Chereads / Wrath Of The Fallen / Chapter 18 - Chapter 17

Chapter 18 - Chapter 17

SOMEWHERE IN LONDON.

The air was fresh and moist, yet the heat from the sun made the summer days look more different than the usual. Who would've thought that in this heat, the traffic congestion would be this bad along the suspension bridge?

"What's taking so long, Nick?" asked a woman who sat in the back seat of a Mercedes Benz. She had on her a black mafia jacket long enough to reach the calf of her legs, and held a newspaper over her face making her facial features unseen by anyone asides her blonde hair.

"I'm not sure ma'am, I guess the traffic lights are faulty or so, can't doubt the possibility of the heat". Answered Nick.

She gave a mild chuckles and continued, "So who's the cause of this, the heat, the devil, or God?" she asked.

At this moment, Nick felt very confused and looked at the mirror of the car, and just beneath her wrist was the tattoo of a dragon. He looked sternly at it and suspected maybe the blonde haired lady was harmful, and so he gulped down his saliva and answered in a low tune shivering in his spirit.

"I don't know ma'am, I guess the universe has its way of doing stuff". he replied.

"The universe Huh, so tell me, to what measure do you fear that I would hurt you. Just because you saw a tattoo doesn't literally mean I'm harmful".

"Yes, ma'am but I don't necessarily think that your questions are easy for me to answer".

"Hey, watch it Nick, if you need to know, I sold my soul a very long time ago, and I'm guessing that you weren't born by then."

"Excuse me, how old are you, ma'am?"

"Almost two centuries Nick".

"You've got to be kidding me. But you look so young, more like you're in your late twenties ".

"Of course Nick, that's what people say. I'm already used to such flatteries".

"So who did you sell your soul to, ma'am?".

"Quick advice, if you ever want to sell your soul and loose all earthly pleasures, God is the best. But if want to leave in hell, believe me, the whole world will be yours when your soul is for the devil".

"Hmmm!!" Nick uttered. For a moment, the car was silent and Nick was the more befuddled than ever. Eventually, the traffic congestion didn't last for long as car horns sounded loudly having and the long queue of cars moved swiftly.

The door soon opened and she walked into her apartment, still having the newspaper covering her facial features as she flipped a page. Her baggage arrived into her room by a dark skinned average and good looking guy. He made sure he had her baggage kept nicely and just when he was about to take his leave, she uttered.

"Can you hold on a bit?" she asked.

"I'm actually kinda busy madam but if I have time I could meet with you later".

"Oh you actually have plenty of time my dear man, all I need is just an answer".

"And what do you possibly want to know?".

"Where I can get the very best of vintage jewelries".

"I really wish I could help, I'm sorry, but I can get to know your name right, I mean all through you've been looking at that newspaper of yours, can't I get to see the pretty face talking to me?". He said in a chivalrous manner.

She flipped another page of the newspaper and kept it on her thighs before stretching forth her right hand towards him as he approached her in introduction.

"I'm Ryoko, Ryoko Karrie". She said shaking his hand leaving him with a flirtatious smile, "And trust me, there's more I need to know than vintage jewelries".

"Okay then, what else do you need to know?"

"I need to know where I can find my daughter". She concluded smiling back at him although his smile already died at the statement she made.

"Then I'll be most honoured to help you Mrs. Ryoko". He added smiling back at her in return, but hers had a sinister involved.

"Very well my good man, the dragons don't lie, I'll find her real soon".

***

It was 9:00 am in the morning back at the breakfast shop and the shop was filled with people, some in the queue waiting for someone to attend to them and others just sitting on the chairs looking at the rough table in front of them, and those with friends talked about only God knows what. The shop began to get a bit rowdy and some customers began to loose their patience.

"For the love of God Angie, where is Davis?" asked Gaby while walking around his office.

"I told you he said he'll be here any minute, I warned you but you didn't listen".

"You needed help" Gaby protested.

"But I never asked for it, now look at the consequence. You hired a psychopath in place of a helping hand".

"Sooner or later, you'll realize that that man has a purpose".

"I appreciate the fact that you think highly of him because the sooner he dies, the better".

Seconds after she spoke, Lyon walked into the shop with his apron on him and went straight to Gaby's office.

"I'm really sorry for wasting your time, I was caught up in a little something" he pleaded

"I'm not surprise" Scoffed Angelica walking out of the office.

