rases. Also, he hates a false play."
I nodded my head. "What is your name? I need to announce you." not wanting to give the actual name, I said: "Alex, you can announce me as Alex." "Did you ever race before this?" "Nope, this is my first race."
After giving him all the information, I went to the track. Just as I reached the trail, he introduced me to the mic. I looked to my right giving my opponent a nod and got ready for the race. I wanted to just enjoy this race. Then we took off.
Without a surprise, he won again. He sure was unbeatable, but this was my first race. I will show him next time. I walked over to Mike, "Hey Mike, when is the meet-up for races?" "We meet every day for rases, you wanna join? Take this if you want to," He said and passed me a card with my name. Before leaving, I looked at my opponent, 'Shoot, that is Brandon.'