"Lyon, you have to take this seriously, I'm tired with you messing around on the job like that".

"Yeah, I know it's pretty bad but I won't promise that this won't happen again because it just might in the future".

"Please, suit yourself and have fun" Gaby said while watching me walk out of the office.

I stood behind the counter and observed how she attended to people. To me, it looked strange but to her, it was strange the way I looked at her.

"What's wrong, your eyes don't seem to move along with your mind?" she asked.

"I don't understand why you have to make this too easy, I mean you just ask for orders and then boom, you either offer a coffee or the waiters do the rest of the job".

"Can you just try not to focus on unnecessary things but focus more on the importance ones? That'll go a long way I promise". she begged.

I raised up my hands surrendering to her request, but that was when I noticed.

"You finally wore your necklace today. That's great".

"I don't need any compliments Davis, especially not one from you", she uttered making her way to the coffee maker.

"I never gave any compliments, unless you were expecting one". I uttered.

She looked at me in a way that made me understand that she said I wasn't smart enough which followed with a roll of the eyes as she handed over the cup of coffee to a customer.

"Next please" she said looking at me as I walked backwards to the desktop computer beside.

"I think I'm in the mood for some little excitement". Said a lady who wore a hat and a long mafia jacket leaving only her lips noticeable and other parts of her face hidden from her view.

"I'm sorry, what did you say again?". asked Angie

And before Angelica could utter another word, she felt a hand grabbing a hold of her shirt and almost immediately, she was flung towards the glass door which shattered and left everyone panicking.

The lady walked in the hat towards her and raised her up by the chest and threw her back to the counter.

"Hey", I called out noticing how tensed the whole place was with fear, "Leave her alone".

And just like that, she rendered a deaf ear to me and kept on walking towards Angelica.

"Davis I'm hurt", she cried out, "I think I broke a rib". she said.

With no hesitation, I jumped over the counter and risked a punch at her. I hit her so hard that she almost fell to the ground.

"Not bad, Lyon. You can punch, but now, it's time for us to fly", she said to me and before I noticed, I was up in the air breaking through both the ceiling and rooftop of the shop.

"Next time, you have to learn to stay in your lane", she uttered while strangling my neck watching me struggle for my freedom. I barely realized that the color of my eyes changed, and from then, I gained possession of the air freeing myself from her hands.

"I guess there won't be any next time". I uttered giving her a head butt which sent her falling straight to the ground. I followed her down and risked three pucnches which to me I thought was enough to knock her out, but after the third, she layed helpless and I thought I won. But what happened next surprised me the more.

She smiled and looked at me, and her eyes covered entirely of red suddenly made me remember what had happened in the warehouse, and before I could make my way out, I was lasered away from the middle of the road, back into the coffee shop.

Just at the moment, Gaby came out and saw the mess that was caused. Obviously he want happy about it, but before his thoughts could get any much worse, he looked outside and to me I thought he saw the wreckage in middle of the road which was enough to explain that it wasn't my fault.

"What happened"? he asked

I turned and groaned wincing in pain before answering.

"She did it".

"Who and where is the she?" he asked for more clarification.

"She's outside" I replied.

"I'm afraid there's no-one anywhere". he uttered.

And then I witnessed the most shocking thing that has ever happened to me in my whole life. The whole shop was intact and people saw me roll on the floor wincing though I looked stupid.

"She was here, the whole place was a mess. She broke Angie's rib and lasered me back to this shop. I promise I wasn't hallucinating". I said in defense.

" Chin up Davis", uttered Gaby, "You're fired".

I couldn't believe my ears, I got fired on my first day of work and I was so much embarrassed. Probably the most embarrassing experience of my life. I swallowed everything in and stood up right though I felt a sharp pain beside my rib and a slight ache in my head. I turned towards Angelica removing my apron of which I kept it in front of her and headed towards my exit. And as if the day couldn't get any worse, I walked along the pavement of the road in the heat of the sun looking so pale and gloomy. I stopped at a nearby bench and looked across the road which had a side view of the shop from a far distance, just then did I notice a woman leaning against the street light in a black colored mafia jacket. She held an umbrella over her head and took a sip from the coffee cup she held. It was her, and just immediately a bus passed by her direction, she vanished leaving the streetlight lonely once more. I couldn't let anyone think I'm as crazy as hell, I needed to prove myself right, and at this, I walked off.
